Background / History

Chen Xuan was a young man from the twenty-first century who had studied his way out of the countryside. Before transmigrating, he lived in a rented apartment, watched anime, and was looking for work. Don’t Bully the Poor Youth was adapted from a novel he had loved since middle school, and Queen Medusa was his favorite character 1.

When a mysterious computer interface asked which world he would choose to enter, he selected Don’t Bully the Poor Youth. After going to sleep, he dreamed of becoming Medusa and then awakened in her palace with her voice, snake tail, and body. The Symbiosis System revealed that he possessed her cultivation strength 1.

His presence did not replace Medusa’s soul. They shared one body, with Chen Xuan controlling it during the day and Medusa at night. Medusa initially treated him as an intruder and confined their body within the tribe’s ancestral grounds, intending to kill them both if necessary. Chen Xuan instead sought her cooperation through a plan to improve the tribe’s future, a Heaven-tier technique, and a bone hairpin. She eventually accepted their arrangement while imposing eighteen rules governing his conduct and responsibilities 7 10 12 15.

Chen Xuan combines ambitious planning with a playful, frequently provocative manner. He dreams of reaching the world’s summit and unifying the Black-Corner Region, but learns early that plot knowledge and system rewards cannot substitute for genuine strength 2 6. His persistence is particularly evident in alchemy: repeated failures and exhausted soul power do not diminish his desire to become a top-tier master 24 25.

He is pragmatic about enemies and political opportunities. Rather than kill Jia Xingtian, he secures passage for the tribe and compensation in pills. He also recognizes that indiscriminate plundering would unite human factions against the Snake-People Tribe 21 22 47. This pragmatism can be coercive: he orders Gu He’s capture before offering him recruitment incentives and threatens Hai Bodong with death to force a decision 30 32 48 49.

Medusa finds his belief that all lives are equal unusual for the Dou Qi Continent. He recognizes affection, friendship, and family bonds among the Snake-People rather than treating them as inherently different from humans 10 36. In private, however, he enjoys theatrical complaints, self-admiration, and teasing Medusa—sometimes spoiling an affectionate moment with a suggestive remark 25 36.
