Power Progression
Events are ordered by their place in Haruka’s life; several developments are explained retrospectively.
| Stage / Realm / Level | Chapter | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Speed technique: 80% and 92% release | 2 | Reveals explosive speed against Gojo. At 92%, escapes collapsing rubble and brings a cursed tool within millimeters of Gojo’s eye. |
| Speed technique: 96% release | 3 | Gets behind Gojo while already exhausted, but requires Sukuna’s rescue and subsequently sleeps for nine days. |
| Special Grade sorcerer — provisional | 3 | Gojo secures his enrollment and rank based on the combination of his technique and Heaven-Sent Binding Vow. Gojo must execute him if he defects. |

| Living cursed tool / cursed object | 17 18 | Swallows and modifies the Prison Realm, extracts his own soul, and leaves his body operating on cursed energy. Uses his domain to target all cursed spirits in Japan. |
| Reconstitution as a child | 22 | After his body’s destruction, his cursed-object concept persists. Yuji’s energy touching a Prison Realm fragment produces a small, sleeping Haruka. |
Background / History
Haruka died in his previous life after being pushed into traffic. A self-described god offered him reincarnation, and he requested only an easy, carefree life. He later recalls being valued primarily for studying and satisfying adults’ expectations, a pressure he refuses to repeat in his second life 1 4.
Reborn as Yuji Itadori’s younger twin, Haruka grew up relying on Yuji and their grandfather. Their encouragement extended to even his smallest efforts, giving him the unconditional care he had wanted. He eventually describes Yuji’s steady affection as the reason this world feels like home 1 4 9.
Before dying, their grandfather told Yuji to save people with his strength and Haruka to save people with his kindness. Haruka doubts that he possesses that kindness, but chooses to follow Yuji into sorcerer society rather than face losing his remaining family 1 3.
Appearance
Haruka has fluffy pink hair and sleepy, copper-red eyes, closely resembling Yuji but with a smaller, lighter build 3 13 20.
- Hair: Long bangs partly conceal his eyes; his pink hair is described as slightly darker than Yuji’s during their Shibuya fight 3 18.
- Build and posture: Shorter than Yuji, exceptionally light, and often slightly hunched; Yuji and Gojo frequently carry him 7 13 18.
- Voice: Relatively high for his age, described as a mezzo-soprano 15.
- Right eye: Destroyed by the Mount Akagi god’s final attack. He wears bandages and refuses healing to preserve the memory of Kai’s last moments 10 12.
- Sukuna manifestations: Sukuna’s eyes, mouth, and later an arm can emerge from his body. A crimson eye beneath his injured right eye is associated with their contract 3 13 15.
- Cursed-object form: Covered in curse markings and surrounded by ominous cursed energy after incorporating the Prison Realm 17 18.
- Returned form: Reappears as a small, sleepy child after his death 22.
Personality
Haruka is lethargic, blunt, and resistant to unnecessary effort. His sleepiness is partly supernatural rather than simply habitual laziness, but he also genuinely enjoys being carried, pampered, and left to rest. He can accept physical affection while still keeping people emotionally distant 3 6 8.
His attachment to Yuji overrides his wish for an undemanding life. Haruka refuses to accept Yuji’s execution even when Yuji himself is willing to submit, and he rejects appeals to law or “world peace” that demand sacrificing his family. Unlike Yuji, he sees no obligation to be gentle toward people trying to kill them 3 12 15.
Despite calling himself unkind, he reassures Kai that friendship does not require strength, protects Junpei because he matters to Yuji, and repeatedly risks himself for others. He also prefers to bear blame alone rather than draw Yuji into his confrontations 3 7 9.
Loss exposes an intensely self-punishing side. Haruka blames his lethargy for his inability to protect loved ones, condemns himself for wanting relief from grief, and forces himself to remain alert after Kai’s death. His eventual willingness to rest with Gojo and return to his family contrasts with his earlier impulse to erase himself or withdraw from the world 6 7 12 22.
