Background / History
Arrival and adoption of Yuya
Kaguya arrives in the ancient Land of Ancestors alongside Ōtsutsuki Isshiki. Her assigned mission is to eliminate destabilizing factors, steal Earth’s natural energy, and harvest the God Tree’s fruit. Isshiki treats her branch-family status as grounds for subordination and pressures her to become his concubine. She conceals her hostility while considering a plan against him 1 3.
Su Ye’s arrival as a baby interrupts their confrontation when he lands directly on her face. By the time he awakens, Kaguya has apparently defeated Isshiki and credits the child with helping her. Nevertheless, his unexplained survival makes her regard him as a potential threat. She nearly kills him, but his trusting smile and outstretched hands move her to embrace him instead 1 3.
She adopts the child and names him Ōtsutsuki Yuya, taking inspiration from a drifting feather. Caring for him gives her a new purpose after breaking from Isshiki and her former mission 3 4.
Training and the God Tree vigil
Kaguya raises Yuya while traveling, teaching him Ōtsutsuki physical training and energy control. His unexpected Sharingan awakening astonishes her: it is neither her Byakugan nor a primordial Ōtsutsuki eye she recognizes. She subsequently studies its potential through the information she senses in his bloodline 7 8.
Near Ancestor City, the pair discover the God Tree that Isshiki planted long ago. Kaguya chooses to restrain its growth and make it bear fruit without draining the planet. She remains at the tree and entrusts governance of the Land of Ancestors to Yuya 9.
After nearly three years apart, Yuya returns to find her pale and exhausted. She has nevertheless followed his achievements, praises his governance, and tests his combat progress. She then gives him a Source Fruit drawn from the tree’s absorbed energy, sacrificing some of her own strength to support his development 10 14 15.
Saving Yuya from Isshiki
Kaguya discovers that Isshiki survived by shrinking himself with Sukunahikona and hiding inside Yuya since infancy. To remove him, she absorbs the God Tree’s power before it matures, despite its poisonous effects. During a prolonged chakra transfer, she draws Isshiki into her own body while nourishing Yuya 18 20.
She subsequently bears two threats: the God Tree assimilates her flesh, while Isshiki remains within her. She suppresses visible symptoms around Yuya, but alone her body withers, develops wood grain, and begins turning into roots. Yuya’s system eventually reveals that she has just over one year before complete consumption 18 20.
Decline and growing dependence
Kaguya continues expressing affection through practical gestures, including a cold-iron sword for Yuya. Their closeness also develops through a shopping outing, a masked festival date, and a kiss that Yuya later cannot tell was real or illusory. Afterwards, she withdraws and refuses visitors as her condition worsens 23 26 29 33.
The corruption affects both her appearance and behavior. She becomes increasingly fragile, suffers nightmares, destroys her room during an outburst, and sometimes behaves with childlike enthusiasm. Yuya comforts her through games, stories, and quiet care while searching for a remedy 34 35 40.
When Yuya leaves for the Wind-Snow Realm, Isshiki exploits her fear of abandonment. She recognizes that the companion left with her is a clone and destroys it. Spending her life force to suppress the corruption and restore her youthful appearance, she opens a portal and begs Yuya to return with her 41.
Possession and temporary reprieve
Isshiki takes control of Kaguya’s body during the ensuing battle. Yuya deliberately fights to expose and suppress him rather than kill her. His specialized Zhu Yin: Tsukuyomi forces Isshiki into temporary slumber, allowing Kaguya to regain awareness. Still disoriented, she stabs Yuya with her sword 43.
Horrified and afraid that Yuya will leave, Kaguya clings to him. He places her in a peaceful Tsukuyomi dream and uses Flow Reversal to reverse her affliction and slow time around her, providing one month of protection at the cost of blinding his left eye 44.
In the dream, she marries Yuya, raises Hagoromo and Hamura with him, and grows old beside him. This family life occurs within the illusion, not the waking storyline. When she awakens, her former appearance has returned, but Yuya is absent; she asks his remaining clone to play chess while she waits 44 45.
Waiting during Yuya’s absence
While Yuya searches Abe Seimei’s ruins for a cure, Kaguya’s memories and awareness deteriorate again. She revisits places associated with him, then retreats to her room and records her thoughts in a notebook, afraid of losing her way or making herself impossible for him to find 50.
Rumors branding her a demoness spread, and foreign nations besiege the Land of Ancestors to demand her surrender. During a final lucid interval, she goes to the God Tree, apparently intending one last act for Yuya. She is later found unconscious in bed holding an unidentified baby, with trees overtaking her room. Fewer than ten days remain on the consumption countdown 50.
Appearance
Kaguya is tall and strikingly beautiful, with an ethereal bearing 1.
- Hair: Silver, initially described as cascading to her waist; later trails across the floor 1 23.
- Eyes: Pure-white, pupil-less Byakugan. Activation produces pronounced veins around her eyes 1 3.
- Horns: Two horns grow from her head 1.
- Clothing: A signature white kimono 1 7.
- Forehead eye: Develops a vertical slit and emerging Rinne Sharingan after drawing closer to the God Tree 18 23 29.
- Corruption symptoms: Pallor, deep wrinkles, bark-like skin, wood-grain markings, and legs transforming into roots. Eventually, bark-like markings cover half her face 18 26 34.
Personality
Initially composed, suspicious, and mission-focused, Kaguya is willing to eliminate an unexplained infant as a security risk. Her decision to spare Yuya reveals a capacity for tenderness that her outward coldness obscures. His trust gives her a sense of being needed after her apparent liberation from Isshiki 1 3.
