Background / History

Early Life and Defeats

A Bao was born with the Demon Race’s highest bloodline and exceptional cultivation talent. He idolized Feng Xiu as a perfect ruler and sought to equal or surpass him in strength and wisdom. His pursuit extended even to his choice of partner: although he liked Yue Ye, he justified their engagement as another step toward becoming perfect 349 367 369.

Two defeats by Long Haochen shattered his confidence. He postponed his marriage and cultivated obsessively to erase the humiliation. Believing that Feng Xiu had subsequently killed Long Haochen, he felt deprived of the chance to settle their rivalry himself 303 349.

Confrontations with Huo Yuhao

A Bao attacked the injured Huo Yuhao outside Demon Capital Heart City, hoping to prove himself before Feng Xiu. Huo Yuhao repeatedly evaded him, provoked his anger, and suppressed him with three simultaneous domains. When Huo Yuhao redirected his attack toward the Demon God Emperor and appeared to escape, A Bao was left unsure whether their fight counted as victory or defeat 285 286 288 289.

That uncertainty disrupted his cultivation and drove him to demand a rematch. Huo Yuhao defeated him decisively with Rakshasa divine power, but A Bao rejected both assistance and healing as humiliation. A later challenge ended even faster, with him embedded in the ground and unable to move 303 304 305 348.

The turning point came when A Bao dismissed starving, low-ranking demons as worthless. Huo Yuhao rebuked him for abandoning the people he was supposed to lead, then asked him to consider his mother’s love. A Bao subsequently disappeared for a time before returning with a different request: he wanted to become stronger, rather than merely defeat Huo Yuhao 349 361.

Life in Demon City

A Bao began training with Huo Yuhao and A Nan while watching Demon City take shape. Over four years, the inhabitants’ repeated failures and gradual success in constructing their homes taught him patience and the need to acknowledge shortcomings. He became calmer in battle, though initially remained uncertain about what should replace his former ideal of perfection 361 362 367.

Demon City also challenged his understanding of government. Unlike the old demon cities, it admitted residents regardless of strength or tribe and contained no human slaves. Seeing this contrast led him to question both Feng Xiu’s rule and the meaning of his own position 368 369.

His changed outlook became visible in his actions. He apologized to Agares and Vasak for his past impulsiveness and criticized Feng Xiu’s conduct in the Demon Empress Palace. Later, he and A Nan compelled Demon Gods and nobles to release enslaved humans; A Bao beat Asmodeus and other resisters 389 391.

War and Loss of the Crown Prince Position

Before the convoy’s journey toward Imperial Dragon Pass, A Bao told Yue Ye that he wanted to rebuild their relationship as equals, without using their marriage agreement to pressure her. By then, he understood the Crown Prince’s position as a responsibility to protect lives rather than an entitlement to inherit power 424.

During the convoy ambush, he used Heavenly Demon Disintegration to create an escape route. The resulting damage lowered his cultivation and ultimately cost him his succession rights. Yue Ye carried the exhausted A Bao toward Imperial Dragon Pass, and the two agreed to regard themselves as comrades-in-arms for the remainder of the war 428 438 439 454.

Losing his title brought him relief rather than renewed rage. He joined the frontline troops, searched the battlefield for wounded survivors, and began questioning the necessity of the fighting. When a wounded human Guardian Knight attacked him, A Bao refused to retaliate and offered medicine. A stray shell then struck nearby; his shield and position protected the human from much of the blast, although A Bao himself could not evade it. Yue Ye recovered both survivors 458 459 460.

Austin Griffin and Departure

During the battle against Austin Griffin, the Doom and Slaughter and Divine Throne called to A Bao despite his being neither human nor a knight. He accepted its power and used Heavenly Demon Disintegration again, breaking through Austin Griffin’s sound waves and creating an opening for Long Haochen to attack through the blood pact 479.

Long Haochen caught him as he fell. Afterward, Feng Xiu acknowledged him with a slight nod, and Yue Ye embraced him and administered medicine. A Bao later witnessed Feng Xiu’s soul disperse and retained the Heaven-Defying Demon Dragon Sword received from him 479 694.

A Bao chose to follow Huo Yuhao away from the Holy Demon Continent. He returned the Divine Throne to Long Xingyu without hesitation, said farewell to Bai Yue alongside Leng Xiao, and entered the Undead Demiplane 490 494.

