Tang San stood rooted to the spot as Xiao Wu's words struck him like a bolt of lightning. For a moment, he had no idea what to say.
"Xiao Wu, you don't understand at all... I'm doing this for your own good!"
Hearing Tang San remain so stubbornly deluded, Xiao Wu was so angry she laughed.
"For my own good? Then hurry up and get lost!"
As soon as she finished speaking, Su Bai reached out to stop her, a smile on his face.
"Didn't you want to duel me? Come on, then. I'll fight you with one hand!"
Even a clay figure had a spark of temper, let alone Su Bai.
Ever since transmigrating here, he had quietly focused on cultivating and had hardly ever gone out of his way to provoke anyone.
Yet Yu Xiaogang, that self-important fool, had insisted on telling Su Bai how to develop his martial soul. Fine, he could put up with that.
But even after Su Bai had outwardly gone along with him, Yu Xiaogang had dragged him into a duel with Tang San.
And after Su Bai won, those two still refused to let it go. They had even come to resent him over it.
Who could stomach that?
Back at Nuoding Academy, he would have struck hard long ago if he hadn't feared that beating Tang San too badly would bring out Haozi, that bastard who had no respect for fair play.
There was no helping it. Su Bai had already bound Ah Yin with a contract by then. If Tang Hao discovered that, he would be facing certain death, so he had to be careful.
Once he reached Suotuo City, however, Su Bai could afford to act a little more boldly.
Although Tang Hao might well still be following Tang San around, Su Bai's strength was now worlds apart from what it had been six years ago. As long as he didn't run straight into Tang Hao, he still had room to maneuver.
"You think we'll fight just because you say so?"
Instead, Tang San gritted his teeth, his eyes shifting as an idea came to him. He hoisted Yu Xiaogang onto his back and said, "My teacher was poisoned today. I'll remember this debt."
"Once my teacher recovers, I'll make you pay for what happened today and everything you did before!"
With that, he actually turned around and tried to flee.
Tang San had only blurted out the challenge in a moment of impulsiveness, wanting to show off in front of Xiao Wu. Now that he had calmed down a little, he realized something was wrong.
Su Bai was already a rank-thirty Soul Elder. How was a mere Soul Grandmaster like him supposed to fight that?
Unless he used hidden weapons.
But if he was going to use hidden weapons, choosing a head-on duel was clearly unwise.
Besides, Xiao Wu was watching. Even if he won with hidden weapons, she probably wouldn't think any better of him.
So Tang San prepared to leave.
But how could Su Bai let him leave so easily?
"You think you can come and go as you please?"
As his words fell, a thick strand of Blue Silver Grass shot out, wrapped straight around Tang San's calf, and yanked hard, sending him crashing to the ground.
Thud!
A sharp sound rang out as Tang San's face slammed hard into the ground. Blood immediately poured from his nose, and his expression twisted in pain.
Yu Xiaogang was flung off his back as well, rolling several times before coming to a stop. His condition had just begun to improve, but now his body started convulsing again, his legs shaking incessantly like a big dog suffering from distemper.
"You..."
Tang San braced both hands against the ground and was just about to get up when he felt the restraints around his body tighten.
Strand after strand of Blue Silver Grass coiled around him, locking his joints firmly in place, while another kept pulling his arm backward.
"How despicable! You ambushed me?"
Gritting his teeth through the agony, Tang San roared, "If you've got any guts, let me go! Xiao Wu, do you see this guy's true colors now? Isn't launching a sneak attack the act of a scoundrel?"
"I hadn't even agreed to fight you yet!"
But at those words, Xiao Wu merely snorted.
"If I remember correctly, you were the one who attacked first just now. You still have the nerve to talk?"
"Pah! Shameless!"
Su Bai stepped forward with a cold sneer. "When you two challenged me before, I don't recall you asking for my opinion either. Why waste so many words in a fight between Soul Masters?"
"You attacked first. I'm merely fighting back."
His thinking was simple: if you were going to play the whore, don't erect a monument to your chastity. To Su Bai, the purpose of fighting was to win at any cost, using any means available. That was perfectly normal.
Just don't ambush someone and then call them despicable. Don't be a double-standard dog.
As he spoke, Su Bai took another step forward. With a thought, he controlled the Blue Silver Grass and pulled Tang San's right arm backward with force.
"Do you still want that arm? Want it broken?"
Tang San's eyes flew wide open, his legs flailing in the air.
"No, no!"
"I was wrong before! I'll apologize! Isn't that enough?"
Hearing that, Su Bai gave him a harmless-looking smile. "An apology won't help. Even if you don't want it broken, it's getting broken!"
As his words fell, a sharp crack rang out.
The Blue Silver Grass yanked backward, snapping Tang San's right arm.
"Aaaah!!!"
Tang San's eyes widened abruptly, and he screamed in pain, clutching his arm as he rolled about.
"You bastard... my arm!"
Ignoring Tang San as he writhed on the ground, Su Bai took Xiao Wu by the hand and walked away, casting one last glance at him.
"Consider that arm my lesson to you. Use your brain before you do something next time."
"Don't assume everyone has as good a temper as I do!"
If Haozi hadn't been nearby, Su Bai would never have been so merciful. He had always believed in cutting out the weeds by their roots. Either he didn't strike at all, or he wiped his enemies out completely.
But today, he really had no choice. It would have been one thing if Tang San and Yu Xiaogang merely failed to recognize the gap in their strength, but they had kept provoking him.
Only then had Su Bai chosen to act, giving Tang San a small punishment so he could have some peace.
Xiao Wu had watched the whole thing from beside him. When she saw Su Bai break Tang San's arm, she raised an eyebrow. She showed no fear; there was even a hint in her eyes that she wanted more.
"So joint locks can be used like that too? Thanks, Su Bai! I feel like there's still room to improve my soft-body techniques!"
Su Bai rubbed his face at her words, unsure how to respond. He could only silently pray for the people who would encounter Xiao Wu in the future.
Only then did he remember just how violent this seemingly harmless little rabbit beside him actually was!
After leaving, the two wandered around Suotuo City for half the day before Xiao Wu suddenly yawned.
"I'm so tired... How about we find somewhere to rest?"
As she spoke, her eyes lit up, and she pointed at a distinctively designed hotel ahead.
The hotel stood three stories tall. Although it wasn't particularly large, its exterior was decorated entirely in rose red, making it an eye-catching sight.
"The Rose Hotel? I wanted to stay there when I first arrived in Suotuo City. Su Bai, let's go together, pretty please?"
When Xiao Wu had first arrived in Suotuo City, the hotel had caught her attention. But back then, she and Tang San had only been ordinary friends, so naturally, she hadn't considered staying there with him. As a result, the two had never run into Dai Mubai.
Seeing it again today, Xiao Wu immediately wanted to go inside and experience it for herself.
Su Bai raised an eyebrow at her words. After all those twists and turns, they had still ended up at the Rose Hotel. Interesting.
He wondered whether that one romantic room would be the only one left this time, too.
