Tang Ziran and Lang Yue found Tang Wulin as a swaddled infant on the snowy plains of the Far North. His name echoed across the sky when they discovered him. Although they understood that an infant surviving there could not be ordinary, they raised him as their own child 518 569.

At six, Tang Wulin began learning forging from Mang Tian to pay for a soul spirit. His family could not afford even the cheapest hundred-year soul spirit, and his Blue Silver Grass and innate rank-three soul power attracted no outside sponsorship. His first purchase yielded only a defective ten-year soul spirit despite the work that had left his palms raw 504.

Na’er joined the household during his childhood, but later disappeared. Tang Ziran and Lang Yue subsequently left when Tang Wulin was nine, accepting Spirit Pagoda research work to support his cultivation. They were instead confined and forced to develop drugs, remaining separated from him for more than ten years 504 602.

Origins and Old Tang

Before he was ten, Tang Wulin discovered “Old Tang” within his Sea of Consciousness. This presence repeatedly helped him survive the Golden Dragon King’s seals. During the Heaven Dou Empire mission, Old Tang revealed himself as a fragment of divine consciousness left by Tang Wulin’s biological father, Tang San. Tang Wulin also learned that Xiao Wu was his biological mother and that the Divine Realm had disappeared 553 674.

Tang San left him the Sea God Trident and three opportunities to contact him. Tang Wulin felt grateful for his protection, but initially struggled to connect a legendary historical figure with the idea of a father. He continued thinking of him as Old Tang, the familiar companion who had helped him through his childhood 553 674 908.

Da Ming and Er Ming later expanded his knowledge of his family, telling him about his elder sister, Tang Wutong, and her history with Huo Yuhao 703.

• Family resemblance: Qian Renxue considered him strongly reminiscent of Tang San 927.
• Public appeal: Some young spectators waved banners specifically because of his looks during the Five Gods Battle 598.
• Golden dragon scales: Scales emerge across his skin when he draws on the Golden Dragon King’s defensive power 610 841.

Personality

Tang Wulin is diligent, persistent, and conscious of his responsibilities. Even while suspecting that his parents had died in Lingbo City, he restrained his desire to confront the Spirit Pagoda because implicating the Tang Sect could endanger its diplomacy and Shrek Academy’s reconstruction 551 552.

His outward resilience conceals a pronounced fear of loss. His parents’ disappearance, Na’er’s departures, Gu Yue’s uncertain presence, and Shrek Academy’s destruction left him afraid that happiness would vanish whenever it came within reach. Much of his drive to become stronger arose from wanting to prevent further separations—not from an intrinsic desire for godhood 549 552 907.

Childhood poverty made him highly frugal. His increased appetite, the medicines needed for the Golden Dragon King’s seals, and his parents’ exhaustion all shaped his attitude toward money. These habits persisted even after he became Tang Sect Master and Sea God Pavilion Master 686.

He is capable of reconsidering both himself and the institutions he represents. A Bao’s criticism prompted him to question the prospects of ordinary Soul Masters; later, he recognized that Shrek City’s displaced residents had been neglected while attention centered on the academy and its rivalry with the Spirit Pagoda. He responded by helping at Spirit Hall without acting in his leadership capacity 699 933.

His family’s return noticeably eased his emotional strain. After reconciliation with Gu Yuena, his friends observed that he smiled much more often, behaved playfully with her, and had even begun changing his long-standing penny-pinching habits 810 934.

• Physical reinforcement: Provides tremendous strength, golden scales, and protective dragon astral qi. These defenses can be combined with his battle armor and torso bone 839 841.

Dragon God Transformation