Recovery and Operations on Douluo Star

Repeated use of Heavenly Demon Disintegration left A Bao injured and unable to advance beyond Ninth Order, Level Three. At Yue Ye’s insistence, Huo Yuhao examined him and guided him through condensing an improved Soul Core. The process restored his cultivation and renewed his hope for the future 530.

He subsequently assisted Huo Yuhao on missions, including carrying the unconscious Lingyin into the Undead Demiplane. In New Star Luo City, he saved Xu Mi’er and severely wounded Leng Yulai with a sword technique inspired by his experience against Austin Griffin. Although Leng Yulai escaped, he recovered the Soul Tool containing Yun Ming’s remnant soul 544 612 613.

A Bao also became one of the companions willing to challenge Huo Yuhao emotionally, joining Leng Xiao and Yue Ye in urging him to confront his unresolved feelings about the Sun Moon Federation 637.

Tournament to Find a Spouse

Huo Yuhao assigned A Bao to infiltrate the Spirit Pagoda’s Tournament to Find a Spouse. Concerned about the effect on his relationship with Yue Ye, he initially resisted, but accepted after she assured him of her trust. His cover presented him as a member of an obscure reclusive family 680.

Inside the Myriad Beast Platform, A Bao fought the Titan Giant Ape and maneuvered against the Sky Azure Bull Python. He later encountered a mysterious consciousness that questioned his unfamiliar dragon bloodline, claimed responsibility for the platform’s altered laws, and expelled him before he could establish its identity 689 690 691.

His victory over Sima Jinchi attracted recruitment interest from powerful organizations, which he deliberately avoided. At the tournament’s final stage, he intended to distract the Spirit Pagoda while Yue Ye infiltrated it. When Tang Wulin’s public reunion with Gu Yuena drew powerful fighters to the venue, A Bao withdrew on Yue Ye’s warning. With the required items secured, they returned together to the Undead Demiplane 697 704.

Later Battles

  • Wu Jie’s transformation: Attempts to rescue Wu Jie from a strange rift, but his power and sword strike disappear inside it. He then joins the battle against the transformed Wu Jie 739.
  • Myriad Beast Platform evacuation: Returns with Huo Yuhao and helps evacuate its Soul Beasts, though he cannot sense the consciousness he previously encountered 941.
  • Abyssal Sage King: Attacks alongside Di Tian. His sword briefly shows signs of suppressing the Heavenly Saint Rift Abyss Halberd, but the enemy’s superior strength sends him flying; Yue Ye catches him and is injured 1013.

Personality

A Bao’s early arrogance grew out of fear that he could never become the perfect being he imagined his father to be. He treated defeat as a stain to erase rather than a lesson, concealed affection behind ambition, and interpreted help from stronger opponents as contempt. His anger also alienated Leng Xiao, who often avoided him 305 348 367 369.

His later composure does not make him indifferent to effort. He continues cultivating whenever time permits, but becomes capable of recognizing his limitations without collapsing into rage. During the tournament, the arrogance of privileged contestants embarrasses him because it resembles his former behavior 613 683 685.

His concern for others develops beyond loyalty to his own race. He comes to condemn nobles who destroy their people’s livelihoods, refuses to kill a wounded human enemy, and finds the torment of a dead person’s soul revolting. Nevertheless, he does not reject fighting altogether: he regards it as necessary against actions that cannot be allowed to continue unchecked 424 459 460 613.

Abilities & Skills

Heaven-Defying Demon Dragon Physique

  • Heaven-Defying: An innate skill that envelops him in black flames and continuously increases his combat strength 286.
  • Demon Dragon Undying Body: Manifests dragon scales and greatly enhances defense, allowing him to withstand elemental sword attacks and powerful soul cannon blasts 286 304 368.
  • Limits: His scales can be penetrated by sufficiently powerful attacks; Huo Yuhao’s Rakshasa Demon Scythe cuts through them 304.

