Background / History
Tang San originates from another world and retains the knowledge of the Tang Sect. A deity brings his soul to the Douluo Continent, where he possesses Tang Hao’s newborn son. He inherits the child’s body and bloodlines rather than being born with his own original body 54 87.
He grows up alongside Xiao Yan in Holy Soul Village. Their impoverished home consists of three mud-brick rooms, and both children begin cooking for Tang Hao at four years old. Tang Hao spends his earnings on alcohol, while Old Jack repeatedly supplies grain and vegetables to keep the children fed 2 7.
Tang Hao’s treatment of Tang San changes abruptly after discovering his twin martial souls. He embraces Tang San for the first time, begins teaching him forging, and sees his talent as a means of avenging Ah Yin and restoring the Clear Sky Sect 7 8 10.
Tang San conceals his transmigration and Tang Sect cultivation from his father because revealing them would expose his possession of the original child’s body 11. Ah Yin eventually discovers the truth and publicly rejects him as her son 354.
Appearance
- Early childhood: Has a five- or six-year-old face, but can display killing intent markedly at odds with his age 2.
- Eyes: Normally dark; become purple when he activates Purple Demon Eye 84 82.
- Clothing: Wears a fitted blue outfit with Twenty-Four Moonlit Bridges around his waist 260.
- Mysterious Jade Hand: His hands become white and lustrous like jade when he prepares to use the technique 82.
- Sea God markings: Gains a Golden Trident brand on his forehead, followed by divine armor and eight wings 313 349 353.
- Later bodies: Occupies Xiao Wu’s body after their soul exchange, then acquires Luo Sanpao’s plump, pale-purple-furred form when their souls fuse 337 374.
Personality
Tang San’s previous life shapes his rigid loyalty to parents and teachers. He regards obedience as a son’s duty even when a father is abusive, and reacts violently when Xiao Yan criticizes Tang Hao. This loyalty also helps him accept restrictions on cultivating the Clear Sky Hammer despite recurring doubts 87 154.
He readily interprets provocation as grounds for killing. His recurring declaration that someone has “chosen the path to death” appears in childhood and continues through his conflicts with Xiao Yan, Tai Tan, and Qian Renxue 2 94 318 337.
His concern for Xiao Wu is immediate and intense. He prepares hidden weapons to protect her, channels internal energy into her when she falls unconscious, and waits outside her dormitory until dawn rather than treating his own injuries. He also attempts to stop her from attacking after they have already conceded an arena match 82 84 86.
Repeated defeats by Xiao Yan undermine his confidence and sharpen his resentment. He alternates between questioning his teacher’s methods, blaming Blue Silver Grass’s weakness, and seeking a new advantage that he believes will finally guarantee victory. Eventually, defeating Xiao Yan becomes important enough for him to cultivate by consuming other people’s vitality 53 153 174 175.
His deference is selective. After gaining the Sea God Trident, he threatens Sea Dragon Douluo for refusing to kneel to someone who has not yet inherited godhood. Later, he demands control of the Clear Sky Sect and shifts responsibility for his failed hammer cultivation onto Yu Xiaogang 313 350 184.
Abilities & Skills
Blue Silver Grass
Tang San initially develops Blue Silver Grass as a control martial soul, emphasizing binding and poison 49 51.
| Soul Skill | Ring | Applications and limits |
|---|---|---|
| Entanglement | First | Sends vines toward enemies from multiple directions. The grass is repeatedly burned away by Xiao Yan’s flames 51 180. |
| Parasite / Parasitism | Second | Deposits seeds on an opponent, then activates their growth to bind the target. He also scatters seeds along an escape route to hinder pursuers 49 241. |
| Spider Web Restraint | Third | Creates a poisonous web more than five meters across; its barbs puncture the target’s body 160. |
| Ice-attribute fourth skill | Fourth | Comes from the Ice Jade Demon Spider. He demonstrates ice-covered grass and forms a solid layer of ice around his arm; no skill name is supplied 133 134 148. |
| Lie Yan Thorns | Fifth | Raises a field of crimson thorns approximately two meters tall, separating him from his opponent 181. |
- His first two ring skills possess neurotoxins, according to Yu Xiaogang 51.
- Uses grass to retrieve wounded allies, pull teammates out of danger, and propel himself between trees 82 91 218.
- Both Tang Hao and Yu Xiaogang insist that he delay adding hammer rings while raising his soul power through Blue Silver Grass 50 54 163.
- Ice- and fire-attribute additions fail to eliminate Xiao Yan’s advantage: even after Tang San acquires his fifth ring, Xiao Yan burns his Entanglement to ash 180.
Dark Blue Silver Grass and Life Devouring
Tang San reports that absorbing the Man Faced Demon Spider’s soul bone caused his grass to mutate, eventually becoming Dark Blue Silver Grass through repeated devouring 174.
