Power Progression
Multipliers below are Gohan’s estimates or figures explicitly stated in the text. God-ki forms do not follow the same fixed-multiplier system as ordinary Super Saiyan transformations 92 97.
| Stage / Realm / Level | Chapter | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Super Saiyan | 7 | Already available when his early Chamber experiments begin. Gives a fiftyfold increase over base power. |
| Muscular Super Saiyan enhancement | 7 | Develops after a week of meditation and experimentation. Initially estimates at least seventyfold base strength, but detects severe energy leakage. |
| Further muscular enhancement | 7 | Reaches approximately ninetyfold base strength. Rejects its practicality because of extreme energy consumption and speed reduced by half. |
| Full-power Super Saiyan | 8 28 | Proposes acclimating to Super Saiyan as an everyday state; later explicitly uses full-power Super Saiyan against Bojack. |
| Super Saiyan 2 | 28 29 | Breaks through during prolonged combat with Bojack, then kills him with one punch. Studies the form and trains for another six months in the Chamber. |
| Great Ape | 31 | Deliberately transforms on Mount Paozu while retaining his reason; provides the basis for his combined ape transformations. |
| Golden Great Ape / Super Saiyan Great Ape | 31 32 | Combines Great Ape’s tenfold amplification with Super Saiyan’s fiftyfold amplification for a five-hundredfold increase. Initially cannot add Super Saiyan 2 or complete Super Saiyan 4. |
| Mystic Form / Ultimate Mystic Form | 38 40 | Old Kai unlocks his hidden potential after Gohan frees him from the Z Sword. Initially estimates a roughly 450-fold, balanced increase; later describes it as between 450 and 500 times base power. |
| Super Saiyan 3 | 80 | Reveals that he developed it two years earlier. Its four-hundredfold increase and substantial drawbacks made him prefer Mystic Form. |
| Super Saiyan 2 Great Ape | 80 | Successfully adds Super Saiyan 2 to Golden Great Ape during the Cooler battle, overcoming the earlier failed experiments. |
| Super Saiyan 3 Great Ape | 80 | Combines Great Ape with Super Saiyan 3 for a four-thousandfold increase. This state produces the insight needed for Super Saiyan 4. |
| Super Saiyan 4 | 80 | Returns to a humanoid body while retaining approximately the preceding ape form’s power. Gains much better balance, speed, stamina, defense, and energy efficiency. |
| Initial god-ki assimilation | 89 98 | Beerus detects traces of his own god ki in Gohan’s attacks. Later notices denser god ki containing a trace of destruction energy after further combat. |
| Super Saiyan God | 92 | Independently develops the god ki absorbed from Beerus after six months of Chamber training with Piccolo, without the usual ritual. |
| Super Saiyan 4–Limit Breakthrough | 92 | After another six months, infuses Super Saiyan 4 with his own god ki. Combines the two forms’ advantages, doubles his combat power, and keeps energy consumption minimal. |
| Super Saiyan Blue | 97 | Develops an advanced god-ki transformation using the Super Saiyan method. Its powerful output rapidly exhausts his ki and stamina during a spar with Beerus. |
| Beast Form | 115 116 | Awakens a new silver-haired transformation following the escalating battle with Broly. |
| Beast stacked with Ultra Ego | 150 | Completes a combination he had been developing since fighting Jiren. Beerus’s pressure triggers the breakthrough; damage and emotion fuel increasing strength. |
| Divine-realm training | 150 164 | Begins studying god ki, destruction, divine laws, and God of Destruction responsibilities. Subsequently demonstrates overwhelming strength even without transforming. |
| Beast Full Power Release | 222 223 | Fuses Super Saiyan 4 Limit Breaker, Beast, Ultra Ego, and God of Destruction power. Matches Beerus fighting at full strength, although Beerus later claims he used only ninety percent. |
| Angel-surpassing strength | 257 278 | Beerus acknowledges that Gohan has surpassed him. Whis senses strength approaching the Grand Minister’s level; a later account explicitly places Gohan above Angels. |
| Super Saiyan 5 — confirmed available | 368 | Demonstrates the form while teaching alternate-timeline Trunks. Its acquisition circumstances and multiplier are not supplied. |
| Transformation power integrated into base form | 368 | States that he can use every transformation’s power in his normal state, eliminating the need to transform for serious combat. |
| Grand Minister-level power | 458 | Places the evolved Universe Core into his Source Universe’s World Tree. The tree returns primordial power to him, bringing him to the Grand Minister’s level. |
Background / History
Gohan inherits the history of a devastated future Earth. The side-story profile describes Future Gohan’s childhood battles under Goku and Piccolo, Goku’s death from heart disease, and the Androids’ destruction of the other Z Fighters. Forced to abandon his scholarly ambitions, that Gohan becomes Earth’s defender and Trunks’s mentor, eventually sacrificing his remaining Senzu Bean for Trunks after losing an arm. The profile follows the original tragic outcome, rather than the protagonist’s later survival and advancement 348.
