Abilities & Methods

Soul Capture and Soul-Origin Extraction

  • Soul Hall agents specialize in capturing powerful soul bodies; their techniques are particularly dangerous to experts who exist only as souls 144 223.
  • Captured souls at the Dead Soul Mountain Range branch were confined to stone pillars and had their soul origin extracted, leaving them without their wills 288.
  • Extracted soul origin is pure soul power capable of greatly strengthening another soul 288 290.
  • Yao Chen was especially valuable because his heaven-realm soul could yield more soul power than dozens or hundreds of spirit-realm souls 309.

Chains and Restraints

  • Soul Chains restrained Yao Chen and enabled the Gold Protector to capture him 230.
  • Nine-Soul Chains were used by Iron Protector, but Chen Xuan survived and shattered them through physical strength 184.
  • A black-robed operative used chilling spatial chains against Heavenly Fire Venerable’s soul body 223.

Soul-Consumption Techniques

  • Ten Thousand Souls Devouring Spirit Formation — An unnamed protector released black mist that killed the Black-Corner Region troops fighting alongside him and tore out their souls 145.
  • Soul-powered mist form — The same protector absorbed the power of tens of thousands of souls, rose from Six-Star to Seven-Star Dou Zong, and merged his body into black mist 146.
  • Limit — Chen Xuan’s Green Lotus Core Flame consumed that mist and completely destroyed the protector 146.

Blood-Devouring Art

  • Blood River Venerable killed nearly a hundred Starfall Pavilion disciples to raise his strength to Five-Revolution Dou Zun 310.
  • After losing control, he absorbed the blood of dozens of Soul Hall experts and reached Six-Revolution Dou Zun 310.
  • The technique endangered his own side as well as the enemy; other senior members fled from its reach 310.

Spatial Techniques and Sealing Arrays

  • Gold and Silver Protectors escaped Wutan City through a spatial passage, taking Xiao Zhan with them 194.
  • Ghost Spirit Old Man’s Void Yin-Yang Palm imprisoned surrounding space and approached Heaven-Rank power, according to Heavenly Fire Venerable’s assessment 228.
  • The Eighth Heavenly Venerate used a spatial cage against Chen Xuan, who broke it with soul power 295.
  • Heavenly Net Demon Sealing Array — An ancient Soul Hall array used by Hun Miesheng against the Purifying Lotus Demon Flame. Although it appeared to seal the flame, Chen Xuan revealed that the flame had deliberately allowed this to happen 362 363.

Coercion and Expendable Forces

  • The Soul Hall helped Yun Shan advance to Dou Zong, then demanded powerful souls and threatened to destroy the Misty Cloud Sect if he failed 137 238.
  • Agents sacrificed allied troops and their own personnel to strengthen their techniques 145 310.
  • Cornered members resorted to self-detonation, including a protector during the Jia Ma Empire conflict and the Eighth Heavenly Venerate 228 295.

History

Northwest Operations

Chen Xuan first identified the Soul Hall’s involvement after Yue Mei returned from the Misty Cloud Sect bearing a curse seal. He removed it with the Green Lotus Core Flame but advised against provoking the responsible expert at that time 131.

Mo Tianxing subsequently confirmed that the Soul Hall supported Han Feng and Earth Demon Old Ghost’s offensive against the Snake-People Tribe. Chen Xuan suspected that a large-scale battle would allow it to harvest the tribe’s powerful souls 144.

During the battle, a Six-Star Dou Zong protector sacrificed the Black-Corner Region army through his soul formation. Chen Xuan defeated him and Earth Demon Old Ghost with Heaven-Devour, then burned the protector away before he could consume Earth Demon Old Ghost’s surviving soul 145 146.

Jia Ma Empire Conflicts

Iron Protector intervened on the Chu Yun Empire’s side and fought Chen Xuan alongside Xie Biyan. Both drew strength from soldiers’ souls or blood, but fled after Chen Xuan used the Eight Gates Technique to reach middle-stage Eight-Star Dou Zong 184.

In a later confrontation, a Soul Hall operative joined the forces opposing Jia Ma and summoned Ghost Spirit Old Man. Chen Xuan killed the Venerable and diverted the remaining protector’s self-detonation into a spatial vortex 223 224 228.

The organization also tightened its hold over Yun Shan. After Chen Xuan refused to rescue him from the Soul Hall’s demands, Yun Shan chose to collect souls by attacking the Jia Ma Empire, despite Yun Yun and Nalan Yanran’s objections 238.

Xiao Clan Massacre and Yao Chen’s Capture

The Gold and Silver Protectors devastated the Xiao Clan compound in Wutan City while searching for a piece of jade. They escaped with Xiao Zhan despite Queen Medusa’s intervention. Half the clan had survived because Xiao Zhan had sent them away beforehand 194.

Medusa and Yao Chen identified the likely target as the Tou She Ancient God Jade. The surviving Xiao Clan members subsequently relocated to Demon Cloud City to avoid another attack 195 200.

The protectors later exploited a scheme that drew Medusa away from Demon Cloud City. Yao Chen held off the Gold Protector to let Xiao Yan escape, but was captured with Soul Chains and taken through a Spatial Vortex 229 230.

