Chapter 49: Sister Lexuan, You'll Forgive Me, Won't You?

By the time Ye Xixuan reached the Martial Soul Department's teaching building, classes had long since ended.

Beneath the lingering sunset, the whole of Sea God Lake shone gold and red, like a reflection of the evening sky.

A charming figure leaned against the railing beside Sea God Lake, one delicate hand propping up her cheek. Her long black ponytail swayed behind her with her cheerful movements. Her legs were long and straight, with an enticing strip of snowy skin exposed between her blue skirt and white knee-high socks.

Her curvaceous figure had begun to take on the allure of a grown woman, yet still brimmed with youthful vitality.

Ye Xixuan silently walked up behind Tang Ya. His gaze lingered briefly on that strip of exposed skin before he smiled and called softly.

"Sister Xiaoya."

"Ah!" Tang Ya had been lost in thought, and Ye Xixuan's interruption gave her a fright. But when she turned and saw who it was, a delighted smile instantly blossomed on her lovely face.

"Xixuan!"

Before the word had even left her lips, Tang Ya leaped up and clung to Ye Xixuan, all decorum forgotten. She wrapped her slender arms around his neck, her affectionate voice carrying a hint of petulance.

"What took you so long?"

"Something held me up at the Soul Tool Department. You haven't been waiting long, have you, Sister Xiaoya?" Supporting Tang Ya's thighs with both hands, Ye Xixuan met her eyes and gave a helpless smile. He was already a little taller than she was. Coupled with his deep eyes, far more mature than those of his peers, the two of them looked entirely like people of the same age.

He might even have looked a little more mature.

Tang Ya hopped down from Ye Xixuan and inspected him carefully, feeling immensely satisfied.

Over the years, she had practically molded Ye Xixuan single-handedly into her own idea of perfection. The sense of accomplishment from raising him was beyond words.

"I didn't wait that long, but you still have to make it up to me. You have to fill me up tonight!"

"Uh..." At Tang Ya's words, Ye Xixuan nearly blacked out. Although Tang Ya and Ma Xiaotao had completely different personalities, their words were equally liable to lead people's minds astray.

Ma Xiaotao considered herself sufficiently mature in both age and body and deliberately teased him with her words. Tang Ya, on the other hand, always seemed to say such ambiguous things unwittingly, with an utterly innocent expression on her face.

Seeing that Ye Xixuan still hadn't moved, Tang Ya grabbed his hand and impatiently headed toward the area outside Shrek Academy's East City Gate.

"What are you standing around for? Hurry up! I'm going to try every single thing today. Hehe."

"Slow down, Sister Xiaoya. It's not as though anyone's going to fight you for it." Pulled along by Tang Ya, Ye Xixuan instinctively quickened his pace. Even the nerves kept taut by his prolonged cultivation seemed to relax.

The carefree, cheerful personality Tang Ya showed the world always subtly rubbed off on those around her.

In Shrek Square, not far away, a blue-haired boy with a melancholy expression had been watching them all along. Even after Ye Xixuan and Tang Ya disappeared into the crowd, he remained lost in a daze.

"Damn it, Bei Bei, they're long gone. What are you still staring at?" Another tall boy came over. The two were none other than the buddies Bei Bei and Xu Sanshi.

Bei Bei withdrew his gaze and glanced at his troublesome friend beside him. "Sanshi, do you think I still have a chance?" he asked wistfully.

"Don't tell me you actually want to compete with Xixuan?" Xu Sanshi's eyes widened in disbelief.

"Do you think romance works like soul fighting? Whoever wins gets to take the beauty home? After all these years, can't you see how Tang Ya treats Xixuan? They're so close I don't think even a fly could squeeze between them."

"Compete?" Bei Bei's expression darkened further. Could he even beat Xixuan in cultivation talent or strength?

Although he had obtained his fourth Soul Ring not long ago, he knew perfectly well that he wasn't necessarily capable of defeating Ye Xixuan. And the gap between them would only grow wider in the future.

Taking a deep breath, Bei Bei seemed to return to his usual self. A mischievous smile appeared on his lips as he fell back into his habit of talking trash.

"Look at you, playing relationship counselor. Aren't you still a virgin yourself?"

"Enjoy running your mouth for these last few days. By the time I come back next semester, I won't be one anymore," Xu Sanshi bragged smugly.

"And once I finish my awakening ceremony, you can forget about ever getting the upper hand over me again."

"I wonder which girl was blind enough to fall for you." Bei Bei wore an innocent expression, but his mouth kept taking jabs at Xu Sanshi.

"What advantage could you possibly have over me?"

"I'm bigger than you, of course!"

Meanwhile, Ye Xixuan stayed by Tang Ya's side as they made the rounds of every food stall outside the academy's East City Gate.

Only when her stomach was so full that she couldn't eat another bite did Tang Ya finally stop, thoroughly satisfied.

Afterward, the two followed the main road outside Shrek City all the way to their home in the city's southern district, treating it as an after-dinner stroll to help digest their food.

Tang Ya unlocked the courtyard gate, then stood inside and stretched languidly.

"Mmm, I've had my fill. Time for bed."

Ye Xixuan closed the gate behind them and sat down on the stone steps nearby, admiring Tang Ya's graceful curves.

Noticing his gaze, Tang Ya walked over with a lilting laugh and plopped down sideways beside him.

"Xixuan, what are you looking at?"

"You're so beautiful, Sister Xiaoya. It's only natural that I can't help taking another look." Ye Xixuan answered with complete sincerity.

Tang Ya lifted her feet off the ground and swung her legs back and forth with a smile, as though she were sitting in a rocking chair.

"At least you've got good taste! Then tell me, who's prettier, me or Nannan?" Every girl seemed to have an inexplicable fixation on questions like these.

Yet Ye Xixuan found himself unable to speak for a long while. By the time Tang Ya realized it, her cheeks had flushed crimson, and she abruptly turned to look at him shyly.

"Sister Xiaoya..." Ye Xixuan called softly, meeting her eyes.

Tang Ya finally seemed to realize something. Turning toward him, she cupped his cheeks with both hands. Her eyes gleamed like autumn waters as she let out a laugh that was almost, but not quite, reproachful.

"That little fellow from back then really has grown up. Xixuan, do you like your Sister Xiaoya?"

"Yes." Ye Xixuan steadied his slightly hurried breathing, then nodded honestly.

As he gazed at the lovely, captivating Tang Ya, his eyes grew distant, and his thoughts involuntarily turned to Zhang Lexuan, who was cultivating in seclusion.

Sister Lexuan, you'll forgive me, won't you?
