Personality

Dongfang Yuejian is initially reserved and easily embarrassed. She struggles to ask Xu Taiping whether she may hold Ping’an and later blushes under public attention even while defending Xu Taiping from insults. With familiar companions, her demure aristocratic manner gives way to a lively, teasing side 779 848 2472.

Her kindness is particularly evident around spirit beasts. She takes in elderly spirit pets abandoned by others and deliberately suppresses her spiritual-energy fluctuations while holding Ping’an. She also shows consideration for people helping her: when Xu Taiping initially cannot offer a solution to her curse, she asks her mother not to pressure him 779 796.

She is decisive about risking her own life but reluctant to let companions endanger themselves. During the defense of Jiaye Temple, she refuses to release her formation despite repeated injuries to her divine soul, reminding herself of Xuanzhi’s sacrifices and Xu Taiping’s protection 2144 2157 2158.

Her central ambition is to travel rather than accumulate power for its own sake. Inspired by Dongfang Daoyuan, she cultivates so that she can safely witness dangerous landscapes and the lives of people throughout the world. She initially fears this makes her frivolous; Xu Taiping instead praises her for knowing why she cultivates 2075.

Years of experience also make her more discerning. Xu Taiping notices that her reasoning has become meticulous enough to compare favorably with that of much older cultivators. Her caution does not prevent generosity: after initially opposing Gu Yu’s early contact with the Spirit Bone Stele, she sincerely congratulates him when it brings him a great opportunity 2020 2434.

An Origin Law inheritance that allows Dongfang Yuejian to create manifestations through writing and painting. With sufficient divine soul power, she describes its scope as creating “all things and all arts” within the limits of the world’s Heavenly Dao Edict 796 2059.

History

Golden Scale Assembly

Dongfang Yuejian enters the Golden Scale Assembly partly to obtain a particular treasure from Youyun Pavilion. Although she initially conceals her strength, her grasp of true intent is recognized, and she later reveals painted immortal armaments against Gongshu Bai 741 744 841.

Her friendship with Xu Taiping begins through Ping’an. Drawing on her household’s spirit-beast business, she offers to arrange affordable Transformation Pills for Ping’an and Bai Yu and gives Xu Taiping a Jade Jue directing him to the Dongfang residence 779.

Against Mo Yachu, Bifang’s cries disrupt her mind so severely that she forgets she can concede. She injures her own ears to gain a brief respite, then commits her remaining power to killing the bird. Her manifestations—including Xu Taiping’s phantom—keep her alive long enough for her eventually to concede, frustrating Mo Yachu’s attempt to kill her 787 788 789.

Seven-Kill Tribulation Curse

After someone places a Seven-Kill Tribulation Curse on her, Dongfang Yuejian and her mother seek Xu Taiping’s help. Her family knows the culprit but cannot act against that person for three to five years. The danger also concerns the sect behind her because her death would threaten the inheritance of One Stroke Opens Heaven 796.

The curse exposes betrayal within the household. Dongfang Gulu, supposedly sent to protect her, poisons Yuejian and Su Qingtan and arranges assassins to kill them. Xu Taiping anticipates the ambush and has his Mysterious Origin Avatar eliminate the assassins 839.

During the sixth tribulation, she accompanies Xu Taiping into Youyun Pavilion. After obtaining the Immortal Carp Basket and Dew-Refining Disc, she mistakenly summons the Cold Sky Pearl instead of the Frost-Heaven Pearl. The hostile pearl unleashes a chill capable of freezing divine souls 841 842 844.

Fear of her curse subsequently leaves the Dongfang party expelled from its inn and refused shelter and transport throughout the Imperial Capital. Yuejian offers to leave alone rather than implicate everyone. Xu Taiping instead arrives in a Bronze Chariot to accompany her and Su Qingtan, having resolved to take her to Cloud-Hidden Temple to seek a cure 852.

Supporting Xu Taiping and Guarding the Stele

Dongfang Yuejian later answers a call to help Xu Taiping in a tower battle. Although she attempts to bring more people, she is the only Dongfang Household member who successfully climbs the tower. Her ability to use One Stroke Opens Heaven there makes her a valuable prospective counter to powerful ghost creatures 1211.

She spends years guarding the Dragon-Slaying Stele, a service Xu Taiping explicitly acknowledges. During this period, she and Xuanzhi also become targets of Ningchan Cave cultivators; Xu Taiping encounters them after three days of fighting puppet-controlled attackers 2007 2008 2019.

By the time she explains her plans for the Dragon-Slaying Assembly, her parents have been in the Upper Realm for ten years. Her mother continues sending messages that supply Yuejian with information about events there 2017.

