Background / History

Yuji’s grandfather left him with the injunction to help others. While gathering his grandfather’s cremated remains, Yuji decides to consume Sukuna’s scattered fingers because they attract curses and endanger ordinary people. He understands that completing this task will eventually mean execution for both himself and Sukuna 2.

Before entering Jujutsu High, Yuji was an ordinary student with exceptional physical abilities but no foundation in cursed energy control. His transformation into a vessel, introduction to jujutsu society, and enrollment happen within a few days, leaving his new life feeling unreal 5 6.

Appearance

Personality

Yuji is outgoing, affectionate, and quick to include others. He counts Sukuna among his classmates, introduces him to the second-years as a companion, and insists that they will like him once they get to know him. His social ease also turns an investigation of Junpei Yoshino into a friendly dinner with Junpei and his mother within hours 3 6 42.

His kindness is practical rather than merely verbal. He offers Sukuna time outside their shared body, spends nearly all his available money on a kimono Sukuna likes, and promises to eat Sukuna’s cake even if it turns out badly. He later describes Sukuna as the older brother he imagines having 4 18 48.

Yuji trains stubbornly through pain and exhaustion because he wants to become stronger and stop holding others back. He also recognizes that relying on Sukuna for every fight could endanger their permission to remain alive. Nevertheless, his complete confidence in Sukuna sometimes makes him reckless: he volunteers for special grade missions and sneaks away to investigate Mahito’s meeting place despite knowing Nanami would object 4 8 13 15 31 46.

Deaths affect him deeply. Finding the detention center’s victims turns his sorrow into anger, while learning that he killed a transfigured human leaves him shaken and unable to steady his hand. Sukuna’s reassurance helps him recover his resolve to stop the curse responsible 21 41.

Yuji’s innate physical ability is formidable even before he learns cursed energy control 5 7.
