Background / History

At age eight, Sasuke survived the Uchiha Clan Annihilation Night as the clan's sole remaining member. He believed his older brother, Itachi Uchiha, murdered their parents and every other Uchiha. Sasuke therefore devoted himself to restoring the clan and personally killing Itachi. 3

During Team Seven's survival exercise, Sasuke learned that Kakashi had ties to Itachi, Obito, the Fourth Hokage, and the Uchiha. Convinced Kakashi could provide the strength and guidance necessary for revenge, Sasuke became determined to pass Kakashi's assessment and train under him. 13

The discovery of Shisui Uchiha's corpse deepened Sasuke's hatred. He mourned Shisui as an older brother figure and concluded that Itachi had murdered him for power, motivating Sasuke to pursue every available piece of intelligence about his brother. 15 16

Sasuke responded to Naruto's rapid growth by intensifying his own training. He obtained Shisui's Body Flicker and taijutsu notes, Uchiha Sharingan training records, Fire Release techniques, and Clone Great Explosion from Granny Cat's shop. 17 66

Danzō Shimura later attempted to recruit Sasuke, offering the truth of the clan massacre and aid in obtaining revenge. Sasuke was tempted by the prospect of answers but did not immediately accept, remaining wary of Danzō's motives. 56

Personality

Sasuke is driven by a deeply personal obligation to rebuild the Uchiha Clan and avenge its destruction. This focus makes him methodical about gathering intelligence on Itachi, but also leaves him vulnerable to offers from anyone who claims to know the truth. 3 16 56

He is fiercely competitive, especially with Naruto. Naruto surpassing him repeatedly becomes a source of frustration and a major motivation for Sasuke's relentless training. His pride can become overconfidence, as seen when he expected to defeat Rock Lee within a minute before Lee revealed the first five gates. 35 116 117

Although blunt and poor at expressing remorse, Sasuke is protective of his teammates. After Naruto was wounded while Sasuke was controlled, Sasuke tried to compensate by taking responsibility for the remaining enemies himself. 22