Wilderness Expedition and Jiaye Temple

Yuejian insists on joining Xu Taiping’s Wilderness Expedition so that their shared ordeals will qualify him to accompany her to the Dragon-Slaying Assembly five years later. She needs a top-three finish for a chance to reach Outer Heaven and reunite with her mother and others. Xu Taiping accepts her Same-Boat Chain and agrees to travel with her 2019.

Throughout the journey, she supplies combat support, healing, and research into unfamiliar threats. Ningchan Cave’s attacks repeatedly leave her injured and poisoned, while the confrontation with Su Yan exhausts her divine soul power so completely that Xu Taiping must extract her through the Dragon-Trapping Tower 2048 2051 2059 2075 2085.

At Jiaye Temple, the Wish-Fulfilling Treasure Basin answers her request for an implement suited to One Stroke Opens Heaven with the Spring and Autumn Brush. She promises to retrieve Jiaye Hall’s main beam from Moon-Breaking Cave and later obtains the brush 2106 2107 2124.

She helps defend the temple while Xu Taiping prepares for his breakthrough, destroying numerous Demon Bones. Against stronger enemies, however, her formation suffers repeated damage and soul backlash. Despite Madam Lu’s attempts to make her abandon it, she continues holding Spring and Autumn and the Thunder Sound Banner 2136 2142 2157 2158.

Household Leadership and the Dragon-Slaying Assembly

Yuejian inherits the position of household head from her mother, but initially lacks consistent support from the clan’s senior branches. When Xu Taiping is endangered in the Wilderness, she is willing to spend three years of household earnings on the Grand Teleportation Array to reach him, despite the risk that other branches will use the expenditure to force her resignation 2328 2355.

Her Same-Boat Chain produces sword light reaching 2,100 zhang, exceeding the previous recent-assembly high of 1,800 zhang and earning double grade A qualification. Before entering the Immortal Burial Ruins, she secures promises from the clan elders to restrain their descendants and prevent internal trouble while her team competes for the Chief’s seat 2340 2355.

Within the ruins, she fights beside Gu Yu in the Underground River Passage, seals their route with talismans, and develops Immortal Talisman-level techniques. She also handles dealings with Chenglong Heaven’s aristocratic cultivators and tests Gu Yu’s blade at Xu Taiping’s request 2414 2431 2438 2467 2474.

Confronting the Demon Dragon

After learning that the Demon Dragon has destroyed the Nine Abysses’ army, Yuejian refuses to withdraw. She argues that retreating after everything they have endured could become a Heart Demon 2613.

Because she has the weakest physical strength in the party and the Dragon Domain suppresses spells, the initial plan places her at the rear to coordinate, heal, and replenish magical power. She later brings a Xingtian manifestation into battle, ultimately entering it after dotting its eye with Spring and Autumn 2614 2615 2624 2626.

After the expedition, she offers to use the household’s resources to seek leads on the Purple Mansion Pill and Azure Void Fruit. She also contacts the Ranking Spirit so the recovered team can return to redeem its rewards 2647.

Travels with Xu You and Return to the Ghost Domain

Before leaving for the Land of Chaos, Xu Taiping entrusts his Lower Realm clone to Yuejian and Xuanzhi. Yuejian agrees to take the clone traveling through the Lower Realm, fulfilling both Xu Taiping’s wish that it experience mortal life and her own longstanding desire to see the world 2696.

She accompanies the clone, Xu You, through famous mountains, rivers, and secret realms across the Five Heavens. At every destination, he sounds a sword cry and stores a sword. She later calls these travels the happiest time of her life 3578 3579.

When ghost creatures destroy the village where Xu You lives, she honors his request not to intervene in his final fight, despite nearly breaking down. After finding his torn body, she unleashes “Heaven’s Execution, Earth’s Annihilation!” 3461 3462.

Although pursued and badly injured by Great Ghosts, Yuejian heads to the Pure Yang Sword Sect to deliver Xu You’s belongings to Xu Taiping. With less than half her fighting strength remaining, she cannot help force open the Ghost Domain passage, but asks to accompany those going through it. She cautiously reveals the clone’s existence because its experiences and cultivation concern Xu Taiping’s Great Dao 3539 3573.

After reaching Xu Taiping, she explains Xu You’s death and the swords stored throughout the Five Heavens. Their conversation resolves an emotional burden for her, clearing her Dao Heart. As the stored swords begin to answer Xu Taiping, she reassures Bai Yu and Ping’an that the Demon Mother cannot prevail against him in his present state 3578 3579 3580.
