Background / History

Birth and Family

Qian Daoliu was born to Qian Xiye and Yang Youxue in Spirit City, late one night at the end of October. Qian Chongling sustained the dying Qian Bufan with medical treatment and divine power so he could live until the child’s birth. As the infant’s cries sounded, Qian Bufan died with a smile, and Qian Chongling named the boy Qian Daoliu in accordance with Bufan’s wishes 13.

Qian Xunji’s Upbringing

By Qian Xunji’s sixth birthday, Qian Daoliu was a level 99 Peerless Douluo. Having fathered his son late in life, he openly justified spoiling him. Qian Chongling criticized both his neglect of the Clear Sky Sect and his satisfaction with Xunji’s training, warning that a poorly trained level 95 angel soul master could still lose to a newly promoted Titled Douluo 14.

Qian Daoliu personally conducted Xunji’s martial-soul awakening. Although the boy inherited the Six-Winged Angel, his innate soul power was only level eight—below every previous recorded awakening of that martial soul in the family. Qian Daoliu threatened anyone who disclosed the result with death and ordered the elders to announce level-ten innate soul power instead 15.

Qian Chongling’s Cenotaph

When Qian Chongling announced plans to travel the continent and mentioned returning his ashes if he died, Qian Daoliu interpreted the remark as a farewell from an ancestor nearing the end of his lifespan. Eight years without a return convinced him that Qian Chongling had died 14 32.

With the Worship Hall’s support, Qian Daoliu arranged to bury his ancestor’s clothes and erect a cenotaph in Douluo Hall. The monument identified Qian Chongling as Spirit Hall’s eighth-generation ancestor and ninth Pope. Qian Chongling was still alive and later discovered the gravestone, furious at having been declared dead 32.

Soul Master Tournament

Qian Daoliu presided over the Continental Advanced Soul Master Tournament at Spirit City, announced its three-Soul-Bone prize, and opened the championship finals. During the event, he briefly spotted Qian Chongling in the stands but dismissed the sighting as an illusion because he believed his ancestor had died years earlier 42 43.

He recognized that Skywater Academy’s lineup posed a serious challenge to Spirit Hall Academy. After Spirit Hall’s victory, he praised the champions, urged them to continue improving, and presented their rewards to team leader Zhao Changkong 43 44.

Appearance

  • Elderly appearance: Described as an old man who looks his age, returning to a decrepit appearance after withdrawing his martial soul 14 15.
  • Platinum-colored robe: Worn during Qian Xunji’s awakening ceremony 15.
  • Pale-gold ceremonial robes and scepter: Used for his public appearance at the tournament 42.

Personality

Qian Daoliu reveres Qian Chongling and worries that allowing his ancient ancestor to fight would disgrace the family if he died in the process. He insists that even doubts about Xunji’s parentage must never extend to their ancestor’s identity, striking his son when the boy questions it 14.

His indulgence toward Xunji coexists with harsh discipline and a willingness to conceal embarrassing family information. He considers spoiling his late-born son natural, dismisses Qian Chongling’s warning about inadequate training, and uses lethal threats to suppress the boy’s disappointing awakening result 14 15.