Abilities & Skills
Speed-Conversion Cursed Technique
Haruka converts cursed energy into speed, regulating its output through spoken release percentages 2 3.
- High-speed movement: Can move too quickly for Gojo to see at 92% release. He evades Hollow Purple by changing direction upward, then circling behind Gojo 5.
- Efficient impact: His relaxed body produces little unnecessary tension, allowing the speed generated by his cursed energy to translate directly into force 3.
- Haze Strike: Directs speed-converted energy into attacks that gouge targets. A broader application devastates vegetation around the Goodwill Event battlefield 6 13.
- Low detectable presence: Normally releases so little cursed energy that Jujutsu High fails to discover him for sixteen years. He can approach groups of sorcerers without being noticed 3 12.
- Limits: His body remains fragile, and prolonged combat exhausts him. Gojo exploits a brief emotional lapse to land a damaging kick 2 3.
Heavenly Restriction: Languor
Also described as a Heaven-Sent Binding Vow, Languor suppresses Haruka’s motivation and stamina while granting substantial cursed energy 3 7.
- His cursed energy grows stronger as his will to act weakens; wishing to do nothing can empower him more than actively wanting to save someone 7.
- The restriction’s bodily relaxation complements his speed technique by eliminating wasted effort 3.
- Its emotional cost is severe: at his most apathetic, he becomes indifferent to his own survival and seeks refuge from painful relationships 7 10.
- Sukuna removes its operation by replacing Haruka’s original cursed energy with his own. Haruka uses White Butterfly to drain himself before receiving that replacement 16.
Domain Expansion: Clear Mirror, Still Water
The domain replaces its surroundings with an expansive sky reflected in transparent water, resembling the Salar de Uyuni landscape Haruka and Yuji promised to visit 5 7 10.
- Speed becomes weaponry: Sound, wind, cursed energy, heartbeats, and light can all be converted into attacks within the domain 7.
- Continuous light attacks: Haruka describes falling light as blades that attack living things until the domain is released 7.
- Barrier disruption: Encroaches on Junpei’s school by destroying its Curtain and perforates Mahito’s domain until it collapses 7.
- Large-scale reach: His expansion affects the entire Kanto region. He spreads it outward to locate Yuji after hearing his call 8 10.
- Exorcism: Erases the Mount Akagi god and later destroys Hanami completely 10 13.
- Altered manifestation: After incorporating the Prison Realm, its water reflects a crimson sky and countless red eyes, becoming the means of drawing curses into the modified seal 17.
- Cost: Repeated use leaves Haruka severely exhausted or unconscious 7 8 13.
Brotherhood Binding Vow
Haruka makes a binding vow of brotherhood with Sukuna, establishing a connection that extends beyond Sukuna’s residence in Yuji 3.
- Sukuna can speak through Haruka’s body and manifest body parts to threaten opponents 3 15.
- The vow provides the channel through which Sukuna transfers cursed energy to Haruka 16.
- Sukuna uses their bond to protect and comfort him, but also exploits it in plans to torment or take over Yuji 3 5 18.
- At their final parting, Haruka gives Sukuna the accumulated divinity so that he can become human and have a future 21.
Prison Realm Modification and Soul Persistence
Haruka turns himself into a cursed object after swallowing the Prison Realm and altering it from within 17 18.
- Changes the seal to target cursed-energy users without restriction, release restraints on their energy and techniques, and force captives to fight until only the victor can escape 17.
- Converts it into “cursed gu” and declares all cursed spirits in Japan its targets 17.
- Extracts his soul, leaving his body driven by Sukuna’s cursed energy; this allows Sukuna to seize control 18.
- Retains enough influence to redirect Sukuna’s blade into his own body and block attacks on Yuji. A phantom of Haruka appears wielding the Inverted Spear of Heaven 19 20.
- His concept survives bodily destruction: the narrative states that the cursed object called “Haruka Itadori” will be born alongside curses arising again in Japan 22.
Combat and Practical Skills
- Dual-blade fighting: Conceals a second weapon behind a visible strike, forcing Gojo to respond to successive attacks 1 2.
