Background / History

After being freed, Kitahara told his brother that he wanted to live freely as a crow. His brother used a golden light to grant the wish, transporting him into the ninja world in the body of a crow. Kitahara retained his human memories and consciousness, but could only communicate through cawing. 1

Shortly after arriving in a forest, Kitahara saved the young Uchiha Itachi from falling off a cliff. He recognized the significance of Itachi's name and became interested in the child, who in turn treated the crow warmly. 1

Kitahara accompanied Itachi to Konoha and eventually took up residence in Itachi's room. Mikoto Uchiha accepted him as Itachi's intelligent ninja-crow friend, while Itachi prepared a small bed for him by the window. 2 3

As Itachi's companion, Kitahara joins his daily training in the woods and his walks through Konoha. He quietly comforts Itachi when the boy feels isolated from children his own age. 2 4

Appearance

Kitahara is an unusually large, intimidating black crow, at one point described as larger than young Itachi's head. His appearance often unsettles other children despite his gentle behavior toward Itachi. 2

Personality

Kitahara remains mentally human and is keenly aware of the absurdity of his transformation. He initially struggles with being unable to speak, but adjusts to life as a crow while privately considering the ninja world's future and the powers sealed within him. 1 4

Despite his fierce appearance, he is protective and considerate toward Itachi. He saves the child without hesitation, comforts him when he feels lonely, and accepts the care Itachi gives him in return. 1 2 4
