Background

When the Azure Tide Sect was founded ten thousand years earlier, according to the early account of its history, it cleared high-level demonic beasts from the surrounding mountains. The area subsequently served as a relatively safe training ground for Qi Refining disciples, with abundant spiritual energy supporting spirit herbs and flowers 26.

Peace City’s cultivation lineages depend on the sect for protection, spiritual-root testing, and cultivation instruction. The Su Lineage practices the sect-provided Spirit Guiding Art, a universal core method suitable for any spiritual root. Its most talented children generally leave for the sect, while less gifted cultivators may remain as lineage elders or enter marriage alliances 2.

Protection carries obligations. The Four Great Households could not freely refuse the dangerous Great March Mountain hunt, and the sect ordered survivors to keep its details secret. Compensation was provided, but Madam Su rejected the idea that it could repay the lives lost 3 4.

Earlier History

The initial ten-thousand-year account does not encompass the sect’s full history. The soul of the Vast Righteousness Sect’s First Sect Master recalls that Azure Tide Sect was already a well-established, foremost sect on the Nine Provinces Continent thirty thousand years earlier. Its sect master saved his life, and he stayed there for a time without becoming a disciple. Its influence subsequently helped inspire him to establish the Vast Righteousness Sect 1276 1277 1557.

Su Jiu estimates from this testimony that Azure Tide Sect must be at least forty thousand years old. Xia Jue corrects her estimate to one hundred thousand years, noting that the Library Pavilion lacks a detailed record of its founding date 1557.

An Inner Gate disciple of the original sect became the ancestor of another Azure Tide Sect in a different Azure Realm ten thousand years earlier. That organization is later treated as a branch and incorporated into the original sect after the two continents merge 1213.

Disciple Categories

Category Known conditions and privileges
Laborer Disciples Newcomers with poor roots who have not achieved qi induction are commonly assigned laborer duties. They may apply to enter the Outer Gate upon reaching the third level of Qi Refining 10.
Outer Gate Disciples Receive a handbook, allowance, lessons, and mission access. They may enter the Library Pavilion once per month. Upon reaching Foundation Establishment, they can formally enter the Inner Gate 10 11 14 85.
Inner Gate Disciples Perform duties including recruitment and Library Pavilion registration. Many still practice only low-grade cultivation methods. They receive greater resources than Outer Gate disciples but must undertake mandatory missions, including assignments outside sect territory 4 5 42 49 85.
True Disciples A distinct category; Lu Tianqi is initially accepted into Water Shadow Peak as a True Disciple 9.
Personal Disciples Direct disciples of masters, widely admired by other members. The sect has twenty-odd Personal Disciples in the early storyline, who usually undertake missions within their own circle. Their institutional standing is below only the sect leader, peak masters, and elders, regardless of differences in cultivation realm 8 9 85.

Personal Disciples have relatively little contact with Outer Gate, Inner Gate, and True Disciples. Su Jiu’s previous position as the sect leader’s youngest Personal Disciple largely kept her separate from Bai Su 8 9.

Personal Disciples receive missions directly from the sect’s senior leaders rather than from the Inner Gate Steward Hall. Even a Golden Core Inner Gate disciple has no authority over a Qi Refining Personal Disciple 85.

Most Personal Disciples enter the sect as children and spend their formative years within it, even if they are not immediately accepted by a master. Their small numbers on each peak and emphasis on cultivation limit internal scheming; outside the sect, they are known for standing together against common enemies 456 718.

Enforcement Hall

The Enforcement Hall develops into one of the sect’s most important institutions, handling internal discipline, external investigations, covert operations, and responses to major threats. Its members’ effectiveness wins support even on other sects’ territory, although their harsh methods also inspire fear 397 617 1241 1798.

