Background / History

Akin served Don Krieg with absolute loyalty, repaying a life debt even when Krieg’s methods troubled him. During the Krieg Pirates’ attempt to infiltrate Raven Port under Marine disguises, he posed as a Navy Lieutenant Commander and attempted to expose Gawain and Kuro’s own cover. His identity was exposed when Kuro intercepted his attack on Gawain. 19 20

During Krieg’s assault on Raven Port, Akin’s companion Pal suffered fatal burns. Although Pal warned him that Krieg treated companions as disposable tools, Akin chose to continue the operation and “correct” his captain’s mistake rather than betray him. Krieg later repaid that loyalty by using Akin as a shield while escaping from Gawain. 26 30

Gawain rescued and nursed Akin back to health, then offered him a place as combat captain. Moved by Gawain’s understanding and the prospect of a crew founded on mutual loyalty, Akin joined the Gawain Pirates. 38

Personality

Akin’s defining quality is his loyalty. He initially remains devoted to Krieg because of a debt of life, even after being betrayed and abandoned. Once Gawain saves him, that loyalty shifts completely: Akin considers Gawain the captain who gave him a new life, trusted him, and gave him comrades worthy of entrusting with his back. 19 30 334

He is intensely disciplined and refuses to accept innate limits. Rather than immediately consume the Bones-Bones Fruit when offered it, he chooses to stake his life on becoming stronger through his own will; this conviction raises his potential to Silver Rank. 121
