Background / History

Capture and Forced Conversion

Ten years before her death, Lin Yan was captured by Evil Soul Masters who claimed she was one of them. When she refused to consume flesh and blood, they cut open her stomach and forced it inside. Despite being turned into an Evil Soul Master, she retained her kindness and resisted the practices associated with them 47.

She later became Luo Tian’s wife. Luo Tian, a Spirit Hall Soul Emperor, defended her as someone unlike other Evil Soul Masters and told his fellow disciples that he had never seen her consume flesh and blood during their relationship 45 47.

Flight from Spirit Hall

After more than a year on the run, the pregnant Lin Yan and Luo Tian were cornered during a rainstorm by Jin Zhuan and four of his disciples. Lin Yan offered her own life in exchange for Luo Tian’s release. Sun Yan nevertheless attacked her, and Luo Tian pushed his wife aside and took the strike, suffering a shattered collarbone 45.

Jin Zhuan also tried to stop the attack because Lin Yan was pregnant. Spirit Hall’s policy allowed the execution of pregnant Evil Soul Masters to be postponed so their children could be born and assessed separately 45 46.

Childbirth and Death

When Lin Yan’s water broke, Li Xuemei arranged shelter in a cave outside Spirit City and assisted with the birth. The baby emerged feet-first, while exhaustion and declining vitality endangered both mother and child 46.

Luo Tian urged Lin Yan to drain his vitality through her martial soul. She initially refused, yielding only when he threatened to kill himself. His sacrifice restored enough of her strength for Li Xuemei to deliver their daughter, but he died within a few breaths 46.

During childbirth, Lin Yan transferred all her life force to the baby. Jin Zhuan recognized that she had little time left and invited her to express her final wishes. She asked that her daughter live as an ordinary person rather than become a Soul Master, then died. The group buried her and Luo Tian together 47.