Rank or division Function
Third rank Mostly Foundation Establishment cultivators handling matters within the sect and its territory. Yi Zheng manages most of these affairs, with Xia Jue sometimes intervening 397.
Second rank Handles affairs outside the sect, generally under a Nascent Soul or Golden Core Great Perfection leader 397.
First rank Members with particular individual abilities who undertake separate assignments elsewhere. Their identities are deeply concealed, and even Su Jiu knows little about them 397.
Shadow Division Identified during Ning Fan’s capture of Sha Zilai, the Water Moon School leader’s third Personal Disciple, for suspected plotting against Su Jiu and Chu Luohen 617.

The Hall is equipped to conduct prolonged, brutal interrogations. The sect’s supplies of pills and spirit stones allow interrogators to preserve captives’ lives even after severe injury, while preventing them from escaping questioning through suicide 470.

Feng Qi later recognizes that the sect’s standing is closely bound to Xia Jue’s abilities as Hall Master, despite the sect not depending on him alone 1882.

Recruitment and Admission

Spiritual-Root Testing

  • Regular schedule: The sect normally recruits in Peace City every ten years. Su Jiu’s current intake begins in July, one year early, for reasons unknown to the affiliated lineages 2.
  • Minimum testing age: Children must be at least six, when their spiritual roots have fully developed. Premature cultivation risks permanently damaging those roots 2.
  • Testing equipment: Candidates stand on a White Jade Platform; the resulting display reveals their root attributes and aptitude 4 5.
  • Multiple recruitment sites: A spirit boat gathers several thousand candidates from different cities. Peace City contributes fewer than thirty recruits and is assigned four recruiting cultivators 6.
  • Older applicants: Exceptions are made for candidates already cultivating. Zhao Yingzhi joins after sixteen because he has reached the third level of Qi Refining 14.
  • Remaining at home: Some candidates with four or five roots accept the Spirit Guiding Art instead of joining. Their lineages offer fewer resources and less concentrated spiritual energy 6.

Heavenly Ladder

The Heavenly Ladder, also called the Heavenly Stairway, stands before the mountain gate and tests candidates through exhausting ascent and illusions drawn from their fears and desires. Outstanding spiritual-root aptitude does not exempt anyone from the trial 5 7 8.

  • Escaping the first illusion is enough to qualify; candidates need not complete the entire climb 7.
  • Elders observe the examination from Rising Sun Hall, with Su Jiu’s climb displayed in the Sun-Shielding Mirror 7 8.
  • Su Jiu completes the full stairway, but a stern, sword-bearing man orders that she be assigned to the Outer Gate despite the Grand Elder’s objections 8.
  • The trial remains a defining admission requirement in comparisons with the more permissive Heavenly Dawn Sect: candidates who cannot pass it are rejected outright 160.

Restrictions on Accepting Masters

After Sun Dongdong’s betrayal, the sect institutes a rule that exceptionally talented disciples with spiritual-root aptitude of ninety percent or higher cannot seek a master before Foundation Establishment. Chu Luohen likewise only enters Ice Veil Peak after reaching that realm 56.

Territory and Facilities

Nine Great Peaks

Peak or group Function and features
Central main peak Residential area for Outer Gate disciples; also houses the Grand Tournament’s fighting platforms 14 67.
Five Elements Peaks Five of the sect’s nine great peaks 14.
Purgatory Peak Imprisons sect offenders 14.
Mist Peak / Cloudmist Peak Residence of successive generations of ancestors above the sect master; formations conceal it from view. Its residents may not interfere in sect affairs unless the sect faces annihilation 14 474.
Ice Veil Peak Home of Chu Mojin and Chu Luohen. Entry is restricted by formations and a token-operated Ice Jade Platform; its extreme cold makes prolonged stays difficult 14 17.
Separate peak for the merged branch Offered to Lou Sheng to house disciples from the other Azure Realm’s Azure Tide Sect 1213.

After Ning Hai reaches Spirit Severing, his master invites him to settle on Cloudmist Peak. Ning Hai declines because the sect still needs him. He receives no complete explanation of the peak’s restrictive rules during the visit 474.

