| Status | Left with Shi Hao when Shi Hou disappears in the finale 199 |
| First Appearance | Shi Hou touches the stone pot and activates its crimson rune fire 2 |
Appearance
- Initially has an ancient, heavy gray stone body with handles; later appears pitch-black and sometimes radiates a dim gray glow 2 61 64.
- Bears intricate mountain-and-river patterns on its bottom and weathered patterns of mountains, rivers, and stars across its surface 78 154.
- Usually rides on Shi Hou’s back, secured with vines or straps, but can shrink small enough to hang beside his ear 19 28 140.
- Its weight is described as several thousand jin during an early fight and tens of thousands of jin in its enlarged rescue configuration 33 174.
Abilities & Skills
Size Changing and Recall
- Expands at Shi Hou’s command or thought. During the Suanni retrieval, it grows to a hundred feet; against the Heaven-Swallowing Sparrow’s poison, it reaches a thousand zhang 28 61.
- Shrinks back into an ear-worn form after use 140.
- Flies to both Shi Hou and Shi Hao. Shi Hao’s cry of “Pot, come!” pulls it away even while Shi Hou is sheltering underneath it 77 174.
- Attaches itself to Shi Hao’s back without landing in his outstretched hand, fitting its rim against his shoulder blades like a shell 198.
Black Pot Space
The pot’s interior is accessed through an invisible spatial membrane rather than being limited to its visible bowl 161.
- Stores enormous beast carcasses, organs, spirit medicines, seasoning jars, and other provisions 60 87 121 133.
- Accommodates living creatures, including Kang, Furball, and the little Wolf God 77 85 163.
- Holds the primordial Bone Fragment recovered from the Nine-Tier Altar and captures the heatless Black Fire before Shi Hou enters a Void Rift 155.
- Conceals contents from ordinary sight: the pot appears empty even while a creature remains within its internal space 161.
Absorption
- Generates powerful suction from its mouth and inner walls, collecting flesh and drawing the Titan Python’s inner pill into storage 28 60.
- Directs its suction at the Demon Ape’s exposed, still-beating heart 47.
- Swallows the Heaven-Swallowing Sparrow’s toxic Origin Breath without letting poisonous gas escape over Stone Village 61.
- Collects all the Taiyi True Water after its water-dragon manifestation enters the pot 179.
- Combines its pulling force with Shi Hou’s underwater whirlpool to trap Golden Frog within striking distance 170 171.
Defense and Concealment
- Withstands attacks that break an ambushing Blood Sable’s claws on contact 26.
- Covers Shi Hou completely when overturned, leaving no trace of his aura exposed 77.
- Enlarges to shelter Shi Hao’s group from the Taiyin River’s extreme cold, making the interior feel like a hot spring 77.
- Uses gray light and ancient Dao patterns to divert over ninety percent of Furball’s giant-ape punch into the void; the remaining force still injures Shi Hou 122.
- Blocks most of the oppressive death qi near the Nine-Tier Altar 154.
- Passes through the Magnetic Peak’s suppressing divine light without slowing and later takes a sneak attack against Shi Hao head-on 198.
Blunt-Force Combat
- Functions as a massive striking weapon powered by Shi Hou’s physical strength. It shatters the Thunder Clan elder’s lightning shield and strikes him in the face 39.
- Breaks the Demon Ape’s forearm and drives it onto one knee 46.
- Knocks Shi Hao out of his uncontrolled golden-lightning state 34.
- Smashes Golden Frog’s torrent and ice shards, then cracks its back armor with three rotating blows 171.
- Serves as Shi Hou’s ambush weapon against a silver-robed robber and Shi Yi 121 194.
Cooking and Nourishment
- Produces crimson flames woven from tiny runes. Shi Hou later activates these flames by kicking one of the pot’s legs 2 115.
- Envelops exhausted companions in gray light and gentle vital essence, restoring Kang and Furball through nourishing soaks 85 124.
- Supports long-term nurturing: Kang receives an hour in the pot daily for two years before another evolution 81.
- Contains medicines whose essences harmonize through Shi Hou’s cooking, music, and movements. Old Vine observes rare medicines arranging themselves into an innate Grand Formation within the broth 133 147.
Transport and Aerial Footing
- Becomes a house-sized vehicle hauled by nine Gray-Scaled Flood Dragons. Its early road configuration uses thick iron chains and white beast bones lashed beneath the base 108.
- Later hovers above a pool while the dragons attach rune chains and haul it through the sky 139.
