Background / History

Chi You was reincarnated into the You Li Tribe with Witch Clan bloodline and a Primordial Spirit, an anomaly among Witches. His reincarnation was secretly influenced by Ping Xin Niangniang, who governs the Nine Underworlds. Before revealing himself, Chi You believed his Human-born body concealed his Witch identity well enough that even Saints would mistake him for a Human Race cultivator of Witch Mantras 179 181.

As Clan Leader, he led the Nine Li Tribe, whose bronze tools and iron weapons surpassed those commonly used by the surrounding Human Race. The tribe remained part of the Human Race at this stage, though its members increasingly awakened Witch Clan bloodlines under Chi You's influence 179 180.

Hong Ze exposed Chi You's bloodline and explained that the Witch Clan's rise was part of the Heavenly Dao's trial for the Human Race. Convinced by Hong Ze's command of the Pangu All Things Sutra, Chi You accepted him as master and became a third-generation direct disciple of the Jie Sect 180.

Appearance

Originally, Chi You was described as tall and mighty. After his body was dismembered at Zhuolu and recovered, Master Tongtian reassembled it and Laozi refined it for forty-nine days in the Eight Trigrams Furnace, changing him into a child appearing slightly older than ten 273.

Personality

Chi You initially possessed considerable confidence in his Great Witch strength and believed few non-Saints could rival him. Visiting Hong Ze Dao Palace, where even attendants had reached peak Great Luo Golden Immortal cultivation, tempered this arrogance and made him recognize the distance he still had to travel 184.

He is fiercely loyal to Hong Ze and reacts strongly to insults against his master. When Daoist Lu Ya disparaged Hong Ze, Chi You attacked him and threatened to reduce him to ashes if the disrespect continued 260.

Hong Ze's guidance also changed Chi You's outlook on the Human Race. Rather than pursuing the Witch Clan's supremacy, he came to value Human wisdom and sought a future in which the Witch Clan could gain Primordial Spirits and coexist with other races 216.

Recruitment into the Jie Sect

Hong Ze approached Chi You in the Nine Li Tribe to prevent him from becoming merely a weapon of the Heavenly Dao's plan. After learning the truth of the Witch Clan's destined conflict with the Human Race, Chi You became Hong Ze's direct disciple and entered the Jie Sect as a third-generation disciple 180.

Ascension as an Ancestral Witch

Hong Ze taught Chi You the Pangu All Things Sutra, enabling him to cultivate multiple elements. In the Nine Underworlds, Ping Xin Niangniang and the Ten Kings of Hell supplied twelve drops of Ancestral Witch essence blood, while Hong Ze saturated Chi You with Heavenly Dao Merit. Chi You survived the process and became an Ancestral Witch 186 196.

Leader of the Witch Clan

The Great Witches acknowledged Chi You as their Ancestral Witch and leader. Following an epiphany prompted by Hong Ze, Chi You rejected the idea that the Witch Clan should replace the Human Race; instead, he committed himself to helping the Witches gain Primordial Spirits and preserve their future 205 216.

Battle of Zhuolu

Chi You led the Nine Li Tribe to Zhuolu and established the Twelve Divine Heavens Great Sorcery Formation. His forces repeatedly defeated Xuanyuan Huangdi's army, even after the Human side acquired South-Pointing Chariots to counter Feng Bo and Yu Shi's fog 234 238.

When the Elucidation Sect's Twelve Golden Immortals entered the formation, Chi You pressed them with the Ancestral Witch Flags. The formation was ultimately sabotaged by the disguised Twelve Divine Generals, allowing Chi You to be captured and brought before Xuanyuan Huangdi 268.

Death Tribulation and Hidden Return

Guang Chengzi used the Xuanyuan Sword to dismember Chi You and distributed his body parts for suppression. Hong Ze preserved Chi You's soul in the Void Painting, recovered his remains, and brought him back to Golden Turtle Island 269 270 272.

Master Tongtian and Laozi restored Chi You's body, but transformed him into a childlike form that conceals his Ancestral Witch identity. He subsequently returned to Hong Ze Dao Palace, where even Xiao Bai and Xiao She failed to recognize him 273 275.
