Background / History
During the late Warring States period, Madara led the Uchiha as clan head. He and Senju Hashirama ended the era’s warfare and founded Konoha, but Madara’s forceful temperament and lack of an heir ended the Uchiha’s collective New Year shrine visit; the duty thereafter passed to the sitting clan head’s family. 8
Madara and Hashirama were once close friends, but their relationship collapsed after Madara left Konoha. He later attacked Konoha with the Nine-Tails and fought Hashirama at the Valley of the End, where Hashirama believed he had killed him. Madara in fact survived by using Izanagi, later awakening the Rinnegan. 228 222 270
Orochimaru receives Madara’s elderly corpse from Zetsu and revives him through Impure World Reincarnation. Restored to his prime, Madara defeats Rasa with little difficulty and begins working with Black Zetsu and Orochimaru to gather tailed beasts and revive the Ten-Tails. 234 235 238
Warring States-period storyline
As a young Uchiha, Madara becomes responsible for accommodating Otsutsuki Kaguya after she enters Uchiha territory. He cooks and hunts for her, learns fragments of her history, and eventually discovers that she is the ancestor of both the Uchiha and Senju clans. The revelation drives him into the emotional crisis that awakens his Mangekyō Sharingan. 444 451 452 453
Madara seeks an end to the Uchiha–Senju war through strength and captures Tobirama as leverage, forcing Hashirama to agree to an alliance between their clans. 460
Appearance
Madara is depicted as a long-haired Uchiha whose eyes flash crimson when he activates his dōjutsu. He commonly wears plate armor in battle; after becoming the Ten-Tails’ Jinchūriki, his hair turns white and he develops Kaguya-like horns. 271 320 359
- Crimson Sharingan and Rinnegan eyes. 320 350
- Plate armor worn during his command of the Sand Village’s forces. 271
- Blue, three-headed and six-armed Perfect Susanoo. 321
- White hair and twin horns after absorbing the Ten-Tails and Kaguya’s chakra. 359
Personality
Madara is intensely proud of both his own strength and the Uchiha clan. He frequently measures opponents against Hashirama, praises exceptional talent, and then asserts his own superiority. He considers Itachi a genuine genius, yet still insists that Itachi was born in the wrong era to challenge him. 321
He is persistent to the point of recklessness. Even after Black Zetsu’s deception is exposed and Kaguya is defeated, Madara refuses to abandon the pursuit of power, seeing force as the only reliable means to impose peace and prevent another war like the one that killed Izuna. 359
Madara is also suspicious of those around him. Orochimaru’s report that Black Zetsu had mastered Flying Thunder God Technique causes him to question whether the will he created had betrayed him. 250
Abilities & Skills
Sharingan and Mangekyō Sharingan
Madara possesses exceptional ocular prowess and can accurately track attacks, place opponents under genjutsu, and manifest increasingly powerful forms of Susanoo.
- His Sharingan traps multiple Land of Earth ninja in genjutsu simultaneously. 467
- His Mangekyō Sharingan manifests the healing-oriented technique Longevity. 457
- Longevity has no direct offensive function and consumes chakra to preserve his body and heal damage. 457
- He regards Mangekyō techniques such as Amaterasu as dangerous even when wielded by younger Uchiha. 237
Rinnegan
Madara’s Rinnegan evolves from his Mangekyō Sharingan after the Valley of the End and grants him access to high-level Six Paths techniques. 270
- Limbo: Border Jail — An invisible force strikes down Heavenly Path Pain before it can respond. 350
- Chibaku Tensei — Used to disengage from Hashirama and Tobirama after attacking the Rain Village. 268
- Universal Pull — Draws Asura and Hashirama toward him after he absorbs Kaguya’s power. 359
- Outer Path techniques — Participates in reviving the Ten-Tails through the Outer Path Statue. 350
Susanoo
Madara’s Susanoo is his principal defensive and offensive dōjutsu manifestation.
- His Second Form Susanoo initially shields him from Itachi’s Sage Art: Needle Jizō, though the sustained attack shatters it. 321
- His Perfect Susanoo is a giant blue construct with three heads, six arms, and multiple swords. 321
- He later combines his Susanoo with the Ten-Tails’ power as Armored Susanoo: Ten-Tails. 361
- His Susanoo can resist chakra-sealing projectiles, as dōjutsu cannot be sealed by Itachi’s feather senbon. 188
Fire Release
Madara’s Fire Release is powerful enough that a B-rank technique produces forbidden-jutsu-level intensity.