Other Facilities

  • Heavenly Origin Hall — Meeting place for the sect leader, peak masters, and elders; also used for investigative reports and observation through the Heaven-and-Earth Mirror 37 47 49.
  • Library Pavilion — Holds cultivation references, including information on mutated roots and talisman-making. Access is registered, and a jade token signals when a reader’s allotted time expires 11 42.
  • Steward Hall — Posts missions on wooden plaques and handles registration, payments, and contribution-point exchanges 14 21 28.
  • Inner Gate Steward Hall — Assigns mandatory missions to Inner Gate disciples; Personal Disciples instead receive assignments from senior leaders 85.
  • Enforcement Hall — Investigates deaths and disciplinary incidents; later conducts extensive external and covert operations 21 28 397.
  • Treasure Pavilion — Its holdings, together with those of the Library Pavilion, become major incentives for the mob seeking to plunder the sect during the Demon Realm crisis 1903.
  • Marketplace — Located at the mountain’s foot; shops and street stalls trade pills, talismans, artifacts, and other cultivation supplies. The sect protects the associated city and enforces restrictions on dangerous goods 23 24 1561.
  • Golden Guard Peak bamboo forest — Contains unusually tough, half-spiritual bamboo nourished by the sect’s spiritual energy; Jin Chen trains there with his heavy sword 44.
  • Grand Tournament platforms — Located on Main Peak, marked by six sect-emblem flags each, and surrounded by protective formation markings to contain the effects of combat 67.
  • Sect-Protecting Grand Formation — A strong defensive formation with a lethal counterattacking array. It withstands repeated attacks by the mob outside the mountain gate before a later, initially unexplained reversal 1903.

Secret Realms and Access

  • Sect Secret Realm: Opens once every ten years and is said to have existed for two thousand years. By Su Jiu’s visit, most valuable contents have already been exhausted, although its dense spiritual energy remains useful for cultivation 81.
  • Far North Secret Realm: The sect obtains three entry places from the Rogue Cultivator Alliance. Tong Qi, Su Jiu, and Xia Jue are the originally selected participants, although Su Jiu’s disappearance complicates the arrangement 412.
  • Three Great Secret Realms: Later require repeated reinforcement because their seals fluctuate violently. Senior cultivators depart to establish seals intended to close rifts in the sky, weakening the defense of their home sects 1797 1919.

Cultivation Resources

Instruction and Methods

  • Spirit Guiding Art — Universal core method supplied to affiliated lineages. The sect discourages using it for exceptionally gifted roots, since a cultivator can practice only one core cultivation method 2.
  • Water-Wisdom Sword Art — The sect leader’s signature sword formula, taught only to his Personal Disciples. Su Jiu remembers it from her previous life 22.
  • Fire cultivation techniques — Hong Ling’s superior fire methods help persuade Su Mianmian to choose her as master 8.
  • Five Elements Cultivation Method — Yi Xiu’s superior-grade method, offered through a formation trial after her injuries leave her with little remaining lifespan 49.
  • Daoist arts and weapon choice — The sect primarily cultivates Daoist arts but does not prescribe which Magic Treasures disciples must use, producing a wide variety of weapons and combat approaches 67.
  • Free methods after the merger — Feng Qi explains that Qi Refining disciples receive free cultivation methods, while Inner Gate disciples receive free mental cultivation methods and access to higher-tier methods 1213.
  • Crafting limitations — Both the original sect and its counterpart in the other Azure Realm are described as comparatively weaker in pill, artifact, formation, and talisman crafting 1041.

