Background / History

Seclusion and Return

The Peacock King had swept across the Southern Region eight hundred years before his reappearance. He spent those eight centuries cultivating in a small world created by an ancient sage. When he discovered the world, it was badly damaged and approaching collapse; he restored it into a thriving refuge roughly fifty li across 32 36 37.

He emerged from seclusion after the Ji Family oppressed the Azure Emperor’s descendants. Defending Yan Ruyu, he smashed the Ji Family’s gates and hunted Ji Haoyue, whose fate remained unknown to the cultivators discussing the incident 35 37.

His battle with Nangong Zheng devastated the Qixia Mountain Range in the Jin Kingdom, leaving it barren. Outsiders did not know whether either combatant had won. The Ji Family Holy Lord and Yaoguang Holy Lord subsequently searched the Southern Region together, declaring their intention to kill him 32 36.

Shelter for Lu Chen and Ye Fan

The Peacock King arrived after Lu Chen subdued three Ji Family Eminent Elders and their disciples. He praised Lu Chen’s strength but warned that killing the elders would invite retaliation from the nearby Ji Family Holy Lord. After Lu Chen spared them, the Peacock King ordered the defeated cultivators to leave 35.

He then brought Lu Chen and Ye Fan to his refuge, hidden inside an unremarkable rocky mountain less than five hundred li from the devastated Qixia Mountain Range. Yan Ruyu and her companions were also staying there 36 37.

At a gathering with his old friend, the Azure Flood Dragon King, he learned of strange phenomena around the Primordial Ancient Mine. Acknowledging the difficulty of advancing through secluded cultivation alone, he agreed to travel north. He also arranged for Yan Ruyu to relocate and accepted Ye Fan’s request to accompany them 37.

Demon God Flower Expedition

Lu Chen offered the Demon God Flower’s location in exchange for essence blood from the Azure Emperor’s heart. Although the flower offered little direct benefit to the already-established Demon Kings, its ability to lay a foundation for young demons made it invaluable for their successors. The Peacock King pledged whatever rewards he could provide 38 39.

To obtain the route to Feathered Immortal Valley, he placed a secret tracking mark on a Ji Family disciple selected by Lu Chen. This allowed Lu Chen to follow the disciple and seize the family’s ancient map. The Peacock King then carried the expedition deep into the Southern Region’s wilderness 39.

In the valley, he detected and fought the Centipede Insect King guarding the flower. His Stars Illuminate the Azure Heavens manifestation annihilated both the guardian’s body and soul. He cleared its poisonous mist and collected the entire rocky mountain bearing the flower, thanking Lu Chen for leading them to it 41.

Relocation to the Northern Region

While the expedition was away, the Ji Family Holy Lord and Yaoguang Holy Lord found and destroyed the Peacock King’s refuge. Despite his anger and regret, he did not launch a reckless attack against their combined forces 42.

A month later, he and the Azure Flood Dragon King led Yan Ruyu, Lu Chen, Ye Fan, and their Demon Race followers through a Domain Gate. The group reached the Northern Region and settled temporarily in Yunze Prefecture, an oasis ruled by the Azure Flood Dragon King 42.

Continued Opposition to the Holy Lands

During the underground palace struggle involving the Chaos Stone Platform and Beast-Skin Scroll, the Peacock King and other Demon Race Great Powers provided potential backing for Lu Chen against the Purple Mansion and Ji Family elders. Nevertheless, the widespread desire to seize Ye Fan’s Cauldron of All-Things Mother Qi meant that even the Peacock King would struggle to protect Ye Fan there 81.

By the time of the Heavenly Demon Pavilion auction, the Peacock King had joined his sworn brother, the Red Dragon Daoist, in battling the Yaoguang Holy Lord and Ji Family Holy Lord. Their joint effort left the Yaoguang Holy Lord severely wounded 91.

Escape from the Ruthless Daoist Grounds

The Peacock King entered the Ruthless Great Emperor’s Daoist Grounds and became trapped alongside the Azure Flood Dragon King, holy-land experts, and numerous young prodigies. Rather than a divine treasury, the grounds contained a lethal formation targeting the intruders, including special physiques whose origins were being drained. The formation’s escalating attacks threatened even Holy Lord-level figures such as the Peacock King 123.

The Peacock King, Azure Flood Dragon King, Tu Tian, and the other mighty experts were injured as they struggled to escape. With their situation becoming desperate, the Peacock King took the Green Lotus Emperor Weapon from Yan Ruyu, while Tu Tian brought out his half of the Devouring Heaven Demon Jar. The Azure Flood Dragon King and the holy-land experts joined them in activating the weapons, opening a passage with great difficulty and leading the surviving young prodigies out 124.

News of their escape spread throughout the Eastern Wasteland. The expedition had inflicted devastating losses on the holy lands: their experts were almost completely wiped out, and virtually all the younger cultivators other than the Holy Sons had perished in the formation 125.

Immortal Transformation Pool Standoff

At the Immortal Transformation Pool, the Peacock King and his allies wielded the Green Lotus Emperor Weapon in a confrontation with the Great Xia Emperor, who held the Taihuang Sword. The opposing groups watched the Immortal Cauldron fragment amid the struggle for treasures 168.

When Ye Fan seized the green copper and fought his way out, the Great Xia Dynasty unleashed the Taihuang Sword’s supreme Dao might against him. The Peacock King and Red Dragon Daoist used the Green Lotus Emperor Weapon to block the attack completely, helping Ye Fan escape down the mountain 169.

Death as the Golden Age Waned

During Lu Chen’s reign as the Chaos Heavenly Emperor, the Golden Age eventually began to decline. The Peacock King died along with other figures of the earlier era, including the Red Dragon Daoist, Fighting Saint Buddha, and Divine Silkworm Princess. Lu Chen mourned the passing of his old companions as successive generations aged 425.

Appearance

The Peacock King’s human form resembles a delicate-featured youth of sixteen or seventeen, despite his age of over two thousand years 35 42.

  • Bright eyes and wind-tossed hair, with an extraordinary bearing 35.
  • Pure, otherworldly appearance, compared to snow upon a flowering tree and to a lotus 35.
  • Youthful face contrasted with aged eyes, which carry the weight of his long life 42.
  • Terrifying but restrained aura, easily concealed beneath his gentle appearance 35.

Personality

The Peacock King is openly defiant toward the great families and holy lands. He mocks the Ji Family’s defeated elders without restraint and emerges from centuries of seclusion to defend the Demon Race princess. Toward promising juniors, however, he is approachable, praising Lu Chen and greeting Ye Fan warmly 35 37.

His boldness is tempered by experience. He warns Lu Chen about the consequences of killing the Ji Family elders, avoids provoking a dangerous Lightning Phoenix Bird, and refuses to charge headlong against two hostile Holy Lords after losing his home 35 40 42.

His support for Ye Fan is partly strategic: he values the Desolate Ancient Sacred Body’s potential and Ye Fan’s connection to the Mad Old Man through the latter’s footwork. He also takes Lu Chen’s assistance seriously, explicitly promising to remember his kindness after obtaining the Demon God Flower 37 41.

His willingness to support juniors continues in later crises. He helps lead the surviving prodigies out of the Ruthless Daoist Grounds and, together with the Red Dragon Daoist, blocks an Emperor Weapon’s attack to protect Ye Fan during the struggle over the green copper 124 169.
