Background / History
True identity and right-leg injury
Lu Zun was originally Liu Zheng Xuan, one of Zhong Yi’s sons, rather than the actual head of the Lu family. Qin Yiguan first exposed this deception while investigating Zhong Yi after the Leviathan incident; a later journey twenty-one years into the past confirmed it 208 359.
During that journey, Qin encountered Liu Zheng Xuan before he had awakened Absolute Hit. Liu attempted to draw a beam pistol, but Qin disarmed him and shattered his right lower leg. Qin deliberately left him alive to preserve their future confrontation, subsequently realizing that he himself had caused Lu Zun’s need for a mechanical leg 359.
Longevity schemes
Lu Zun claimed to have spent thirty years building the Longevity Society. Facing the disappearance of his virtual body, he sought a 100% Fusion Rate and the possibility of continued existence within the Metaverse. He stated that his real-world body was 136 years old, although later revelations established that the aged body Qin had associated with him was a dummy modeled after Zhong Yi 119 125 208.
Before the Leviathan Project, he implanted a plan to destroy B6 into Zheng Yong of the Progress Bureau and another plan to poison two million people into Luo Canlie. Both attempts failed. Although he publicly claimed that the CPH4 mastermind had controlled him, he privately maintained that he had merely pretended to be controlled to escape suspicion 125.
Twelve years before the main confrontation, Lu Zun also targeted Qin Yiguan’s adoptive parents, Gemini executives who refused to cooperate with him. He implanted an order in six-year-old Qin to stab them, but the attempt backfired: Lu Zun lost control of his own body and inflicted a forty-centimeter knife wound on his chest 200 201 202.
Appearance
- Build and face: Burly, with a stern, resolute or dignified square face; his virtual appearance is described as approximately sixty years old, with graying temples 92 119 128.
- Clothing: Usually wears a black or gray Zhongshan suit. For public ceremonies, his hair and clothing are meticulously arranged 42 128 185 186.
- Right leg: Uses a mechanical prosthesis and sometimes walks with a limp 119 125.
- Chest scar: Bears a healed scar roughly forty centimeters long, caused by the backlash from his childhood attack on Qin Yiguan 178 180 202.
Personality
Lu Zun cultivates the image of an incorruptible public servant. He tells Jiu Zhengxuan to expose wrongdoing, publicly refuses special privileges for him, and presents the Youth Order Squad as proof of his commitment to restoring order. Behind the scenes, he explicitly plans how media coverage of the squad’s victories will strengthen both his son’s reputation and his own 42 128 144.
His overriding motivation is survival. He declares that everything has meaning only with eternal life and treats sixty million residents as expendable material for his advancement. He is not satisfied with killing them quickly: he wants their deaths preceded by terror, pain, and despair to maximize his chances of increasing his Fusion Rate 143.
His apparent paternal affection is conditional on obedience. Once Jiu Zhengxuan questions him, Lu Zun declares him useless and attempts to replace him. Yet after his defeat, he invokes their father–son relationship and begs Jiu to save him 191 204.
Abilities & Skills
Absolute Hit
His Reality Enhancement turns objects into projectiles directed toward designated targets. Qin Yiguan later perceives its operation as “directional code,” comparable to specifying a file’s destination 119 196.
- Relentless pursuit: A steel shard thrown at the Three-Legged Cat continues gaining on the aircraft even after it exceeds half the speed of light. Jingye Meinan identifies it as an attack that pursues its target until it hits 92.
- Improvised weapons: Uses a handkerchief, a discarded syringe, alloy balls, and concealed alloy cones as lethal projectiles 120 189 196.
- Living projectiles: Can launch other people by touching them, including throwing the secretary-general into the Leviathan Rift and flinging Qin Yiguan away 143 196.
- Self-propulsion: Applies the ability to his own body for rapid retreat and to resist being drawn toward the rift 180 196.
- Directed strikes: Applies Absolute Hit to his hand to pierce Qin Yiguan’s chest and seize his heart 196.
- Limits: Qin identifies physical contact with a projectile as a prerequisite. Destroying Lu Zun’s limbs prevents his usual physical attacks, though he subsequently remains capable of transmitting a memory 198 200 207.
- Counters: Absolute Hit does not guarantee penetration: Qin’s enhanced defenses break Lu Zun’s fingers. Qin also copies its code and counters his alloy-cone attack 196.
Thought Projection
Absolute Hit can “throw” information and thoughts, not merely physical objects. Lu Zun implants instructions that recipients experience as their own desires 125.
- Covert control: Orders Xu Guan and others to conceal Leviathan and accelerate its growth 125.
- Large-scale obedience: Controls the soldiers at the super train ceremony, preventing them from arresting him 188.
- Compelled suicide: Commands Qin Yiguan to walk north and jump into the Leviathan Rift 178 179.
- Limitations: Highly knowledgeable targets can resist effective control; an incoherently implanted thought may instead leave them mindless 201.
- Backlash: His attack on the six-year-old Qin rebounds into self-mutilation. Later, Victim overwhelms him with suicidal despair, forcing him to use Absolute Hit on his own body to stay away from the abyss 180 202.
Memory Projection
Lu Zun weaponizes memories through Absolute Hit, using Yi Zheng Xuan’s preserved brain as a repository 192.
- Mass psychological attack: Sends traumatic memories into the crowd, while UM-3 helps extend the targeting across B5 and B6 192 193.
- Personal transmission: Sends Qin Yiguan his own memory of the childhood assassination attempt 200.
- Vulnerability: Qin’s allies overwrite Yi Zheng Xuan’s stored material with Teacher Qing’s memories. Lu Zun unknowingly broadcasts the altered material, exposing Teacher Qing’s sacrifice and restoring his memory 192 194.