Central Plains Clashes and the Branch Rescue

Soul Hall experts continued pursuing Chen Xuan in the Central Plains. Star-Picking Old Ghost escaped a group of Dou Zun experts by relinquishing the Dou Saint Ruins map, while Old Man Mu Gu’s later soul attack failed to overwhelm Chen Xuan 259 272. Xuan Kongzi intervened during another assassination attempt, and the Pill Tower offered Chen Xuan protection 284 285.

Chen Xuan joined Xiao Yan, Venerable Feng, and their allies in attacking the Dead Soul Mountain Range branch. While Chen Xuan occupied the Black and White Heavenly Venerables, Xiao Yan advanced into the hall to rescue Yao Chen 288.

The rescue succeeded, and Chen Xuan took the branch’s accumulated soul origin from its collapsed stone pillars. News of the branch’s destruction spread despite efforts to keep it secret 290 291.

The Eighth Heavenly Venerate subsequently confronted Chen Xuan over the lost soul origin. Unable to defeat him, the Venerate self-destructed; Chen Xuan contained the blast in a spatial cage, though the battlefield still suffered extensive destruction 295.

Assault on Starfall Pavilion

The Soul Hall shattered the Starfall Grand Array and attacked with Blood River Venerable, Mo Yu, Old Man Mu Gu, Star-Picking Old Ghost, and the Black and White Heavenly Venerables. Its objectives included killing Medusa and capturing Xiao Yan alive 310 311 312.

Medusa killed Mo Yu immediately, while Blood River Venerable sacrificed fighters from both sides to increase his strength. The Third Heavenly Venerate then engaged Chen Xuan, but failed to secure victory 310 313.

Yao Chen emerged with Half-Saint strength, giving the defenders a second combatant at that level. The Third Heavenly Venerate ordered a retreat, leaving the Soul Hall’s operation defeated, although Starfall Pavilion had lost many disciples 313 314.

War with the Underworld Alliance

Over the following two years, Soul Hall activity intensified across the continent. Starfall Pavilion and Sovereign King Hall became primary targets, while the disappearance of the Stone and Spirit Clans diverted the ancient clans’ attention from these operations 342.

To oppose it, Chen Xuan and Medusa helped establish the Underworld Alliance, uniting Sovereign King Hall, Starfall Pavilion, the Pill Tower, Burning Flame Valley, the Flower Sect, the Ancient Void Dragon Clan, and the Nine Netherworld Python Clan 344 349 350.

After an initial period of inactivity, the Soul Hall attacked alliance cities and headquarters. An assault on Burning Flame Valley involving two Dou Sheng experts failed when reinforcements arrived; one attacker was killed. The alliance responded by consolidating around Sacred Pill City and investigating the hidden Heaven Hall 355.

Hun Miesheng postponed personally destroying the alliance until after the Purifying Lotus Demon Flame appeared. During that struggle, his sealing array failed to secure the flame, Xiao Chen injured him, and Chen Xuan exposed Soul Demon Elder’s concealed presence 356 362 363.

Defeat and Destruction

While Chen Xuan remained in seclusion, the Soul Hall launched a surprise offensive with seven Dou Sheng experts, many supplied by the Hun Clan. Even their combined attacks failed to damage the Underworld Alliance’s Emperor Spirit Grand Formation. The alliance counterattacked, killing two attackers and severely wounding the remaining five 367.

Within half a month, the alliance struck Soul Hall branches across the Central Plains and sent five Dou Sheng experts against its Main Hall. Two of the three Dou Sheng defenders died; Hun Miesheng escaped after losing an arm. The campaign wiped out the Soul Hall’s Central Plains forces 368.

The Underworld Alliance replaced it as the region’s dominant power, but the Hun Clan remained a threat 369. The Soul Hall’s harvested soul origin also survived its destruction: Nihility Devouring Flame later consumed hundreds of soul-origin orbs and advanced his soul to the emperor realm 395.

Relationships

  • Hun Clan — Backer and source of reinforcements. Clan experts supported Soul Hall campaigns against the Underworld Alliance, including the seven-Dou-Sheng offensive 355 356 367.
  • Misty Cloud Sect / Yun Shan — Coerced associate. Cultivation assistance placed Yun Shan under demands to supply powerful souls 137 238.
  • Han Feng and Demon Flame Valley — Collaborators in the campaign against the Snake-People Tribe. Mo Tianxing discovered Soul Hall agents contacting Demon Flame Valley members 144.
  • Heavenly Underworld Sect — Reportedly maintained obscure ties with the Soul Hall; rumors credited Soul Hall backing for its growth 281.
  • Pill Tower — Longstanding rival and later Underworld Alliance member. Its leaders protected Chen Xuan and supported organized resistance 249 284 346.
  • Gu Clan — Sworn enemy. The Gold Protector interpreted Medusa’s use of the Emperor Seal Art as evidence that she served the Gu Clan 194.
  • Xiao Yan and the Xiao Clan — Targets of the jade search and subsequent capture orders. Soul Hall’s seizure of Xiao Zhan became a central motive for Xiao Yan’s resistance 194 195 311.
  • Yao Chen — High-value soul target, captured by the Gold Protector and later rescued from the Dead Soul Mountain Range branch 230 290 309.
  • Chen Xuan and Queen Medusa — Opponents who killed multiple senior members, destroyed a branch, and organized the coalition that ultimately uprooted the Soul Hall 146 228 290 349 368.
  • Underworld Alliance — Decisive rival. Its combined forces defeated the Soul Hall’s major offensive and destroyed its Central Plains network 367 368.