- Rapid weapon adaptation: Understands the Inverted Spear of Heaven almost immediately after stealing it 5.
- Tactical targeting: Disables weapons, joints, and dominant hands to incapacitate Kyoto opponents 13.
- Tree climbing: Skilled at climbing trees despite being clumsy at sports; uses high branches as hiding places for naps 13.
- Cooking and origami: Prepares leftover-rice-and-instant-noodle porridge and folds detailed paper animals from snack wrappers 7 15.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Black Butterfly — One of a paired set of cursed tools found years before his first battle. Associated with absorbing his soul; Sukuna later uses it while controlling Haruka’s body 1 16 18 19.
- White Butterfly — Absorbs cursed energy. Haruka uses it to drain his original energy, and Yuji later uses it against Sukuna 16 19.
- Inverted Spear of Heaven — Stolen from Jujutsu High’s armory; forcibly nullifies cursed techniques. Allows Haruka to bypass Limitless, cut through Mahito’s technique, and neutralize Mechamaru’s cannon attack 5 7 13.
- Prison Realm — Swallowed and incorporated into his cursed-object body. Its fragments later provide the medium for his return 17 22.
- Kai’s phone — Slipped into his hood during Kai’s farewell embrace. Contains a final message and footage of their friendship; Haruka treasures it as the remaining proof of Kai’s existence 10 11.
- Right-eye bandages — Cover the injury he deliberately keeps as a memorial to Kai 12.
- Hedgehog mug — His personal mug, used for the green tea Gojo serves him 15.
Relationships
- Yuji Itadori — Older twin, lifelong caretaker, and “other half.” Their dependence is mutual: Haruka protects Yuji through overwhelming force, while Yuji restrains his violence and helps him face grief. Even their Shibuya fight does not extinguish Haruka’s instinct to shield him 1 7 13 18 19.
- Ryomen Sukuna — Sworn older brother, source of power, and eventual family member. Sukuna alternates genuine favor with manipulation; Haruka ultimately interprets his protection as kindness and sacrifices himself to give him a human future 3 6 16 18 21.
- Satoru Gojo — Teacher and protector whose interventions initially deepen Haruka’s distrust. Gojo seals his memories and suppresses reminders of Kai, but later supports his mourning, offers him a refuge, and helps bring him home 5 8 11 12 22.
- Kai Sagami — First true friend and fellow transmigrator. Their four weeks together give both boys companionship; Kai’s death protecting Haruka becomes the central source of his guilt and radicalization 8 9 10 11.
- Grandfather — Loving guardian whose final instruction to save people with kindness guides Haruka. Appears with Kai after Haruka’s death and encourages him to return to the living 1 3 22.
- Megumi Fushiguro — Classmate who challenges Gojo’s memory seal and commits to protecting Haruka. His own attachment to Tsumiki informs his defense of the twins’ bond 6.
- Nobara Kugisaki — Protective classmate who condemns Gojo’s treatment of Haruka and later argues for capturing him rather than killing him 6 16.
- Junpei Yoshino — Yuji’s friend whom Haruka saves from Mahito. Haruka later entrusts Junpei with the sleeping Yuji’s safety before leaving for his final confrontation 7 12 21.
- Noritoshi Kamo — Hostile Kyoto sorcerer who comes to regard Haruka as the more dangerous twin. Haruka approaches him for information about Kai, followed by a warning from Sukuna 12 15.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Protecting Yuji and Entering Jujutsu High
After their grandfather’s death, Haruka reaches Yuji’s damaged school with two cursed tools and attacks the apparently possessed Yuji. When execution is proposed, he shields his brother and fights Gojo rather than surrender him. Sukuna’s rescue and the revelation of their brotherhood vow force the authorities to reconsider, allowing Gojo to secure provisional Special Grade enrollment 1 2 3.