Supplies and Mission Economy

  • Su Jiu’s initial Outer Gate package contains ten low-grade Spirit-Gathering Pills, one lower-grade spirit stone, fifty spirit pearls, a uniform, and instructional books 10.
  • Disciples earn contribution points primarily through missions and can exchange them for resources; Su Jiu obtains a Storage Bag this way 14 21.
  • Missions include garden watering, herb gathering, beast hunting, and security patrols. Rewards are posted with each assignment, while some failures carry substantial penalties 14 21 28 37.
  • Sect-made Spirit-Gathering Pills bear its emblem and are better than those made by unaffiliated alchemists. They sell for one spirit stone and twenty spirit pearls apiece at retail, with demand exceeding supply 23.
  • Monthly pills do not necessarily sustain low-aptitude disciples for an entire month. Han Jia recalls spending five years dependent on poorly paid work and only ten days’ worth of pills per month 37.
  • The sect is built over a spiritual vein, giving it far denser spiritual energy than outside locations. Its mission rewards are also described as more generous than those available at the marketplace 68.
  • Inner Gate resource increases accompany mandatory service. Simple assignments, such as recruitment, offer smaller rewards, while dangerous work, including hunting demonic cultivators, provides substantially greater compensation 85.
  • Luo Cang alone is reported to control two spirit stone veins. The sect’s overall resources are described as exceeding those of the Heavenly Dawn Sect despite the latter’s aristocratic-clan backing 848.
  • The regular distribution of Magic Treasures to disciples contributes to the sect suffering fewer losses than other sects during the later crisis 1903.

Allowances Described During the Merger

Feng Qi gives Lou Sheng the following monthly resource terms for disciples joining the unified sect 1213.

Disciple level Stated monthly allowance
Outer Gate One bottle of Hemostatic Pills and ten spirit stones 1213.
Inner Gate, Foundation Establishment Double the Outer Gate allowance 1213.
Inner Gate, Golden Core Double the Foundation Establishment allowance 1213.

Foundation Establishment disciples are also capable of earning resources through missions and demon-beast hunting rather than relying solely on their allowance 1213.

Power Progression

Stage or milestone Development in organizational strength
Early historical prominence Already a well-established, foremost sect on the Nine Provinces Continent thirty thousand years before the relevant recollection; its actual history is later stated to span one hundred thousand years 1276 1277 1557.
Opening storyline Maintains nine great peaks, senior councils, affiliated lineages, and approximately one hundred thousand Qi Refining Outer Gate disciples 14 37 38.
Patrol mobilization More than thirty-two thousand middle- and late-stage Qi Refining disciples volunteer, producing a projected six-year rotation 37 38.
Regional anti-demonic leadership Five other major sects answer its call, while demonic leadership regards its Foundation Establishment disciples as a serious threat 147 327.
Ning Hai’s breakthrough The sect leader reaches Spirit Severing, altering the regional balance and drawing congratulations from other sects 474.
Continued cultivation advances Outside observers remark that sect members have been advancing successively without a single failed advancement during the period described 477.
Branch incorporation Absorbs Lou Sheng’s Azure Tide Sect from the other Azure Realm, offering its disciples a separate peak, monthly resources, and cultivation methods 1213.
Foremost-sect standing After the Vast Righteousness Sect’s fall, observers see it as the remaining leading claimant in reputation; it is later described as firmly holding the position of greatest sect 1439 1888.
Demonic invasion Despite manpower losses to the Three Great Secret Realms, responds promptly, gains help from protected clans, and doubles patrol and guard personnel 1797.
Destruction of premises Its original site is razed, but its members survive as an organization and explicitly reject the claim that the sect has perished or disbanded 1919 1920 1936.
Postwar reconstruction Rebuilds rapidly under Ning Fan with assistance from friendly sects, smaller sects, and rogue cultivators; remains powerful in the subsequent side stories 1969 1973.

