History
Early structure and internal division
Master Tongtian teaches at Biyou Palace without discrimination, attracting both established disciples and countless newly sentient demon beasts. The sect's size and diversity are central to Tongtian's pride, but they also create a wide gap in cultivation and temperament among its members. 1 53
When Tongtian leaves for Zixiao Palace, he appoints Hong Ze—then only at the Heavenly Immortal realm—to oversee the sect. Many disciples object to Hong Ze's seniority, especially Duobao Daoren, who believes that his earlier admission under Tongtian entitled him to be Eldest Senior Brother. 1
Duobao, Pi Lu Xian, and Chang Er Ding Guang Xian repeatedly exploit this dissatisfaction. They challenge Hong Ze's authority, spread the Shangqing Dream Realm among disciples, and seek to replace him as the sect's leading disciple. 6 22
Reform under Hong Ze
After learning through the Investiture of the Gods that the Jie Sect is destined for ruin, Hong Ze and Wu Dang Mother begin seeking Human Race destiny through the Three Sovereigns and Five Emperors. They treat foreknowledge of the prophecy as an advantage that can change the sect's future rather than as an unavoidable sentence. 31 32
Hong Ze brings tens of thousands of disciples to the Profound Gate Three Sects Dao Discussion Assembly, rejecting the proposal that only a small elite should represent the sect. He organizes them into cultivation-based echelons for the Heavenly Ladder trial and uses the assembly to defend them against Yuanshi Tianzun's contempt. 49 52 53 54
The Jie Sect ultimately wins the assembly. Hong Ze uses the Kongtong Seal to establish Fuxi's future position and appoints Wu Dang Mother as Fuxi's teacher, giving the sect a decisive foothold in Human Race destiny. 66
Cleansing the sect and rebuilding Biyou Palace
Hong Ze begins rebuilding Biyou Palace as a nine-story structure intended to consolidate sect luck. He funds the project through voluntary contributions of Heavenly Materials and Earthly Treasures, promising that contributors will be recorded on a Merit Stele. 73 74 76
The rebuilding effort exposes internal disloyalty. Pi Lu Xian's use and distribution of the Western-origin Great Dream Sutra is revealed; he is killed by Chang Er Ding Guang Xian after attempting to flee. 76
Hong Ze does not remove every suspected Western Sect sympathizer. Instead, he retains certain infiltrators—including Duobao Daoren—as known variables, intending to turn their anticipated betrayal against the Western Sect during the Investiture of the Gods. 144
Investiture of the Gods preparations
Hong Ze reveals that the Book of Heaven, the Investiture of the Gods, can list 365 main gods and 84,000 constellation fiends. Those listed are fated to die, have their True Spirits enter the book, and become Heavenly Court gods under its holder's authority. 136 166
To prevent the Jie Sect from bearing the list alone, Hong Ze writes the names of the major races, realms, and sects onto the Investiture. The book accepts the entries, after which the Saints and Heavenly Court rulers add their own names. 174 175
The finalized agreement turns the coming conflict into an immeasurable tribulation in which all factions depend on their own luck. Control of the Investiture will belong to whichever sect gains the disciple bearing the Flying Bear Sign. 175

Notable policies and practices
- Inclusive participation — Hong Ze insists that all disciples, not merely a selected elite, should gain experience at the Three Sects Dao Debate Assembly. 49
- Formation-based strength — Disciples with weaker cultivation are encouraged to rely on formations and spiritual treasures, allowing them to contend with stronger opponents. 54 55
- Strict rewards and punishments — Contributions to the Nine-Tiered Biyou Palace receive public recognition, while actions that damage sect reputation or leak sect luck are treated as capital offenses. 76 97
- Strategic restraint — During the battle against Chi You's formation, Jie Sect disciples are ordered to incapacitate Nine Li tribesmen rather than kill them, avoiding unnecessary killing karma. 257 267
- Unity over individual status — Hong Ze's protection and leadership make disciples increasingly reliant on him, but this reliance also produces unusual internal harmony. 247