- Absorbs an enemy’s vitality and soul power to replenish itself during prolonged combat 174.
- Accelerates cultivation enough to help him reach rank fifty 174 177.
- Yu Xiaogang initially condemns deliberate life-devouring cultivation as the conduct of an Evil Soul Master 174.
- His accumulated power is poorly integrated: at rank eighty-four, he still lacks complete control over it 318.
Clear Sky Hammer
His second martial soul is the inherited hammer of the Clear Sky Sect 87.
- Disorder Splitting Wind Hammer / Chaotic Cloak: Uses linked movements of the calves, waist, back, and arms to build force through successive hammer swings. Tang Hao teaches him the technique, which he later uses in combat and forging 10 181 316.
- Qian Jun Rampart: His first hammer soul skill envelops him in a black current as he leaps and delivers a descending strike 182.
- Uses the hammer to break trees, drive back attackers, and publicly reveal his twin martial souls 177 241 181.
- Its premature cultivation overloads his body and produces uneven ring ages rather than the intended set of ten-thousand-year rings 176 177.
- Xiao Yan ultimately destroys the martial soul with heavenly flames 357.
Tang Sect Secret Arts
| Technique | Documented use |
|---|---|
| Mysterious Heaven Skill | Cultivation method responsible for his rapid early soul-power growth; also channels internal energy into Xiao Wu and Tang Hao 54 82 163. |
| Purple Demon Eye | Cultivated at dawn through eastern purple qi. Improves fine-detail perception, reaction timing, and vision at night 2 82 116. |
| Ghost Shadow Perplexing Track | Movement technique used for rapid approaches and evasive footwork 51 180 321. |
| Mysterious Jade Hand | Hand technique used alongside hidden weapons. The Sea God Trident’s heat and energy disable it during his trial 86 313. |
| Controlling Crane Capturing Dragon Art | Used with his movement technique while launching a trident attack at Tai Tan’s back 321. |
| Bat Wing Reincarnation | Sends projectiles along unusual trajectories. He uses broken Eight Spider Lance fragments as ammunition, but Xiao Yan incinerates them 87. |
Eight Spider Lances
The Man Faced Demon Spider’s external soul bone produces eight articulated lances from his back 81 133.
- Climbs cliffs by gripping their surfaces with the lance tips 116.
- Uses the lances as spring-loaded supports to launch himself forward and pierce an opponent 160.
- Devours energy from the Ice Jade Demon Spider before its ring absorption 133.
- Removes Man Faced Demon Spider poison from Yu Xiaogang, while also absorbing his life force and converting it into Tang San’s soul power 155 156.
- Xiao Yan shatters the lances with the Dark Gold Dreadclaw; they later reappear, undergo further damage, and partially regenerate 87 116 149 155.
Sea God Powers
Tang San gains recognition from the Sea God Trident before inheriting the Sea God position 313 349.
| Technique | Documented effect |
|---|---|
| Unfixed Wind Wave | Golden rings restrain a target. The Sea God describes an eight-second restraint against non-god opponents and a minimum of three seconds against gods 321. |
| Thousand Years of Emptiness | Wide-area trident assault. Tang San uses it to severely wound the Titan Giant Ape after restraining him 323. |
| One-Way Return | Projects or hurls the trident’s concentrated power toward a target 324 356 358. |
| Illusory Sea Vast Sky | Used during a spatially concealed trident thrust against Xiao Yan 357. |
| Sea God’s Twilight | Unifies the Golden Thirteen Halberds, turning Tang San and his armor yellow-crystalline before releasing an enormous pillar of light 353. |
| Boundless Azure Void | Condenses a giant Golden Trident behind him and sends it toward his enemies 356. |
| Body and Halberd as One | Merges his body, divine armor, and trident into an enormous weapon 357. |
- The Sea God personally demonstrates the first three halberd forms and transmits their information through a spiritual imprint 321.
- Before godhood, chaining the first three forms consumes more soul and spiritual power than Tang San can comfortably sustain 323.
- His eight wings accompany spatial travel after he becomes a god 349.
- When the Sea God borrows his body, Sea’s Protection and Body and Trident as One, Shifting Stars are performed by the deity rather than independently by Tang San 324 325.
Forging and Hidden Weapons
- Learns forging from Tang Hao and later assists Lou Gao using the Clear Sky Hammer and Chaotic Cloak 8 316.
- Manufactures hidden weapons through a partnership with Ning Fengzhi 149.
- Uses Willow Leaf Knives, Bone-Piercing Nails, Coin Darts, and Flying Locust Stones; Xiao Yan catches these weapons during their arena confrontation 86.
- Provides Lou Gao with part of the Buddha’s Fury Tang Lotus blueprints and later threatens Tai Tan with the Storm Pear Blossom Needle 315 318.