The protagonist survives the Android attack after knocking Trunks unconscious to keep him away from the battle. Believing him dead, Trunks buries him. Bulma subsequently treats his catastrophic injuries with a Recovery Potion, and he awakens at her home after two and a half days. Chi-Chi and Ox-King had already died, leaving him without surviving family at that point 2.
This Gohan possesses memories from both his present and previous lives, along with the strengthened soul and insight produced by two fused souls. His previous-life knowledge includes Dragon Ball, but it is incomplete: his memories stop at the Moro arc, and changes to the timeline repeatedly force him to seek fresh information 7 25 218.
He changes his approach to strength by training fundamentals, experimenting with transformations, and treating martial arts as a subject of research. His restored family, marriage to Videl, and fatherhood later reinforce his commitment to daily training. A stake in Capsule Corporation provides substantial dividends and financial security for his household 6 70.
Appearance
- Normal physique: Tall and powerfully built, with a conspicuous furry Saiyan tail and a strong resemblance to Goku. A Namekian initially mistakes him for his father 8 11 217.
- Early injuries: Initially missing his left arm and bearing a scar across his eye. Later appears with both arms and no scar; he credits Shenron with restoring the arm and removing the scar 7 14 55 68.
- Mystic Form: Slightly more muscular, with sharper, more mature features and a silvery-white aura, but otherwise close to his normal appearance 40.
- Super Saiyan 4: Long black hair, golden eyes, dark-red eye markings, dark-red fur across his upper body and arms, and a dark-red tail 80.
- Limit Breakthrough: Orange-red hair with fluorescent flecks, brighter red fur, and an aura that shifts from gold through pink to rose red 92.
- Beast and Ultra Ego combination: Silver-purple hair, one red eye and one purple eye 150.
- Beast Full Power Release: A muscular, two-meter-tall body, upright silver hair with a hanging forelock, and a sunlike halo on his forehead 222.
Personality
Gohan is analytical about power rather than satisfied with attaining a new transformation. He tests speed, durability, stamina, and energy consumption, discarding impractical approaches and revisiting failed experiments when his underlying strength improves. His teaching similarly emphasizes foundations, perseverance, and understanding techniques well enough to make them his own 6 7 32 92.
He is affectionate and teasing with family, friends, and students. He pranks Trunks in the Chamber, hugs his old companions on their reunion, and enjoys sharing food with Goku. Romantic confidence comes less easily: Videl’s confession leaves him flustered and distracted despite his composure in battle 6 55 57 59.
His love of fighting becomes increasingly pronounced. Against Broly, he deliberately gives his opponent a Senzu Bean to prolong their contest. Nevertheless, he can exercise precise restraint, stopping attacks when Goku concedes and limiting his strength to avoid seriously injuring Jiren 60 115 230.
Protection of his home and loved ones remains his clearest priority. He can be ruthless toward direct threats, killing Bojack’s scout after extracting information and accepting Baby’s death as necessary to safeguard Earth. Conversely, he incapacitates Kale without seriously harming her and later allows Cooler to leave for an honest rematch 25 108 164 212.
His humor does not erase resentment over his years of isolation. When reunited companions assume that he managed comfortably alone, he challenges their failure to send even a message about possible resurrection through the Dragon Balls 55.
Abilities & Skills
Saiyan Transformations
- Develops both conventional Super Saiyan forms and combinations involving Great Ape power, god ki, and unlocked potential 80 92 223.
- Golden Great Ape requires Blutz Waves; early attempts to combine it with Super Saiyan 2 fail 32.
- Mystic Form provides balanced power and consumes no ki while he is not attacking in its initial assessment 40.
- Super Saiyan Blue initially suffers from poor mastery and severe expenditure, especially with his full-output fighting style 97.
- Eventually accesses the power of all his transformations in base form 368.
Regeneration and Recovery
- Describes his physique as an “immortal, indestructible body,” with extraordinary self-healing and recovery 29.
- Regenerates a finger bitten off by Bojack and repeatedly returns to peak condition during demanding battles 28 115.