- Fire Style: Great Fire Annihilation — Overpowers Rasa’s Magnet Style: Gold Dust World Law. 235
- Uses the same technique during his clash with Tobirama in the Fourth Shinobi War. 188
Space-Time Ninjutsu
In the Warring States-period storyline, Madara studies Flying Thunder God Technique after Kaguya teaches him about it.
- He initially finds the technique much harder to learn than expected. 450
- He later uses Flying Thunder God marks to instantly close distance on Retsu and defeat him. 457 464
Six Paths Power
After receiving Kaguya’s chakra and later absorbing the Ten-Tails, Madara acquires Six Paths-level abilities.
- Forms and controls Truth-Seeking Orbs. 355 359
- Uses a Truth-Seeking Orb to pierce Kaguya’s heart and extract the Ten-Tails. 359
- Blocks Itachi’s Truth-Seeking Orb attack with his own orbs. 359
- Activates the Infinite Tsukuyomi to harvest chakra from the entire world. 360
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Gunbai fan — Used while charging Itachi and Tobirama during the Fourth Shinobi War. 188
- Ninja sword — Wielded alongside Susanoo and in close-range combat. 321 464
- Flying Thunder God-marked kunai — Used for space-time movement in the Warring States-period storyline. 464
- Truth-Seeking Orbs — Six black orbs granted through Six Paths chakra, later expanded after becoming the Ten-Tails’ Jinchūriki. 355 359
Relationships
- Senju Hashirama — Former friend, lifelong rival, and Konoha co-founder. Madara values Hashirama’s strength but also resents what he sees as betrayal at the Valley of the End. 228 250
- Senju Tobirama — Bitter enemy associated with Izuna’s death. Madara captures him to force Hashirama into negotiating an alliance. 250 460
- Uchiha Izuna — Younger brother and Madara’s most important family bond. Their eye transplant awakens Madara’s Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan. 457
- Black Zetsu — Adviser and manipulator who guides Madara toward the Rinnegan and Kaguya’s resurrection; Madara ultimately betrays Kaguya and ruins Zetsu’s plan. 351 359
- Orochimaru — Uneasy ally who revives Madara and provides a base in the Sand Village. Madara treats him as a subordinate, while Orochimaru considers Madara’s unchecked power dangerous. 235 250 271
- Uchiha Obito — Co-conspirator in the Moon Eye Plan. Their cooperation breaks down when Obito attempts to claim the Ten-Tails for himself. 188 350
- Uchiha Itachi — A younger clansman Madara considers extraordinarily gifted. They fight at Loulan and later clash after Madara becomes the Ten-Tails’ Jinchūriki. 321 359
- Otsutsuki Kaguya — Temporary ally and Uchiha ancestor. She grants him Six Paths chakra, but Madara later steals her Ten-Tails and Chakra Fruit. 352 355 359
Story Role / Major Arcs
Revival and Sand Village

He eventually leaves the Sand Village after becoming wary of Black Zetsu and uncomfortable with Orochimaru’s schemes. 235 250
Tailed Beast Campaign
Madara attacks the Rain Village, kills Kitsuchi, and escapes Hashirama and Tobirama with Chibaku Tensei. He later endorses Orochimaru’s takeover of the Land of Wind because the resulting political crisis distracts the other villages from disappearing Jinchūriki. 268 271
Dragon Vein Conflict
At Loulan, Madara attempts to claim the Dragon Vein’s chakra and battles Namikaze Minato before confronting Itachi. He deploys Perfect Susanoo, Limbo, and Heavenly Transfer Celestial Star, but Beiyuan absorbs the Dragon Vein’s chakra and forces Madara to flee. 320 321 323
Ten-Tails and Infinite Tsukuyomi
Madara revives the Ten-Tails, briefly loses it to Obito and Black Zetsu’s interference, then allies with Kaguya. After Kaguya is defeated, he betrays her, becomes the Ten-Tails’ Jinchūriki, absorbs her Chakra Fruit, and casts the Infinite Tsukuyomi. 350 352 359 360
Defeat and Konoha Custody
Madara’s conflict with Itachi continues after the Infinite Tsukuyomi. Following the battle’s resolution and Hagoromo’s arrival, Itachi declares that Madara’s crimes should be handled by Konoha and takes him back alongside Kaguya and the Outer Path Statue. 361 362
