The stages below track the city’s defenders and affiliated forces, rather than a cultivation rank belonging to the city itself.

Geography and Layout

• Demon Blade Mountain Range: Extends several hundred li and resembles a great saber from above. Its treacherous terrain contains abundant magical beasts and medicinal materials, with rumors of Dou Emperor-level beasts 157 158.
• Surrounding territory: The former Demon Blade Sect controlled land extending several hundred li around the city 158.
• Southern district: Contains the former sect headquarters, renamed the Sacred Hall. Quieter than the eastern and western districts, it faces the mountain range beyond the southern gate 157.
• Residential divisions: The Snake-People Tribe’s eight tribes settle in eight separate sections of the city rather than expelling the existing human population 158.
• Walls and gates: Renovated dark walls are guarded by snake-person squads, with aerial patrols protecting the approaches 169 197.

Government and City Rules

Chen Xuan rejects an elder’s proposal to remove the human inhabitants. His administration instead preserves the city’s tax base, encourages cooperation between races, and ties access to valuable resources to responsibility for the city’s defense 158.

The fighting ban is enforced publicly when Hai Bodong, Ji Xuan, Gu Luo, and Black Mountain pursue and kill two Dou Emperor offenders. Their corpses are nailed to the gate with ice arrows, causing subsequent visitors to conceal their auras and behave cautiously 168.

Economy and Facilities

Medicinal Trade

• Natural supply: Rare medicinal materials from the neighboring mountain range were the principal source of the city’s prosperity under the Demon Blade Sect 158.
• Pill shop: Chen Xuan establishes the city’s largest pill shop, selling first- through fifth-grade pills at prices ten percent below market rates. Stock includes breakthrough, cultivation-strengthening, and dou qi recovery pills 158.
• Street markets: Human and snake-person businesses operate alongside mercenary stalls. Xiao Yan finds plentiful second- and third-tier materials and purchases several fourth-tier herbs 169.
• Regional exports: The city supplies other settlements with strategic resources such as pills and medicinal materials 200.
• Resident benefits: Discounts on pills, techniques, and medicinal materials encourage settlement and participation in the city’s defense 158 200.

Demon Cloud Auction House

• Established by Chen Xuan soon after the tribe’s arrival; Ya Fei later manages it as pavilion master 159 302.
• Its early grand auction attracts major Black-Corner Region factions with Dou Ling Pills, Emperor’s Extreme Pills, Earth Tier cultivation methods, and Sect Breaking Pills 168.
• By the Sovereign King Hall’s rise to continental prominence, the lavishly expanded building hosts more than twenty Dou Zong experts, numerous Dou Emperors and Dou Wangs, and visitors from outside the Black-Corner Region 302.

Sacred Hall

• Occupies the Demon Blade Sect’s former grounds, which are larger and more scenic than the tribe’s previous Sacred Hall 157.
• Serves as the venue for banquets, audiences, leadership meetings, and gatherings of regional factions 157 164 216 292.
• Contains the underground Secret Chamber where Chen Xuan undertakes the seclusion leading to his Dou Zun breakthrough 234.

Guest Accommodation

• The tribe operates luxurious inns charging ten thousand gold coins per night, with protection against disturbances and fighting 169.
• Sixth-floor accommodation is reserved for influential guests, normally at least High-Rank Dou Emperor. Queen Medusa’s purple token secures Xiao Yan a free Honored Guest room despite his lower cultivation 169.

Later Infrastructure

• Eleven Sovereign King Hall Dou Zun experts establish three teleportation arrays near the city, including routes toward the Jia Ma Empire and Black Stone City 296.
• Saint Tongtian’s small world is relocated into the neighboring Demon Blade Mountain Range. Entry is restricted to Sovereign King Hall token holders 302.

Background and History

Transfer to the Snake-People Tribe

The Black Emperor Sect destroys the Demon Blade Sect and secures Demon Cloud City for its Snake-People Tribe partners. Che Cheng and Mo Ya receive the migrating tribe at the gates. Although many wealthy or influential humans have already fled, minor factions and over a million ordinary inhabitants remain, initially anxious about nonhuman rule 157.

The tribe’s settlement arrangements are largely completed by nightfall, and the former sect headquarters becomes the Sacred Hall. Over the following month, Chen Xuan provides housing and other necessities while reorganizing the neglected city. Renovation and sanitation measures transform its appearance 157 158.

Emergence as a Safe Haven

Gu He’s public gratitude toward Queen Medusa, together with Hai Bodong’s position among the tribe, helps reduce human distrust. Visiting factions find humans and snake-people trading in an orderly community, with conditions substantially improved from the former administration 168.

After the grand auction, factions threatened by Lion Nether Sect experts retreat into the city for protection. Chen Xuan charges each group five hundred thousand gold coins for entry while maintaining the fighting ban. Han Feng remains to cultivate rather than risk leaving, and the city’s reputation for safety draws further attention 173 175.

Growing trade and security subsequently encourage human experts to move in with their families. Dou Wang residents become common, and several Dou Huang experts also settle permanently 198.

Xiao Clan Settlement and Regional Unification

Following the Soul Hall’s attack on the Xiao Clan, Xiao Yan arranges for the survivors to relocate to Demon Cloud City. Mo Bass escorts several hundred clan members safely through the Black-Corner Region. Queen Medusa grants them ownership of a residence, while the tribe offers employment assistance and support for potential businesses 195 200.

The city later hosts the gathering associated with Queen Medusa’s seventh-rank alchemy breakthrough and the expansion of the Sovereign King Hall. Su Qian estimates that more than a hundred Dou Wang-or-higher experts have arrived, yet the streets remain orderly. At the Sacred Hall, Chen Xuan’s arrival prevents Xiao Yan and Han Feng from beginning a fight 214 216.

Soul Hall Attack

While Queen Medusa is away in the Jia Ma Empire, Han Feng attacks with five Soul Hall Dou Zong experts. He claims to have deliberately drawn her away, while the Soul Hall’s principal objective is to capture Yao Chen. Snake Ji, the eight tribal leaders, Gu He, the Gold and Silver Elders, and Little Scale mobilize in defense 229.

Little Scale severely wounds Han Feng, and Gu He deploys a Heavenly Demon Puppet. Yao Chen moves his confrontation with the Gold Protector onto the plains to avoid civilian casualties; the other defenders engage the attackers outside the city, with Snake Ji and Gu He using the Eight Gates to increase their combat strength 229 230.

Expansion and Later Returns

During Chen Xuan’s extended seclusion, an enormous energy vortex grows to cover the city’s sky for more than half a year. It slightly accelerates residents’ cultivation without interrupting normal operations. By this period, Demon Cloud City has millions of inhabitants and is recognized as the Black-Corner Region’s greatest city 234.

Chen Xuan’s later return reveals a city several times larger, with an estimated population approaching ten million. The Sacred Hall becomes the command center during the Lion Nether Sect threat, and nearly eighty percent of Sovereign King Hall members gather in the city 292 293.

After the Lion Nether Sect’s defeat, the hall’s rise as the Northwest Continent’s foremost faction attracts further outside experts. Years later, Chen Xuan returns with Zi Yan and finds the city comparable to some great Central Plains cities. Its inhabitants celebrate Queen Medusa’s achievements as a Dou Sheng and leader of the Underworld Alliance 296 377.
