Background / History
In his previous life, Tang San was an outer disciple of the Tang Sect. Over twenty years, he secretly learned the Mysterious Heaven Skill and created the Buddha’s Fury Tang Lotus. His patience and ability to conceal his intentions carried over into his life on the Douluo Continent 37 101.
Tang San retains his previous-life memories, allowing him to cultivate Tang Sect techniques and manufacture hidden weapons. Yu Xiaogang recognizes his potential and treats him as the means of proving his cultivation theories 5 27.
He is the son of Tang Hao and Ah Yin. Tang Yuehua directs him to the Clear Sky Sect, where he seeks recognition from his ancestral clan and presents two inherited soul bones formerly belonging to his father 73.
Tang San establishes a new Tang Sect on the Douluo Continent. Although he publicly frames it as a means of resisting Spirit Hall, the narration identifies his underlying ambition as becoming the true master of the sect he had served only as an outer disciple in his previous life 90 101.
Personality
The narration portrays Tang San as vain, hypocritical, and highly self-interested. Praise during his fight with Dai Mubai satisfies his pride, while his customary courtesy conceals a strong sense of superiority. Zhao Su’s overwhelming strength damages that confidence without extinguishing his determination to improve 4 5.
His defining strength is forbearance. When badly outmatched, he suppresses his anger, retreats, and preserves himself for a later opportunity. He does this after confrontations with Zhao Su, the loss of the immortal herbs, and his defeat by Hu Liena in Slaughter City 7 37 58.
His pragmatism extends to politics and personal relationships. He avoids breaking with the Clear Sky Sect because he still needs its support against Spirit Hall, prepares for the possible loss of Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect funding, and attempts to turn Oscar against Zhao Su 85 101.
After the Heaven Dou imperial coup, others observe that he becomes increasingly gloomy and vicious. His later actions include organizing attacks on outsiders in Ancient Ruins Mountain and betraying a temporary alliance with Yan’s group. Yu Tianheng subsequently suspects that Tang San’s consciousness may already have merged with the Sea God before entering the mountain 127 139 146 162.
Abilities & Skills
Blue Silver Grass / Blue Silver Emperor
Tang San’s plant martial soul provides restraining attacks and poisonous vines. Later passages identify it as the Blue Silver Emperor, although the supplied events do not show the transformation itself 5 58 92.
- Binding: Uses ghost vines against Zhao Su and Blue Silver Emperor vines to restrain Yang Wudi 5 92.
- Numbing poison: His ghost vines carry a poison that makes being caught in them dangerous 5.
- Potential resurrection application: Zhao Su preserves Tang San partly because he expects the Blue Silver Emperor Domain to help resurrect Ah Yin; this is a planned use, not a documented accomplishment 58.
Clear Sky Hammer
Tang San’s second martial soul is initially concealed. Tai Tan’s pressure forces him to reveal it publicly, prompting the Strength Clan chief to kneel before him 27 43.
- Disorder Splitting Wind Hammer: Combines this secret Clear Sky Sect technique with Divine Slaughter’s Domain; his ninety-first strike shatters Xue Qinghe’s Angel Domain 104.
- Divine enhancement: Temporarily receives eight Hundred Thousand Year soul rings from the Sea God 153.
- Twin-soul restriction: His two martial souls must be used separately, unlike Zhao Su’s fusible martial souls 10.
Mysterious Heaven Skill
A cultivation method retained from his previous life, the Mysterious Heaven Skill helps compensate for Blue Silver Grass’s weaknesses 5 37.
- Strengthens his body beyond an ordinary person’s, remaining useful in Slaughter City where soul skills cannot be used 57.
- Supplies internal energy that supplements his soul power in combat 92.
- Forms part of the foundation through which he gains control of the Myriad Poisons Sect 139.
Hidden Weapons and Poisons
Tang San manufactures concealed weapons using his previous-life knowledge. Their lethality allows him to threaten opponents substantially above his own rank 5 13.
- Kills a Soul King above rank fifty with three Godly Zhuge Crossbow bolts during a surprise attack 13.
- Uses poisoned needles, ambushes, and concealed attacks against stronger opponents 5 146.
- His poisoning of Xie Yue damages the latter’s cultivation foundation, motivating Hu Liena’s revenge 58.
- Recognizes that a hidden weapon loses its advantage once an opponent has seen through it 7.
Eight Spider Lances
The external soul bone acquired with the Human-Faced Demon Spider’s ring manifests as eight spider limbs on Tang San’s back 18.
- Assists his defense against Yang Wudi 92.
- Anchors him to a cliff face during his duel with the Seventh Elder 75.
- Helps him gain the upper hand against Xue Qinghe 104.
Divine Slaughter’s Domain
Tang San uses this domain alongside his Eight Spider Lances to pressure Xue Qinghe, then combines it with the Clear Sky Hammer 104.
- Supports his offensive advantage before Xue Qinghe releases the Angel Domain.
- Can be incorporated into the Disorder Splitting Wind Hammer technique 104.
Protagonist Fate
Tang San possesses a protagonist fate protected by the Heavenly Dao, giving him access to repeated fortuitous opportunities 5.
- Zhao Su’s system advises against crippling him outright because of his future opportunities 5.
- His acquisition of an external soul bone exemplifies this exceptional fortune 18.
- In Ancient Ruins Mountain, his scattered companions reunite quickly; Zhao Su nevertheless suspects that an unidentified power is also helping him 139.
Sea God’s Power
The Sea God’s aura is confirmed within Tang San by Zhao Su’s system. The connection supplies both divine sense and temporary soul rings 150 153.
- Attempts to invade Zhao Su’s mind and seize control through divine sense 153.
- Loses that divine presence when Xiao Lu destroys it and severely wounds the Sea God 153.
- Later manifests the Sea God’s power again, wielding the Sea God Trident and merging with a giant formed from seawater 161 162.

- Yu Xiaogang — Teacher, whom Tang San calls his second father. Grandmaster invests heavily in his potential, though the narration depicts Tang San’s attachment as partly exploitative 5 27 101.
- Tang Yuehua — Paternal aunt. Sends him to the Clear Sky Sect and asks Zhao Su to protect him during the Seventh Elder’s duel 73 74.
- Tang Xiao — Paternal uncle and Clear Sky Sect master. Permits his attempt to rejoin the clan, subject to the elders’ approval, and rescues him from falling off a cliff 73 75.

- Zhao Su — Shrek Academy teacher and principal adversary. Initially keeps Tang San alive for strategic purposes; their conflict escalates into open hostility 58 85 106 146.
- Hu Liena — Rival seeking revenge for her tournament defeat and Xie Yue’s poisoning. Ends his Slaughter City winning streak using Zhao Su’s divine sense 58.
