Background / History

Origins and early activities

Hong Ze is one of the first Innate Humans created by Nüwa Niangniang. He is also a transmigrator with knowledge and habits from a modern era, which led him to create brushes, ink, paper, and inkstones while the Primordial World still relied on Demon Script carved into tortoise shells. 2

For tens of thousands of years, his cultivation progressed slowly enough that others considered him mediocre. He nevertheless became Master Tongtian’s eldest disciple in the Jie Sect, where his Great Dao aura made ordinary deduction of his affairs dangerous even for Saints. 46 167

Hong Ze sought to improve the Human Race before its destined development. He taught agriculture at the Hua Xu Tribe and hoped that accelerated human civilization might protect the Jie Sect from the future Investiture of the Gods calamity. 44 46

Heavenly Ladder and Guixu

Although Hong Ze initially considered his foundation poor, the Heavenly Ladder awakened his Heaven Devouring Body. The physique’s ability to absorb spiritual energy hundreds of times faster than normal cultivators allowed him to make consecutive breakthroughs while ascending. 56 57

He entered the dangerous land of Guixu after borrowing the Green Lotus Precious Color Flag from Guide Daoist. There, he resisted Guixu Qi through the Immortal Slaughtering Formation, his Great Dao attainments, and a growing array of spiritual treasures. 82 84

In Guixu, Hong Ze discovered Donghuang Taiyi’s corpse, the Chaos Bell, the Twelve Rank World-Destroying Black Lotus, and the God Slaying Spear. His body was reconstructed after exposure to Guixu’s dangers, becoming an Innate God and Demon Body. 88 89 91

He deceived Demon Ancestor Luo Hou into guiding him toward the God Slaying Spear, then resisted Luo Hou’s attempt to seize his body. Hong Ze’s sea of consciousness contained nine identical manifestations of himself, frustrating the Demon Ancestor’s plan. 91

Jie Sect leadership and Saintly politics

After returning from Guixu, Hong Ze revealed that his Quasi-Sage cultivation came from Law Power rather than the Three Corpses Severing method. He possessed the Demon Law and Pangu’s Law of Power, giving him combat ability far beyond an ordinary Quasi-Sage. 131 134

Master Tongtian subsequently entrusted the Jie Sect’s management to Hong Ze while entering seclusion. Hong Ze used the sect’s resources, its formations, and its ties to several races to strengthen its destiny before the Investiture of the Gods. 134 137

Hong Ze pressured Laozi with the Twelve Rank World-Destroying Black Lotus and God Slaying Spear, obtaining two-tenths of the Human Race’s destiny. He then became Laozi’s foremost disciple and received the Southern Off-Ground Flame Light Flag. 123

Hongjun Daozu became suspicious of Hong Ze’s unusual origins and attempted to investigate him through the Creation Jade Disc. A hidden Pangu soul within the disc protected Hong Ze, leaving Hongjun unable to perceive his identity. 167

Witch Clan alliance and the Human Race trials

Hong Ze accepted Chi You as his disciple after revealing that the Nine Li Tribe leader had awakened Witch Clan bloodline. He intended to use the coming conflict between Chi You and Xuanyuan Huangdi as a necessary trial for the Human Race rather than allowing either race to be exterminated. 180 183

He entered the Ancestral Witch Hall, defeated Xing Tian, and demonstrated enough force to make the Great Witches reconsider their hostility. After presenting the twelve Ancestral Witch Flags, he was accepted as the Witch Clan’s de facto leader. 202 204

During the Zhuolu conflict, Hong Ze preserved Chi You’s soul and recovered his body. He later had Master Tongtian and Laozi reshape Chi You’s body and conceal his Ancestral Witch aura behind a new appearance. 270 273

Appearance

Hong Ze is an Innate Human whose body was fundamentally remade in Guixu. During the transformation, his entire body emitted golden light before his skin returned to its normal color. 88

  • His reconstructed body is comparable in toughness to an Innate Spiritual Treasure and the physical bodies of the Twelve Ancestral Witches. 88
  • His physique is identified as an Innate God and Demon Body, also called a Great Dao Body. 89
  • He can conceal his aura and identity through the power associated with the Great Dao Nine Saints. 46 171

Personality

Hong Ze is strategic, calculating, and unusually willing to manipulate stronger figures when it benefits the Jie Sect, the Human Race, or his long-term plans. He pressures Laozi for Human Race destiny, deceives Luo Hou in Guixu, and openly devises plans to influence the Investiture of the Gods and the Heavenly Dao. 91 123 136 183

Despite this ruthlessness, he consistently protects those under his care. He shields Holy Mother Gui Ling from internal Jie Sect accusations, prepares Zhao Gongming to secure Shennong’s future, and repeatedly supports Chi You even when his disciple’s destined defeat is unavoidable. 103 110 195 270

Hong Ze considers desire a source of motivation rather than an obstacle to cultivation. His realization of this principle allowed his state of mind to attain Sainthood at the River of Fate. 208