Rules and Internal Conditions

  • Sect code: Every disciple must memorize a rulebook containing more than two thousand major and minor rules 10.
  • Private fighting: Unauthorized fights within the sect are prohibited. After Yu Yin attacks her, Su Jiu asks witnesses to confirm that her retaliation was self-defense 21.
  • Home visits: An unwritten rule bars disciples from returning to their lineages before Foundation Establishment; some may never reach the required realm 6.
  • Aptitude-based support: The sect ordinarily gives exceptional talents substantial support. Chu Mojin acknowledges that Su Jiu has reason to find her Outer Gate assignment unfair 18.
  • Outer Gate exploitation: Bullies extort disciples without backing, and the Outer Gate’s enormous population makes such incidents easy to overlook. It contains approximately one hundred thousand Qi Refining disciples 14 38.
  • Dangerous possessions: Beneficial possessions of Demonic Cultivators, Heretical Cultivators, and others who stray from the righteous path may be retained, but harmful objects must be destroyed immediately or purified by someone capable of doing so 56.
  • Qi Refining travel limits: Qi Refining disciples are forbidden to gain experience beyond the sect’s supervised territory, a restriction intended to protect them from robbery and murder 74.
  • Changing regulations: Ning Hai acknowledges that the sect has adopted both sound and mistaken rules over its history and that its regulations continue to change 74.
  • Protection of Personal Disciples: Xia Jue warns Shen Qingyue that the Enforcement Hall can punish her for harming a Personal Disciple 465.
  • Limits on A Qi’s involvement: Hong Ling explicitly reminds the Grand Elder that his newly introduced Personal Disciple will not participate in internal sect affairs 1253.
  • Visitor screening: Visitors admitted for a major ceremony must undergo checks for demonic qi, including those from minor sects and cultivation clans seeking closer ties 1439.
  • Storybook prohibition: The sect bans the sale of storybooks after discovering that they can poison the spirit platform and cause cultivation deviation. Enforcement Hall disciples burn a seller’s stock and confiscate his Storage Bag after he violates the ban 1561.
  • Wartime security: Following the full-scale demonic invasion, internal security tightens and the number of disciples assigned to patrol and guard duty doubles 1797.
  • Postwar blacklist: Ning Fan refuses assistance from people who previously attacked the sect, secretly blacklisting offenders that include several large rogue cultivator alliances 1969.

Uniforms

Wearer Identifying features
Outer Gate disciple Moon-white robe with black patterns or embroidery at the cuffs; the lowest-ranking sect uniform 10 33.
Personal Disciple Gold-edged embroidery at both collar and cuffs, with finer fabric than the Outer Gate uniform 10.
Grand Elder White robes with orange cuffs and collar 5.
Sect master Distinctive patterns reserved for the sect master; Feng Qi immediately objects when he sees Lou Sheng, a Golden Core cultivator, wearing them 1213.

All disciples except Laborer Disciples are required to wear sect uniforms 10.

The counterpart Azure Tide Sect in the other Azure Realm uses the same robes as the original sect. This allows Chu Luohen to appear as an ordinary Outer Gate disciple during a formation contest without his clothing arousing suspicion 1042.

Loyalty and Internal Vulnerabilities

Ning Hai’s response to Outer Gate discontent makes dissatisfied disciples choose whether to stay or leave before the situation develops into a larger crisis. Bai Su and her associates depart, preventing the twenty-year buildup of resentment that Su Jiu remembers from her previous life 74 75.

The Heavenly Devil Palace’s spy network succeeds in bribing one True Disciple, but her limited authority yields few secrets. Gong Hao nevertheless considers the sect’s Foundation Establishment disciples a serious threat 147.

Later crises expose more serious fractures. A sect operation against Demonic Cultivators is anticipated and reversed by the enemy, producing the sect’s first casualties in that phase of the conflict and raising concerns about betrayal 1881. Long Kuo and Bei Kui, identified as demon-seed hosts discovered by Feng Qi and Ning Fan, leave the sect and publicly portray their expulsion as persecution. The former Grand Elder joins them 1901 1902.

The sect’s continued existence is distinguished from the survival of its buildings. Even after its premises are razed, its members insist that it has neither perished nor disbanded 1919 1936.

