| Species/Race | Human 146 |
| Gender | Male 55 |
| Occupation/Role | First-year university student; survival-game player; photography enthusiast 55 58 |
| Status | Alive following the clearance of the “Werewolf” instance; eliminated during that game’s night phase 148 149 |
| First Appearance | Chapter 55, “Eerie Shadow Amusement Park” instance 55 |
Background / History
Cheng Yangze has just started university when he joins the “Eerie Shadow Amusement Park” instance. He introduces himself as a photography enthusiast who always carries a camera. He already has experience surviving instances, remarking that those he previously entered claimed at least two players at every stage 55 58.
His childhood friend died in the amusement-park instance and became one of its wax figures. Recognizing the likeness makes the museum’s danger personal to him. Even after the group changes the park’s history and clears the instance, he continues grieving for his friend 68 76.
Personality
Cheng Yangze is curious, excitable, and friendly, but openly frightened by heights and dangerous rides. His awkward honesty provides comic relief: when volunteering to sit alone on the roller coaster, he explains that his screaming might spray saliva onto a seatmate 56 58 61.
His fear does not prevent him from helping others. He shields Zhou Zi from Ge Yue’s accusations, participates in Ke Yue’s rescue, and tries to free Zhou Zi’s trapped hair while high above the ground. On a later attempt, he deliberately faces the Drop Tower again to save her and document its defect 55 64 67 71.
He is especially angered by preventable harm and attempts to silence victims. Rather than merely keeping Zhou Zi off a dangerous ride, he insists that its underlying defect must be exposed before another visitor is injured. However, accusations against his own honesty can make him defensive, as shown by his prolonged dispute with Xuan Shuhui over the Witch role 71 73 144 146.
Abilities & Skills
Photography and Evidence Gathering
Cheng Yangze uses photography both to investigate supernatural threats and to preserve evidence of ordinary wrongdoing 56 71 72.
- Photographs the carousel in hopes that the image will reveal hidden dangers. Ghostly children appear in the photograph after he puts it away; he does not initially notice the change 56.
- Uses a miniature camera to document Zhou Zi’s hair caught in the Drop Tower machinery 71 72.
- Presents those photographs to park staff, convincing one employee to take the safety hazard seriously 72.
- Offers Ge Yue and Ke Yue a free couple’s photograph, interrupting their argument and helping them become affectionate again 76.
Observation and Survival Instincts
He notices dangerous patterns and changes in his companions, although he does not always understand their causes 57 59 64 66.
- Stops Ge Yue from removing Ke Yue’s carousel ghost, suspecting that each rider must deal with their own entity 57.
- Recognizes that his accelerating hourglass may indicate distorted instance time. He closes his eyes and mouth immediately, then waits for both the timer and the park announcement before leaving the Ferris wheel 59.
- Notices Ke Yue’s abrupt change from frightened to hollow and unresponsive after her underwater rescue 64 65.
- Questions Zhou Zi’s familiarity with attractions she supposedly has never visited 66.
- Detects a breeze behind a filing cabinet and finds a concealed opening in the museum’s records room 68.
Rescue and Practical Action
- Helps Zhou Zi, Qu Yan, and Ge Yue pull Ke Yue out of the black seawater before a monster reaches her 64.
- Cuts Zhou Zi’s trapped hair free with scissors during the Drop Tower’s descent, preventing her fatal injury 71.
- Helps organize the exposure of the park’s safety failures and contributes funds toward the group’s final fire-starting tool 73 74.
Equipment / Items
- DSLR camera — Regularly carried against his chest; used during the amusement-park investigation and to photograph Ge Yue and Ke Yue 55 76.
- Miniature camera — An ultrathin camera about the size of a ping-pong ball, used to record the Drop Tower defect 71.
- Instance-calibrated hourglass — Supplied by Jiang Cong for the Ferris wheel; adjusts to the instance’s passage of time 59.
- Camera exchange voucher — A rare voucher from Jiang Cong for a camera Cheng Yangze has long wanted. He clings to it during the roller-coaster attack and thinks of it to strengthen his resolve on the High-Altitude Swing 61 62 66.