Swordsmanship

  • Purple Emperor Heaven-Shaking Slash: Launches enormous, solid-looking purple sword qi 286.
  • Purple Dragon Heaven-Shaking Slash: Channels his Spirit Power into a large-scale strike; used at the limit of Heavenly Demon Disintegration during the convoy escape 428.
  • Concentrated sword strike: Applies an insight gained from fighting Austin Griffin, compressing tremendous force into an outwardly ordinary swing. It cuts through Leng Yulai’s domain and attack, but his incomplete mastery prevents a precise lethal hit 613.
  • Aura control: Condenses his aura around himself and gathers it into a single point within his sword—control that requires insight rather than cultivation alone 689.

Heaven-Defying Demon God Domain

  • Deploys his own domain against opposing domain effects 286 427.
  • Huo Yuhao erases it with Dispel; Long Haochen’s Domain of the God of Light suppresses it even when supported by Yue Ye’s Moon Domain 286 427.

Heavenly Demon Disintegration Technique

  • Temporarily raises his power beyond his normal cultivation, reaching Ninth Order, Sixth Level during the convoy ambush 428.
  • Combined with the Divine Throne, produces attack power at least comparable to peak Ninth Order, Eighth Level 479.
  • Damages his origin and vitality, lowers cultivation, and can prevent further advancement for years. Repeated use renews the damage even after recovery has begun 438 439 530.

Soul Cores

  • Condenses an improved Soul Core under Huo Yuhao’s guidance, using a method enhanced by Elder Yi 530.
  • The process helps repair technique-induced injuries and restores normal cultivation 530.
  • Later possesses dual Soul Cores that gather surrounding Heaven and Earth vital energy during combat 689.

Concealment and Technical Skills

  • Conceals his actual strength and regulates test results; during tournament preliminaries, presents Rank 92 cultivation and Spirit Abyss Realm Spiritual Power 685.
  • Uses a fabricated background, aura-concealing equipment, and simulated Soul Rings for infiltration 680.
  • Has experience with mecha repair and other technical tasks learned in the Undead Demiplane 685.
  • Recognizes disguises through observation, including Lan Fozi’s deliberately affected mannerisms 697 698.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Purple Dragon Heaven-Shaking Sword — His principal weapon during his early battles with Huo Yuhao, training with Leng Xiao, and the convoy ambush 286 367 428.
  • Heaven-Defying Demon Dragon Sword — Received from Feng Xiu and used in later battles. Against the Abyssal Sage King, scarlet patterns appear along its blade and it briefly shows signs of suppressing the enemy’s halberd 694 1013.
  • Doom and Slaughter and Divine Throne — Temporarily accepts him and manifests red-gold armor while replenishing his damaged body and essence. He later severs the connection and returns its emblem to Long Xingyu 479 490.
  • Three-Word Battle Armor — Made from soul-forged material produced in the Undead Demiplane. Its dragon-scale patterns and attributes closely match his bloodline; it is superior to ordinary Three-Word Battle Armor but below Divine Throne armor 612.
  • Four-Word Battle Armor — Available by the tournament mission. Huo Yuhao prepares backup Three-Word Battle Armor to keep the rarer equipment from attracting attention 680 701.
  • Soul Tool Shields — Protect him during the convoy ambush and battlefield bombardment, though sufficiently strong attacks destroy them 426 427 460.

  • Soul Tool containing Yun Ming’s remnant soul — Recovered from Leng Yulai’s discarded belongings after their fight 613.

  • Leng Xiao — Younger sister and sparring partner. Their initially distant relationship becomes more familiar; her progress makes him take her seriously, and he grows more tolerant of her teasing and appetite 355 366 369.
  • Bai Yue — Sister. They spend time together before his departure from the Holy Demon Continent 494.
  • Yue Ye — Fiancée and later trusted partner. He relinquishes his use of the engagement as leverage; she rescues him, supports his recovery, and participates in the Spirit Pagoda mission with him 424 439 460 530 680 704.
  • Huo Yuhao — Begins as an opponent and target of revenge; becomes his instructor, healer, and mission leader. Their relationship eventually includes A Bao offering emotional support in return 303 361 530 637 680.
  • A Nan — Training partner and fellow enforcer during the release of enslaved humans 361 391.
  • Long Haochen — Former rival whose victories destabilize A Bao’s confidence. They later cooperate against Austin Griffin, and Long Haochen catches him after his decisive attack 349 479.
  • Huang Shuo — Loyal protector who remains beside him after his loss of succession rights and supports his tournament mission 458 697.
