Background / History
Clan Origins and Estrangement
Yu Dashi was the son of Yu Yuanzhen, patriarch of the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan. His family expected him to help lead the clan to greater heights, but his mutated martial soul and inability to advance beyond level 29 made him a disappointment by the clan’s standards. Qian Chongling contrasts this judgment with commoners’ circumstances: becoming a level-29 Soul Master would already be an extraordinary achievement for most people 20 95 266.
His uncle, deputy patriarch Yu Luomian, formally expelled him and struck his name from the clan register. Despite that estrangement, Yu Tianheng later told him that his father and other family members missed him. Yu Dashi nevertheless refused to return until he had proved himself 95 351.
Spirit Hall Research and the Golden Iron Triangle
Yu Dashi interned at Spirit Hall’s Martial Soul Research Institute, where he met the diligent researcher Hongdou. He also copied Spirit Hall research materials; after the Golden Iron Triangle began making a name for itself, a mysterious soul master threatened him with death if he leaked those materials 161 163.
He formed the Golden Iron Triangle with Flender and Liu Erlong. Their combined martial soul fusion skill gave the otherwise weak Yu Dashi access to power capable of contending with a Titled Douluo 161 325.
Teaching Tang San
At Nuoding Junior Soul Master Academy, Yu Dashi described himself as a guest living on the academy’s hospitality rather than a faculty member. After examining Tang San’s awakening certificate, he inferred that the boy possessed a second martial soul and sought to make him his disciple as a means of proving his theories 147 148.
His authority was challenged when Su Yuntao exposed his fusion claims as already-established knowledge and his precise soul-ring age limits as misleading. Yu Dashi concealed the defeat from Tang San, then purchased two Soul Hunting Tokens for two hundred Gold Soul Coins each 165.
In the Soul Hunting Forest, Luo Sanpao failed to stop a nearly four-hundred-year-old Mandala Snake. After Tang San killed it, Yu Dashi recommended its ring to test Martial Soul Mimicry Theory. Both teacher and student briefly contemplated killing the other; Yu Dashi ultimately ordered Luo Sanpao to guard Tang San during absorption instead 169 170 171.
Shrek Academy and the Soul Master Tournament
Flender placed Yu Dashi in charge of Shrek Academy’s instruction. His initial stone-carrying exercise met resistance from Zhu Zhuqing, Oscar, and Ning Rongrong. He then nearly provoked a lethal attack by insulting Zhu Zhuqing’s teacher and insisting that her unusual soul rings proved she had squandered her talent 257.
During the Soul Master Tournament, Yu Dashi scouted rival teams and developed Shrek’s Seven-in-One technique after observing Blue Sunshine Academy. He presented it as the answer to the Galaxy Fleet’s overwhelming strength, allowing Tang San to briefly wield the Clear Sky True Body 312 321 323 348 349.
He also sought Bibi Dong’s method for cultivating twin martial souls. After an initial failure to obtain an audience, he borrowed Ning Fengzhi’s Pope Token and returned to the Papal Palace. Bibi Dong refused to help, threatened Tang San, and had Yu Dashi expelled. An unidentified woman subsequently beat him unconscious, leaving Tang Hao to find him and arrange treatment 350 351 352 353 354.
Shrek ultimately lost to Kurumi Tokisaki and was eliminated. During the confrontation that followed, Yu Dashi, Flender, and Liu Erlong formed the Golden Sacred Dragon to protect Tang San, but their fusion was shattered. Yu Dashi later witnessed Flender’s death during the reckoning over Shrek Academy’s crimes 441 448 450 456.
Slaughter City
Yu Dashi and Liu Erlong were sent to Slaughter City, where they reunited with Tang San. Yu Dashi initially wanted to remain in the Outer City and relied on Tang San’s hidden weapons for protection in a place where soul skills could not be used 465 472.
Bloody Mary unexpectedly enabled him to reach level 30. He asked Tang San to supply more of the drink and help both him and Liu Erlong leave through Hell Road. Both teachers obtained Divine Slaughter’s Domain, an outcome that provoked Tang San’s jealousy when he failed to receive it himself 475 484.
Heaven Dou Appointment and Death
Xue Qinghe appointed Yu Dashi to lead the Elite Soul Master Training Program at the former Blue Tyrant Academy. During the war with Star Luo, Yu Dashi promised to intensify training, offered to seek aid from his clan, and proposed mass-producing Tang San’s hidden weapons. Tang San regarded the resulting pressure to surrender his blueprints as a betrayal 509 513 515.
Tang San and Dai Mubai later returned to the training camp, claiming to have completed trials on Sea God Island. Once welcomed into Yu Dashi’s residence, they revealed that their next trials required their teachers’ lives. Tang San restrained Yu Dashi with blood-draining vines, accused him of ruining his Blue Silver Emperor, and assaulted him 561 562 563.
Their deaths are confirmed when Yu Yuanzhen and Yu Luomian visit graves bearing Yu Xiaogang’s and Liu Erlong’s names in Thunder Canyon. Yu Yuanzhen explicitly blames Tang San and vows revenge 569.
Appearance
- Face and expression: A stiff, often expressionless face, repeatedly described as corpse-like or zombie-like, with “dead-fish eyes” 95 171 257.
