Dorothy sank into thought, while Zero remained silent and watched her quietly.
"Zero, did you know Jonas has obtained the Black Ring and is already one of the Zerg's people?"
"Searching records. The database contains no record of Jonas siding with the Zerg. Adding this information. Updating kill list to priority kill list. Rank one."
Data flashed rapidly through Zero's eyes as she updated her database.
Jonas's true identity was even worse than she had thought.
He had gone from a thief to a traitor in an instant. Worse, he had already used the Forerunner Technology Tree to grow powerful, making him difficult to kill now.
"Then, Zero, it's time to follow the code in your database."
"Understood."
Green streams of data flickered in Zero's eyes.
Her orders were to obey the Predecessor Civilization and restore it. The Predecessor Civilization now met the criteria for destruction, and the only consciousness from that civilization she had encountered in all these years was the one standing before her. Naturally, she had to obey.
Her sole master now was Dorothy.
Helping Dorothy restore the Predecessor Civilization was her only mission.
Zero's programming was extremely rigorous. She felt neither hesitation nor inner conflict. Her logic was clear, her instructions explicit. Within her world of code, Dorothy was now her master, and she would do everything in her power to help Dorothy fulfill her mission and restore the glory of the Predecessor Civilization.
This was the reason she had survived from the moment of her creation until now.