Particle Surveillance
Lu Zun describes surrounding his residence with hundreds of millions of three-micron carbon particles, each pursuing the next in a closed loop 152.
- Intruder detection: Claims that disturbances in the particles’ trajectories reveal an intruder’s outline and exact appearance 152.
- Visual reconstruction: Uses suspended sand to display Qin Yiguan’s likeness and accuse him of murdering Auntie Lan. Qin later attributes the murder to one of Jiu Zhengxuan’s lookalike brothers 152 159.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Mechanical right leg — Replaces the leg shattered by the time-traveling Qin Yiguan; destroyed during their final battle 198 359.
- Portable smartbrain — Projects surveillance footage of Chen Mudou during Lu Zun’s attempt to undermine her confidence 190.
- Remote-targeting module — Attached to Jiu Zhengxuan’s superbrain; lets Lu Zun sense his activities, lock onto targets, and provide attacks from afar 128.
- Alloy projectiles — Small metal balls and concealed cones used for targeted attacks against Qin Yiguan and others 189 196.
- Memory archives — Funds more than one hundred across B5 and B6 under an educational pretext; their hidden collections support the traumatic-memory attack 143 172 192.
- Yi Zheng Xuan’s glass case — Houses the living brain from which he draws stored memories 192.
- Dark matter inducer and super train — His scientists develop an inducer that accelerates Leviathan’s expansion and directs its emergence; the train carries it toward Core Earth 185 189.
Relationships
- Zhong Yi — Biological father and the hidden figure behind the Lu Zun incident. Lu Zun’s identity as Liu Zheng Xuan links him directly to Zhong Yi’s family 208 359.
- Jiu Zhengxuan — Publicly his only son and heir, but actually another of Zhong Yi’s sons. Lu Zun confines him for eighteen years, appoints him Youth Order Squad captain, and exploits his faith in justice. Jiu ultimately refuses to save him 42 44 204 208 359 389.
- Qin Yiguan — Intended assassin, scapegoat, principal opponent, and eventual killer. Lu Zun first attacks his mind when he is six; the adult Qin later dismantles the Leviathan Project 189 200 204.
- Yi Zheng Xuan — Presented as another son; his body withers during confinement, leaving a brain that Lu Zun uses to store and distribute memories 190 192.
- Second Zheng Xuan — Loyal substitute whom Lu Zun selects to replace Jiu Zhengxuan as Youth Order Squad captain 191.
- Wu Zheng Xuan / Lu Guang — Another son of Zhong Yi, making him Lu Zun’s brother under their original identities 356 359.
- Jiao Shensan and Jiaolong — Jiaolong blames Lu Zun for her adoptive father’s death and seeks revenge. Qin later invokes Jiao Shensan’s copied consciousness while executing Lu Zun 140 204.
- Mu Qingkuang / Teacher Qing — Victim of the scheme to harvest traumatic memories; the memory attack ultimately exposes his sacrifice and restores his memory 172 194.
- Chen Mudou / Magician — Considered his foremost threat to the Leviathan Project. He secretly records her and attacks her belief in Jiang Mingshu rather than initially risking direct combat 190.
- Xu Guan — Scientist controlled through an implanted thought; killed once Lu Zun considers him expendable 125 189.
- UM-3 and Mang Zhong — Allies who help confine the population and prevent escape during the Leviathan operation 188 189 192.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Establishing the Youth Order Squad
Lu Zun approves Jiu Zhengxuan’s proposal for a Youth Order Squad and appoints him captain of Squad 01, with authority to mobilize forces in B5 and B6. Huo Shuang and Wei Hu become its other founding members 42 44.
After the failed mission to protect Jiao Shensan, Lu Zun directs the squad toward criminal organizations and the Abnormal Log-in User. He presents the latter as an ideal first major victory and authorizes Jiu to return with the target’s corpse if necessary 128.
He later identifies Qin as Auntie Lan’s killer through a particle reconstruction, provoking Jiu to declare war on the Dog Gang’s Hall 157. Qin’s investigation instead points toward the lookalike Zheng Xuan brothers 152 159.
Preparing the Leviathan Project
Lu Zun intends to use Leviathan to kill sixty million people and force his Fusion Rate from 96% to 100%. The archives supply the psychological component: horrific memories intended to make those deaths maximally agonizing 143 172 192.
After Qin uncovers the archive near 053 High School, Lu Zun destroys it and orders Qin to commit suicide in the rift. Qin returns as Victim, whose despair nearly drives Lu Zun into the abyss instead 178 180 207.
Exposure at the Super Train Ceremony
Qin interrupts the inauguration and accuses Lu Zun of hiding Leviathan beneath the railway. His initial attempt to expose the rift fails, but Jingye Meinan subsequently arrives with intelligence gathered by the Beauty Group and River Phoenix Society 186 187.
Lu Zun then abandons his public façade. With soldiers under his control and UM-3 enclosing the sectors, he reveals his intention to destroy B5 and B6, frame others, and eventually reclaim his reputation. He kills Xu Guan and the deputy commander, then names Qin as his new scapegoat 188 189.
Defeat and Death
Lu Zun’s memory attack backfires because Qin’s allies have altered Yi Zheng Xuan’s stored memories. Teacher Qing recovers, while Qin survives repeated lethal attacks, copies Absolute Hit, and destroys Lu Zun’s limbs 192 194 195 196 198.
Even after his allies fall, Lu Zun insists that Leviathan will complete the destruction. Qin defeats the threat, and Jiaolong seals the rift. Jiu Zhengxuan then reveals that the body Lu Zun shot was a Black Room likeness and refuses his plea for rescue 191 199 204.
Qin kills Lu Zun with planks taken from the stage, naming Jiao Shensan, Teacher Qing, Chen Mudou, and Jiu Zhengxuan among those he is avenging 204.