Yuji’s Reported Death and the Memory Seal
News that Yuji died on a special-grade mission drives Haruka to confront Gojo. He steals the Inverted Spear of Heaven, wounds Gojo through Limitless, and stabs his heart after evading Hollow Purple. Gojo survives through healing, subdues him with Unlimited Void, and seals his memories of Yuji 4 5.
Reminders of Yuji’s everyday care weaken the separation. A hostile woman’s disclosure restores Haruka’s memories, provoking another attack before Gojo stops him. Yuji’s appearance alive turns his fury into an openly emotional reunion 6.
Kai’s Friendship and the Mount Akagi Trap
On a separate mission, Haruka meets Kai, who recognizes him as another transmigrator. Their companionship develops through shared food, sightseeing, conversations about family, and promises for the future 8 9.
At Mount Akagi, locals poison and ambush them as offerings to their summoned deity. Kai sacrifices his body and life through the Futsu-no-Mitama Sword to protect Haruka. Haruka awakens his domain, destroys the enemies, loses his right eye, and concludes that the assignment was arranged to kill him 9 10.
He then answers Yuji’s distant call, saves Junpei, and defeats Mahito. Afterward, he proposes remaining forever inside his domain; Yuji persuades him to keep living with painful memories instead. Kai’s recording later allows Haruka to hear his friend’s affection and unfinished wishes while Gojo holds him through his grief 7 11.
Goodwill Event and Defection
Haruka interrupts the Kyoto students’ attempt to kill Yuji, incapacitating several opponents while obeying Yuji’s demand not to kill them. He subsequently destroys Hanami, but refuses to apologize to students who had intended to murder his brother 12 13 14 15.
His disappearance is followed by the higher-ups’ deaths and an official execution-on-sight order. Sukuna reveals that Haruka secretly fed additional fingers to the sleeping Yuji as payment for removing Languor. Yuji refuses to abandon him and takes responsibility for stopping him 16.
Shibuya and the Brothers’ Confrontation
Haruka appears as Gojo is sealed, consumes the Prison Realm, and turns the enemy’s tool into a trap for cursed spirits throughout Japan 16 17.
He tells Yuji that jujutsu has taken his ordinary life and friends, and declares his intention to destroy its world. Their disagreement becomes a brutal fight. Sukuna takes over Haruka’s soul-extracted body at the apparent moment of reconciliation, but Haruka’s lingering presence repeatedly prevents him from killing Yuji 18 19 20.
Sacrifice and Homecoming
After briefly reuniting with Yuji, Haruka entrusts him to Junpei. He confronts the being responsible for his reincarnation, which intended to seize the divinity formed from the curses he had absorbed. Haruka defeats it by pulling it onto train tracks with him, echoing his first death 21.
He gives the divinity to Sukuna and asks to graduate with his brothers. His sacrifice erases Japan’s curses and releases Gojo. Sukuna later accepts Haruka’s diploma beside his memorial photograph 21.
After encountering Grandpa and Kai in a peaceful afterlife, Haruka chooses to return. A Prison Realm fragment responds to Yuji’s cursed energy and produces his childlike form. The epilogue ends with Haruka, Yuji, Sukuna, and Gojo resting together beneath a blanket 22.
Extra-Chapter Depictions
- Celebrity Ranking alternate setting: Haruka is nineteen and the youngest member of the rookie idol group 3tigers. Yuji and Sukuna are the older twins, with Haruka one year younger—a different family arrangement from the main story 23.
- Taste-test competence: Identifies Yuji’s shrimp shumai by distinguishing it from familiar imitation-crab and frozen-shrimp dishes. Later correctly chooses dance option B with Sukuna and recognizes Geto as the dancer who misled Gojo 24 26.
- Four-year-old transformation: A cursed spirit’s technique shrinks his body while leaving his present-day mind intact. He knowingly uses the situation to seek pampering from Gojo and his brothers 24.
- Kai-survival beach scenario: After both survive a dangerous mission, Haruka becomes jealous when Kai talks with Junpei. Kai retrieves him from the sea using a cursed-tool safety leash and reveals that he was arranging to share a hotel room with Haruka 25 26.