- Cushions Shi Hou’s falls, surviving landings that smash trees and excavate large craters 75 155.
- Provides momentary footing in midair: Shi Hou stamps on it, launches himself forward, recalls it, and repeats the process to pursue White Tiger 193.
Blood Qi Costs and Limitations
Documented Costs
| Use | Blood Qi Value | Details |
|---|---|---|
| Absorbing lethal poison | 100,000 | Deducted when the enlarged pot intercepts the Heaven-Swallowing Sparrow’s Origin Breath 61. |
| Resisting the Taiyin River’s cold | 2,000,000 | Charged entirely to Shi Hou despite Shi Hao carrying the pot 77. |
| Restoring Kang and Furball | 500,000 | A two-hour nourishing soak returns both companions to full health 85. |
| Continued recuperation | 500,000 | Spent over the course of a meal while Kang and Furball recover inside; Shi Hou leaves them there longer because Furball remains depleted 124 125. |
| Overnight drain | 20,000,000 | Shi Hou wakes to find the divine egg missing. He subsequently discovers the little Wolf God inside the pot while the drain continues 160 161. |
Limits
- Incomplete coverage: Rain Clan needle-rain attacks pass around the pot and wound Shi Hao despite its protection 174.
- Residual impact: Diverting most of a powerful blow does not prevent the remaining force from injuring its bearer 122.
- Incorporeal targets: A full-strength swing passes straight through Ghost Master 138.
- Rapid reuse: Immediately after collecting divine meat, the pot cannot counterattack quickly enough to stop the Heaven-Swallowing Sparrow’s next death beam 62.
- Heavy burden: Its enlarged form, combined with Shi Hou and Golden Frog, weighs Shi Hao down like a small mountain and drives his feet into the earth 174.
Notable Preparations
| Dish or Medicine | Ingredients and Result |
|---|---|
| Sacrificial Spirit broth | Restores and strengthens Stone Village’s hunters; Shi Feijiao reaches the late-stage Blood Moving Realm, while the residue triggers Green-Scaled Eagle’s atavism 34. |
| Seven-Mile Fragrance | Uses flesh cut from the Heaven-Swallowing Sparrow. Even escaping vapor carries enough potency to make onlookers’ bones crackle 64 68 69. |
| True Blood Egg Custard | Combines a Five-Colored Peacock egg, Furball’s Zhu Yan true blood, cold pool water, mushrooms, scallions, and salt. Restores Furball’s depleted true blood and yields a five-million Blood Qi reward from the system 78. |
| Dao Foundation Powerful Tonic Soup | Blends thirty-seven spirit medicines with the Dao Embryo Fruit. Its escaping aroma brings new shoots to barren ground and restores a trace of green to Old Vine’s withered stem 133. |
| Realm-Breaking Great Medicine | Prepared under a prompt requiring unusual cooking movements; the rune fire and medicines harmonize as Shi Hou adds Blood Dragon Ginseng 147. |
| Spicy poached Golden Frog | Enriched with three drops of Taiyi True Water and mutated leek; Big Red assists with his innate true fire 181. |
| Three-Delicacy Hot Pot | Combines Feiyi, Luan Bird meat, and a Nine-Headed Lion head with Taiyi True Water, spirit medicines, and seasonings 186. |
History
Shi Hou first activates the pot in Stone Village by touching its handle, causing crimson rune fire to erupt beneath its gray stone body. It becomes his regular hunting equipment, carried alongside Kang, and is central to retrieving the Suanni corpse from the battlefield 2 19 23 28. Its origins remain obscure: even Old Vine cannot fathom them 132.
The pot becomes a recognizable part of the Black-Skinned Chef’s identity. Wanted notices depict Shi Hou carrying it, and cultivators mistakenly pursue another dark-skinned traveler with a pot on his back 151. At the Light Gate, its ancient hum destabilizes the teleportation passage and exposes Shi Hou to a violent spatial pull. He subsequently uses it as a shield near the Nine-Tier Altar and carries the recovered Bone Fragment and captured Black Fire through another Void Rift 151 154 155.
In the finale, Little Tower reveals that the Tenth Ancestor concealed itself inside Kang and used the Black Pot to nourish itself. This revelation connects the pot’s earlier tremors to the hidden Source. Shi Hou ultimately destroys the ten Ancestors, the Plateau, and the source of the black fog through his black-hole heavenly cave—not through the pot itself. Before disappearing, he returns the Black Pot to Shi Hao, who promises to bring him back 199.