External Relationships

  • Su Lineage — Affiliated household dependent on sect protection, root testing, and cultivation methods; supplies recruits including Su Jiu and Su Mianmian 2 4 5.
  • Bai Lineage — Protected lineage whose head swears a heart-demon oath never to betray the sect after Bai Sha’s outburst exposes contact with the Heavenly Dawn Sect 4.
  • Heavenly Dawn Sect — Approaches the Bai Household, making its loyalty to Azure Tide Sect a matter of concern. Later described as Azure Tide Sect’s strongest rival, with peaceful but unfriendly relations in earlier generations. It pays compensation and apologizes over Huang Feng’s actions, shelters former Azure Tide disciples, and repeatedly participates in hostile schemes 4 75 77 762 820.
  • Heavenly Secret Sect — Maintains friendly relations and requests aid through Hongguang. Answers the anti-demonic call, develops close ties between Personal Disciples, and remains an ally during the later crisis despite accusations that it has become subordinate to Azure Tide Sect 129 327 1572 1888 1919.
  • Jade Sword Sect — Answers the sect’s anti-demonic call and later shares an alliance with it. Its members investigate Azure Tide Sect’s destruction after surviving their own siege 327 1919.
  • Medicine Gate — Answers the earlier anti-demonic call and later joins an alliance, but suspicions surround its conduct during the Demon Realm crisis. Azure Tide Sect seniors warn allies against revealing too much information to it 327 1888 1919.
  • Heavenly Music Pavilion — Answers the anti-demonic call. Its disciples remember Xia Jue’s performance at a Grand Tournament a century earlier and regard Azure Tide Sect’s Personal Disciples as formidable opponents 161 327.
  • Mystic Dharma Immortal Sect — Another major Daoist sect that answers Azure Tide Sect’s call; its cultivators also encounter Azure Tide disciples at Liu Household Village 163 222 327.
  • Elysium Valley — Refuses Ning Hai’s invitation to join the anti-demonic campaign. Some members nevertheless regard harming high-standing Azure Tide disciples as dangerously provocative 327 427.
  • Misty Immortal Sect — Its relocation and the Liu Household affair create tensions. It still sends congratulations after Ning Hai reaches Spirit Severing; later reports describe an attack by its cultivators on Su Jiu and Chu Luohen 474 617.
  • Liu Household — Attempts to reclaim Liu Xing’er and the sect manuals she uses. Sect leaders refuse, and Chu Mojin produces a recording implicating her in collusion with a Demonic Cultivator 200.
  • Water Moon School — Becomes the subject of Enforcement Hall investigation. Ning Fan captures Sha Zilai, its leader’s third Personal Disciple, while Xia Jue, Ning Fan, and Feng Qi later pursue a specific mission involving the school rather than merely seizing its resources 617 848.
  • Night-Gathering Sect — Zhang Heng sends a Feathered Demon Beast to attack and delay Azure Tide Sect’s Flying Boat, motivated by resentment toward the sect and a desire to please Ming Yun. The beast dies, and his decision exposes divisions within his own delegation 751.
  • Vast Righteousness Sect — Its founder was influenced by Azure Tide Sect after its sect master saved his life. Its later leadership becomes an adversary: Ning Hai exposes three disciples’ scheme with a Recording Stone and requires Xia Yun to apologize for injuring Enforcement Hall members 1277 1411.
  • Flowing Radiance Sword Sect — Its nearby presence contributes to Azure Tide Sect’s favorable defensive situation during the invasion. It later survives a separate demon siege and helps investigate the destruction of Azure Tide Sect’s premises 1797 1919.
  • Rogue Cultivator Alliance — Provides entry places to the Far North Secret Realm, but relations with rogue cultivator organizations later deteriorate. Some alliances are blacklisted after attacking the sect, and later attempts to regain favor through gifts are selectively rejected 412 1969 1973.
  • Demonic cultivators — Kill investigating disciples, prey on Outer Gate members, and provoke security patrols. Deputy Envoy Zuo warns that the sect’s senior protectors make direct retaliation impractical. Later mount a full-scale invasion while major sects are weakened by secret-realm commitments 17 34 37 38 1797.
  • Protected cultivation clans — Numerous clans that have long benefited from the sect’s protection actively assist when the invasion threatens it 1797.