- Scissors — Purchased from the Points Shop in preparation for rescuing Zhou Zi 71.
- Powerful fire-starting tool — Purchased jointly with Qu Yan for Che Quan’s final plan against the park 74.
- Soul Crystal — Given to him by Che Quan after the amusement-park clearance, when Cheng Yangze is distressed by the cost of redeeming a loved one’s soul 77.
Relationships
- Che Quan — Trusted teammate whom he addresses as “boss.” Cheng Yangze relies on his deductions, receives a Soul Crystal from him, and is delighted when they reunite in “Werewolf” 68 70 77 143.
- Jiang Cong — Teammate who supplies his hourglass and coveted camera voucher. Jiang Cong also secretly summons a ghost behind him to force him across a glass walkway 58 59 61.
- Zhou Zi — Friendly companion with whom he plans a spicy-hot-pot outing and a photography session. He grieves when she reveals herself as a park ghost, then saves her during a return to the park’s past and works with her to expose its management 67 71 73.
- Qu Yan — Cooperative teammate who saves him from an attacking wax figure. They investigate the park’s records and pool their funds for the final plan 68 69 74.
- Ge Yue and Ke Yue — Companions he helps during the carousel and underwater-tunnel crises. After their tragic future is averted, he photographs them together 57 64 76.
- Childhood friend — An unnamed friend whose wax likeness he discovers in the museum; their loss remains painful after his escape 68 76.
- Xuan Shuhui — Fellow “Werewolf” participant and rival Witch claimant. Their mutual accusations arise amid confusion about the instance’s rules 144 146 147.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Eerie Shadow Amusement Park
- Early attractions: Enters the hidden carousel room first, investigates with his camera, and identifies a possible restriction on helping another rider. On the roller coaster, a spider Wraith binds his limbs and leaves him dangling from his seat by a strand of silk 56 57 62.
- Companions’ hidden identities: Tries unsuccessfully to free Zhou Zi’s hair before she reenacts her death on the Drop Tower. He subsequently learns that Zhou Zi, Ge Yue, and Ke Yue are original park ghosts rather than players 67 69.
- Museum investigation: Recognizes his childhood friend among the wax figures, survives an attack with Qu Yan’s help, and examines reports documenting equipment and fire-safety failures 68 69.
- Rescue and public exposure: During a return to the park’s past, saves Zhou Zi and photographs the ride defect. He shares the archive evidence with her, enabling a coordinated newspaper exposé 71 72 73.
- Failed solution: The group returns to the archive despite the reporting campaign. A notebook reveals that park operators had Zhou Zi killed after she exposed them 73 74.
- Final attempt: Helps fund the tool used in Che Quan’s plan. The park closes before opening, its backers face financial ruin, and the site becomes a public ecological park. Cheng Yangze encounters the now-safe Ge Yue and Ke Yue before the system announces clearance 74 76.
Werewolf
- Reunion: Returns as Player 6 and enthusiastically greets Che Quan without speaking out of turn 143.
- Witch dispute: Insists that his card is the Witch while Xuan Shuhui makes the same claim. He later reports using the antidote to save himself from a Werewolf attack 144 146.
- Elimination: Che Quan keeps him from being voted out, then instructs him and Xuan Shuhui to poison each other. Both are announced dead the following morning and cannot give last words 147 148.
- Clearance: The players ultimately win when Che Quan uses the Hunter skill to eliminate Ning Dantong, whose body had been controlled by an NPC throughout the round 149.

Notable Quotes
“The problem is with the Drop Tower itself. Even if Zhou Zi doesn't get hurt today, someone else might. To solve this once and for all, we have to make everyone realize how serious it is.” 71
Trivia
- He ignores livestream comments and does not follow instance streams or ranking news, so Ge Yue has to explain Che Quan and Jiang Cong’s reputations to him 58.
- His claim that his photography ranks among the country’s best is not verified by the narration; his persuasive chatter is explicitly remarked upon instead 76.
