Background / History

Valley ruler and recruitment

The ape originally ruled a valley in the mountains behind Jia Nan Academy’s Inner Academy. No magical beast within a hundred li dared challenge it. Beneath its lair lay an underground cavern containing earth core body tempering milk; it concealed the entrance with soil, sand, and white fur 65 80.

Chen Cang exploited its territorial behavior by having the Void Pegasus Beast provoke it into leaving its cave. Although the ape refused to pursue beyond the valley, that precaution did not prevent Chen Cang from entering the underground passage. Discovering the theft triggered its Berserk Bloodline, but Chen Cang defeated it with Hidden Dragon Emerging from the Abyss, leaving its right arm hanging limp. He spared it as a future sparring opponent 65 66.

Repeated visits reduced the once-dominant beast to an unwilling host for Chen Cang, Zi Yan, and the Void Pegasus Beast. When Chen Cang offered to take it along, Zi Yan slapped its head while urging it to answer, causing it to fall to its knees. The ape acknowledged Chen Cang as its master and demonstrated that it could shrink enough to travel with him 80 81.

Travels and combat service

In the Black Eagle Mountains, the ape fought alongside Zi Yan and the Void Pegasus Beast against the Blackflame Kui Ox. Chen Cang restrained the ox with the Fallen Heart Flame, and the Void Pegasus Beast ultimately killed it to avenge her mother. Later, the ape executed the eight-star Dou Wang master of the Five Poisons Gate while Chen Cang held the target helpless in an Illusion Realm 88 104.

After entering the Central Plains, it excavated the ten-thousand-year soul-cleansing marrow and Soul-Nourishing Jade located by Zi Yan. Watching a Darknight Azure Wolf undergo its seventh-tier tribulation reinforced its belief that following Chen Cang offered opportunities it could never obtain by remaining a mountain ruler 112 113.

In the Land of Exile, the ape destroyed a Ghost Ju Tribe settlement under the protection of Chen Cang’s Fallen Heart Flame and cleared the surviving Nightmare Demon tribespeople after their leaders fell. During Chen Cang’s subsequent seclusion, it captured Dark Race subjects for his experiments and helped keep watch over them 114 115 118 119.

It later retrieved the Heavenly Poison Scorpion Dragon Beast’s corpse and received Blackflame Kui Ox blood essence to support its own advancement. At Demon Flame Valley, it and the Void Pegasus Beast routed the remaining forces while stronger members of the group handled the leading opponents 121 128.

Human form and household service

Following its sixth-tier breakthrough and transformation, White Ape chiefly guarded the front courtyard of Chen Cang’s Sacred Pill City residence and handled visitors. It also planted a carefully understated false story in a teahouse about a dragon-shaped creature traversing the void, serving Chen Cang’s attempt to attract the Ancient Void Dragon Clan 148 158 159.

White Ape continued accompanying Chen Cang on selected missions. It helped protect Qing Lin during the attack on the Black Fire Sect, challenged Elder Lin’s underestimation of its master, and announced Chen Cang’s eighth-tier alchemy ability during the Dan Family visit that led to Dan Chen’s apprenticeship 161 166 172.

By this point, its strength was useful mainly for supporting duties rather than Chen Cang’s major battles. Chen Cang nevertheless valued its good behavior and ability to speak on his behalf. It later returned with Zi Yan, Medusa, Qing Lin, Dan Chen, Hei Qing, and the transformed Void Pegasus Beast, greeting Chen Cang respectfully 179 189.

Appearance

• Beast form: An enormous, white-furred ape with a hill-like body, palm-fan-sized claws, and a ferocious-looking face even when smiling 65 81.
• Reduced beast form: Can shrink to approximately 2.2–2.3 meters tall; Chen Cang considers this size manageable for travel, especially beneath a black robe 81.
• Berserk state: Its eyes develop an increasingly bloodthirsty red glow 66.
• Human form: A powerfully built man who appears to be in his thirties and stands just over two meters tall. His appearance suggests brawn rather than intelligence 159.

Personality

Initially brutal, proud, and territorial, the ape responds violently to provocation. It is nevertheless intelligent enough to stop pursuing an intruder beyond its territory and to recognize the deception once Chen Cang emerges from its lair 65 66.

As a follower, White Ape becomes obedient, deferential, and openly proud of Chen Cang. It leaves valuable spoils untouched without permission and readily offers to intimidate strangers on its master’s behalf. Its conviction that Chen Cang will surpass the Gu Clan and the Central Plains’ sects is sincere, though partly rooted in ignorance of their actual power 109 121 166.

It is also conscious of its own limitations. Despite possessing human-level intelligence, it struggles to learn techniques as quickly as Qing Lin or Dan Chen and feels envy at their ability to understand Chen Cang’s guidance from a single hint 145 173.

Berserk Bloodline

• Dramatically increases speed and offensive power when activated 66.