Counterpart Sect in the Other Azure Realm

Identity and Origin

Su Jiu awakens in another organization calling itself the Azure Tide Sect. Its disciples do not recognize her or Ice Veil Peak, despite its familiar arrangement of buildings, gardens, and disciple residences. The surrounding energy includes innate origin qi, leading her to suspect that she is in a different Azure Realm 1018.

The counterpart’s best-known Personal Disciples are Chong Mo, Lou Sheng, and Ye Wanqing. Like the original sect, it is comparatively weaker in pill, artifact, formation, and talisman crafting. It also maintains a bitter rivalry with that world’s Heavenly Dawn Sect 1041 1042 1055.

Feng Qi later states that its founding ancestor was an Inner Gate disciple of the original Azure Tide Sect ten thousand years earlier, establishing the basis for treating it as a branch 1213.

Collapse and Survival

Chong Mo discovers evidence connecting the slaughter of his lineage to Azure Tide Sect. Sect Master Jiang of the Heavenly Dawn Sect offers to help him exact revenge while seeking the sect’s complete disbandment. The resulting attack devastates the sect and kills True Lord Pinglan, who gives Lou Sheng his thumb ring, appoints him sect master, and entrusts Ye Wanqing to him 1126.

After Chong Mo and Ye Wanqing disappear, Lou Sheng unsuccessfully seeks Ye Wanqing’s return from the Heavenly Dawn Sect. Subsequent persecution targets Azure Tide disciples outside their premises, with attackers offering to spare anyone who leaves the sect. Many depart; Lou Sheng designates those who remain as elite disciples 1126.

The Heavenly Dawn Sect’s plundering and recruitment strengthen it while the counterpart Azure Tide Sect declines. Nevertheless, Lou Sheng refuses to disband. The Yun Sisters remain loyal because their family has enjoyed the sect’s protection for generations, and Su Jiu secretly helps them when they are attacked 1112 1113 1115.

Before its core members enter the Hongsheng Heavenly Road, the sect recalls junior disciples from outside training to prevent further persecution and assigns responsibilities for the group’s absence 1148.

Merger

After the continents merge, Feng Qi insists that the two Azure Tide Sects cannot remain separate. Lou Sheng accepts an elder position, a separate peak for his disciples, and access to the original sect’s resources and methods. Disciples with better alternatives are permitted to leave 1213.

Feng Qi frames the merger as fulfilling True Lord Pinglan’s charge to secure the disciples’ future rather than abandoning the responsibility attached to the sect-master position. Ye Wanqing also urges Lou Sheng to relinquish the robes, and he accepts the terms for his disciples’ sake 1213.