- Explores whether his healing can combine with Saiyan recovery after near-death experiences 29.
- Destruction energy can slow his regeneration; he also uses Senzu Beans rather than waiting for recovery 97 223.
Ki Attacks and Energy Manipulation
| Technique | Documented applications |
|---|---|
| Ki Blasts and energy waves | Demonstrates ki by pulverizing a boulder; later destroys fleeing Androids and erases the remaining Zamasus with thousands of targeted blasts 23 53 278. |
| Kamehameha | Defeats Janemba and redirects Cooler’s planet-threatening Supernova into the sky 54 78. |
| Tenfold Kamehameha | Combines it with Instant Transmission against Champa; their beam clash tears open a spatial rift 100. |
| Special Beam Cannon | Secretly learns Piccolo’s technique. Its charged power prompts Goku to concede their spar 60. |
| Ki Sword / ki blade | Switches the blade between hands against Beerus, cuts Champa’s energy sphere apart, and ends a spar with a blade at Jiren’s neck 89 100 231. |
| Energy extraction | Draws Janemba’s ki out into a glowing sphere, progressively weakening him. Observers initially mistake the technique for a Spirit Bomb 53. |
Defensive Ki Control
- Energy Barrier: Withstands Kale’s berserk assault while Gohan remains unharmed. Her later point-blank blast eventually destroys it 164.
- Energy Liquefaction: Survives Whis’s concealed surprise strike, impressing both Whis and Beerus. The defense consumes nearly all his remaining ki 96.
Instant Transmission and Spatial Control
- Learns techniques on Planet Yardrat and confirms that he has just returned from there when he rescues Goku using Instant Transmission 44 51.
- Uses teleportation for rescues, interworld travel, and attacks from unexpected angles 51 59 60 100.
- Requires a usable energy signature for his demonstrated Instant Transmission routes; when unable to sense Trunks from Other World, he returns through King Kai’s Planet 57.
- Greater divine-energy perception lets him locate the Supreme Kai’s ki more clearly 96.
- Tears through the Hyperbolic Time Chamber’s spatial barrier to leave despite its lifetime restriction 92 106.
- Later uses spatial transference to seize an enemy commander directly from the battlefield 459.
God Ki, Ultra Ego, and Destruction
- Absorbs and develops god ki released during battles with Beerus, ultimately achieving Super Saiyan God independently 89 92.
- Ultra Ego contributes combat-fueled growth to his Beast combination and Beast Full Power Release 150 223.
- Uses Destruction to eliminate Jiren’s powerful energy sphere 230.
- Training in divine laws expands what he can accomplish, including storing planet-sized Super Dragon Balls 150.
Healing and Purification
- Heals Kale, Caulifla, and Cabba after their battle, and restores alternate-timeline Goku and Vegeta 164 263.
- Purifies the Dark Dragon Balls’ mind-distorting influence from One-Armed Gohan while preserving his strength and healing accumulated injuries 403.
- Removes Black Mist contamination from Mr. Popo, although Popo’s increased ki remains afterward 458.
Prophecy, Perception, and Memory Reading
- Uses prophetic power to check for danger during the coming week. His vision of Earthlings turning against Saiyans helps him identify Baby as the likely threat, but the images are brief and blurry 106.
- Uses divine sense to search for timelines; widespread chaos can interfere with it 403.
- Forcibly reads a demon general’s memories during the invasion. The general’s low rank limits the intelligence obtained 459.
Teaching and Training
- Builds training around base power, toughness, combat skills, transformation experiments, and consolidation of lessons 6 8.
- Explains ki sensing and control before teaching Videl flight 23 24.
- Coaches Cabba, Caulifla, and Kale through restrained sparring and practical training methods 165 222.
- Matches his children’s and Goten’s power during sparring, using experience and precision to expose their individual weaknesses 284 285.

Trivia
- He recognizes “Mystic Gohan” as a name coined by internet fans in his previous life and considers “Mystic Form” more fitting 40.
- His son’s name, Sun Wu, uses Wu to mean martial arts and also pays tribute to his previous life 70.
- Food repeatedly serves as diplomacy: he diverts Beerus from destroying Earth and secures a way to attract Beerus and Whis for future visits 85 91.
- He imitates Beerus’s habit of understating his effort, telling Jiren that he used “about seventy percent” despite privately knowing he could win with one punch 231.
- Unless something urgent intervenes, he returns home for meals—a habit Chi-Chi contrasts favorably with Goku’s frequent training absences 293.