As a teacher, she is exacting rather than lavish with praise. She analyzes Yuya’s technique, points out wasted stamina, and emphasizes control over raw strength. Her rare approval is specific and grounded in his demonstrated abilities 7 8 15.
Her attachment extends beyond Yuya to the planet itself. She rejects unnecessary plunder and chastises him for proposing that they accelerate the God Tree’s destruction of Earth 9.
Kaguya is proud and guarded about her suffering, often communicating care through gifts or actions rather than direct explanation. She is also easily embarrassed: in the haunted house, she disguises her own fear as concern for Yuya. As corruption erodes her judgment, this reserve gives way to confusion, distress, and an intense fear of abandonment 23 24 26 29 41.
Abilities & Skills
Byakugan
Kaguya uses her white-eyed dōjutsu for observation and detailed analysis 3 5 7.
- Examines Yuya’s constitution and searches for unusual energy 3.
- Surveys terrain while seeking a suitable God Tree planting site 5.
- Analyzes the strength and mechanics of Yuya’s physical attacks 7.
- Identifies Yuya’s clone as a construct of chakra 41.
Eighty Gods Vacuum Attack
She manifests immense chakra as enormous invisible fists, without requiring hand seals 6.
- Shatters a rock-armored beast’s horn and skull armor while holding Yuya with her other arm 6.
- Breaks several senjutsu Wood Dragons during the battle in which Isshiki controls her body 43.
Space-Time Ninjutsu
Kaguya travels through spatial ripples and portals 17 18.
- Transports herself and Yuya between locations 18.
- Sends her festival prizes home 29.
- Uses a portal to intercept Yuya before he enters the Wind-Snow Realm 41.
- Her possessed body uses Yomotsu Hirasaka for escape and surprise attacks; Yuya’s spatial interference can delay its activation 43.
Chakra Control and Yin-Yang Release
Her control supports combat, caregiving, and the transfer of power 6 15 18.
- Bathes infant Yuya inside a carefully controlled sphere of water 6.
- Restrains her strength to remain slightly above Yuya during a training match 15.
- Transfers chakra into him for an entire day and night, strengthening his vitality and reserves 18.
- The cold-iron sword she gives him is identified by Yuya as having been forged with Yin-Yang Release 23.
- Her body also produces a Yin-Yang Release sword during Isshiki’s possession; its wound continues extinguishing Yuya’s life force after she regains awareness 43.
God Tree Power
Kaguya can activate and absorb the tree’s power, and extract energy from it into a Source Fruit 15 20.
- Uses its power to draw Isshiki out of Yuya and into herself 20.
- Gains greater power and an emerging forehead dōjutsu 18.
- Suffers progressive bodily assimilation and mental deterioration because the absorbed power is immature 20 41.
- Can conceal or suppress symptoms temporarily, including by spending her life force 20 41.
Truth-Seeking Orbs and All-Killing Ash Bones
- Truth-Seeking Orb: Prepares one against the festival’s monster-shaped entrance, mistaking the prop for a threat 29.
- All-Killing Ash Bones: Her possessed body launches a bone projectile that pierces Susanoo and causes its target to decay. The apparent Yuya it strikes is a decoy 43.
Abilities Used During Possession
The following appear while Isshiki controls Kaguya’s body and should not be treated as proof of her independent mastery:
- Super Shinra Tensei: Releases a repulsive force that crushes Yuya’s wooden hands 43.
- Daikokuten: Manifests a black cube to block Indra’s Arrow. Its use accompanies Isshiki’s golden, eight-spoked right-eye pattern 43.
- Absorption limitation: The possessed body cannot absorb Yuya’s incoming attacks because they contain natural energy 43.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Gray-blue silk scarf — Yuya’s gift, embroidered with stars and her profile; intended to provide warmth and block mild energy erosion 14.
- Source Fruit — An immature, deep-purple fruit containing primordial chakra essence; given to Yuya at a personal cost to her strength 15.
- Plush toys — Wins several at a claw machine and carries a Little Monster toy into the Adventure House 29.
- Notebook — Uses it to preserve her thoughts as her memory deteriorates during Yuya’s absence 50.
Relationships
- Ōtsutsuki Yuya / Su Ye — Adopted ward and student, later the focus of romantic affection. He calls her “Big sis,” while she repeatedly sacrifices her strength and safety for him. His search for a cure becomes a central response to her decline 3 4 7 20 29 44.
- Ōtsutsuki Isshiki — Coercive superior turned enemy and possessor. After surviving her attack inside Yuya, he is transferred into Kaguya and exploits her deteriorating mind to seize control of her body 1 20 41 43.
- Qingyi — Yuya’s maid, whom Kaguya regards favorably while discussing his life in Ancestor City 15.
- Abe Seimei — A potential source of salvation rather than a demonstrated personal acquaintance. His remnant souls can perform a secret art to cleanse Kaguya of God Tree corruption and the Ōtsutsuki possessor, but doing so will consume them 49.

Trivia
- Yuya’s system records Kaguya’s affection at 10 when their bond forms, 23 after his infant water attack, and 99 after correcting a calculation error. Above 20, the bond gives Yuya a faint mentally soothing effect on her 4 6 18.
- Her frightened grip in the Adventure House crushes bones in Yuya’s hand despite his enhanced physique 29 30.
- She eagerly reads a book about handling a child’s rebellious phase, then throws it down in embarrassment after discovering Yuya wrote it himself 24.
- Abe Seimei’s account leads Yuya to reinterpret Kaguya’s merger with the God Tree as planetary salvation rather than simple greed: merging can halt the tree’s devastation, but risks the loss of the host’s identity 48.