Demon Realm Crisis and Reconstruction

Event Sect involvement
Full-scale demonic invasion Secret-realm reinforcements have reduced its available strength, but protected clans offer help and the nearby Flowing Radiance Sword Sect improves its defensive position. The sect responds promptly and brings the situation under control 1797.
Manpower dispute Leaders debate whether to withdraw personnel from the Cold Pool Secret Realm to defend their own sect. Hong Ling forcefully opposes continuing to expend manpower without regard for internal needs 1797.
Return of ancestral elders Long-absent seniors return amid the crisis, producing a much larger and more intimidating assembly in Heavenly Origin Hall 1857.
Reversed operation and casualties Demonic opponents avoid a planned trap and turn it against the sect, causing its first casualties in this phase of the conflict and exposing the danger of internal betrayal 1881.
Senior defections and slander Long Kuo and Bei Kui circulate accusations against the sect after leaving it; the former Grand Elder joins them. The two are identified as demon-seed hosts previously discovered by Feng Qi and Ning Fan 1901 1902.
Mountain-gate confrontation Attackers damage the sect’s name tablet and blame it for Xia Jue and the Demon Realm crisis. Hong Ling exposes their fear of confronting Xia Jue directly and their desire to plunder the sect’s treasury 1901 1902 1903.
Formation defense Ning Fan confronts the attackers and exposes the Grand Elder among them. The sect’s protective formation and killing array inflict heavy losses, while several elders watch the accumulating blood energy with concern 1903.
Destruction discovered Allied sects later investigate and find Azure Tide Sect’s premises razed, with no remaining signs of its disciples. Their own simultaneous sieges had prevented timely awareness and assistance 1919.
Members reappear The Fifth Elder and other Azure Tide cultivators appear at the Medicine Gate. Witnesses also report seeing its disciples in cities containing large concentrations of demonic beasts 1920.
Protected allied forces Su Mianmian’s protection keeps Azure Tide Sect and the other three sects from suffering serious injuries while hostile rogue cultivators sustain devastating losses 1926.
Rejection of disbandment claims In confrontation with Bei Kui, the sect’s survival is explicitly affirmed: it has never perished or disbanded 1936.
Cleansing the Sect Su Jiu condemns Bei Kui’s demon-seed corruption and acts with Chu Luohen, declaring that she will cleanse the sect on behalf of Azure Tide Sect and righteous cultivators 1937.
Postwar rebuilding After the great battle, reconstruction becomes the disciples’ foremost priority. Ning Fan, now sect master, accepts aid selectively and excludes those who previously attacked the sect 1969.
Later diplomacy Former enemies and opportunistic allies seek renewed favor through gifts. Su Mianmian accepts some and rejects others; the sect remains powerful, but its members recognize that much external goodwill depends on perceived strength and profit 1973.

The original mountain-gate defense is viewed through a recording rather than witnessed directly by Su Jiu. The recording shows the strength of the protective formation and the elders’ concern over blood energy, but does not itself fully explain the subsequent reversal that leaves the premises destroyed 1903 1919.

After reconstruction begins, some disciples are uncomfortable with the sudden enthusiasm of outside helpers because they remember the extensive hostility directed at them during the Demon Realm’s descent 1969.

Earlier Internal Crisis

Sun Dongdong secretly retains a Heretical Cultivator’s Storage Bag instead of properly disposing of harmful contents. His subsequent betrayal brings disgrace to the sect, and Ning Hai issues a Wanted Notice for him and the Demonic Cultivator throughout the Azure Realm 56.

The Fourth Elder’s foundations are damaged in the associated battle, ending his prospects for further advancement. His Senior Disciple leaves out of shame and a sense of responsibility for Sun Dongdong’s conduct. The elder’s later travels seek both his wayward grandson and the return of that disciple. The crisis also leads to the restriction on exceptionally talented disciples choosing masters before Foundation Establishment 56.

Previous-Life and Original-Book Events

Su Jiu remembers the sect’s leaders and senior members as family from her previous life. Although they had disagreements, they could set grievances aside and fight together when the sect faced hardship 8.

In the original-book storyline, a Recording Stone captured Gong Hao extracting Su Mianmian’s Life-Bound Treasure, prompting the sect to hunt him. After Su Jiu’s death, the sect leader’s two Personal Disciples uncovered Bai Su’s connection to Gong Hao and issued an arrest warrant. Bai Su and her companions escaped into a secret realm; at that point in her recollections, Su Jiu did not know whether the sect eventually found them or what became of it afterward 25 37 50.

Su Jiu also recalls an Outer Gate crisis that took twenty years to develop. Nearly half the Outer Gate disciples left, accompanied by some Inner Gate disciples who carried away wealth belonging to the sect. Her actions in the current timeline prompt an earlier resolution before loyalties deteriorate to that extent 75.

Xia Jue later gives a different, more fundamental explanation for the sect’s previous decline: he himself became a traitor despite being its Chief Disciple, making the sect vulnerable to attack and destruction by other sects. He states that Bai Su contributed to the decline but was not its principal cause, and that Cloudmist Peak’s elders could not have prevented it against the Gray-Clothed Man’s power 1891.