- Grooming: Patchy stubble, an unkempt appearance, and a crew cut 257 402.
- Clothing: Wears plain cloth clothing when visiting Spirit City 350.
- Characteristic posture: Frequently clasps his hands behind his back and raises his head to cultivate the bearing of an aloof expert 161 256 257.
Personality
Yu Dashi is intensely concerned with recognition and saving face. He considers himself the continent’s foremost theoretical authority and views Tang San’s success as the means to overturn the judgment that he is “trash.” He repeatedly rejects contradictory evidence, including successful soul-ring absorptions beyond his stated limits 147 256 258 312 346.
His confidence often depends on protection or status. He resumes boasting once Flender stops Zhu Zhuqing’s attack, flatters Tang Hao as his idol, and relies on a Pope Token to demand access to Bibi Dong. When confronted with force he cannot resist, he becomes cautious or submissive and conceals humiliations afterward 257 283 332 350 353 354.
His attachment to Tang San develops beyond his original desire for validation. He checks the boy for injuries, seeks help for his twin martial souls despite personal humiliation, declares him equivalent to a son, and participates in the Golden Sacred Dragon fusion to defend him. This devotion makes Tang San’s eventual betrayal especially severe 170 347 353 448 562.
Abilities & Skills
Luo Sanpao
Luo Sanpao manifests as a separate pig-like creature approximately a meter and a half long and equally wide. Yu Dashi initially uses it through two yellow soul rings 168.
- First soul skill: “Fart like thunder, Earth-Shattering Luo Sanpao!” Luo Sanpao inflates its belly, jumps and turns in midair, then fires yellow gas toward its target 621.
- Early attacks: Yu Dashi can unleash both initial soul skills consecutively, producing a thunderous fart and a cloud of yellow gas 169.
- Third soul skill: Produces intense snoring noise that disrupts enemies’ concentration. Its incantation is “Thunderous snores shake the skies, deadly demonic sounds seize the soul!” 562.
- Weakness: A nearly four-hundred-year-old Mandala Snake evades the initial combination and severely injures Luo Sanpao. Damage to the martial soul causes Yu Dashi to vomit blood and stagger 169.
Golden Sacred Dragon
The Golden Iron Triangle’s trinity martial soul fusion transforms Luo Sanpao into the Golden Sacred Dragon 448.
- Participants: Yu Dashi, Flender, and Liu Erlong form a golden triangular formation 448.
- Ring contribution: Yu Dashi supplies two rings, while Flender and Liu Erlong supply seven each, for sixteen total 448.
- Transformation: Luo Sanpao expands, develops golden scales, and releases a dragon roar 448.
- Power and limits: The fusion can contend with a Titled Douluo, but its destruction breaks the formation and severely injures all three participants 325 450.
Martial Soul Theory and Soul-Beast Knowledge
Yu Dashi teaches principles presented as the Ten Core Competencies of Martial Soul, including innate soul power, ring selection, and cross-category absorption 148.
| Subject | Teaching or application | Documented limitation |
|---|---|---|
| Martial Soul Mimicry Theory | Plant martial souls can absorb beast soul rings, and beast martial souls can absorb plant rings under suitable conditions. He applies this to Tang San’s Mandala Snake ring 148 170. | His selection is later criticized for wasting a ring on effects Tang San could obtain without that soul skill 193 563. |
| Soul-ring age limits | Teaches exact ceilings, including 764 years for a second ring and 1,760 years for a third 256. | Su Yuntao explains that absorption depends on physique and soul-beast strength; subsequent ring configurations repeatedly contradict Yu Dashi’s figures 165 256 322. |
| Twin martial soul cultivation | Advocates delaying the second martial soul so it can receive older rings later 256. | He does not possess the solution to conflicting soul power and must seek Bibi Dong’s help 347 353. |
| Soul-beast identification | Recognizes the Mandala Snake and teaches Tang San about beasts such as the Netherworld Vine 169 278. | Recognizing a beast does not mean he can defeat it; the Mandala Snake overwhelms Luo Sanpao 169. |
| Evil Soul Masters | Assumes an evil martial soul makes its wielder an Evil Soul Master 434. | This misunderstanding undermines his accusation against Qian Guangyue 433 434. |
Team Training and Combined Techniques
Yu Dashi directs Shrek’s training, studies opposing teams, and develops techniques intended to concentrate teammates’ strength into Tang San 257 321 347.
- Seven-in-One: Inspired by Blue Sunshine Academy’s technique; enables Tang San to briefly use the Clear Sky True Body before reaching Soul Saint 321 323 348 349.
- Reduced-member variants: Proposes Five-in-One and Six-in-One versions as additional tournament options 385.
- Opponent analysis: Uses dossiers, live scouting, and match recordings; his assessments sometimes require correction from better-informed students 263 312 405.
- Morale building: Repeatedly restores Tang San’s confidence by promising that combined techniques can overcome stronger opponents 323 385.
Divine Slaughter’s Domain
Yu Dashi obtains Divine Slaughter’s Domain after traveling Hell Road with Tang San’s assistance 484.
- He explains that clearing Hell Road can earn recognition from the domain and form one bound to the user’s martial soul 475.
- Tang San resents his success because Yu Dashi has killed far fewer people yet receives a domain while Tang San does not 484.
