Background / History
Greg is a player who transmigrates into Greg Sass while playing his eighty-first run of the original dating game. His new identity is an exceptionally handsome but universally disliked villain: of Greg Sass’s 1,386 game CGs, 1,380 depict his deaths. The original character never entered a dungeon on any route, making dungeons the only locations without predetermined death CGs for him 1.
Immediately after recognizing his situation, Greg flees his second-year classroom and takes refuge beneath Glory Kael Magic Academy. His initial plan is to remain underground until the heroines reach the ending, then return to the surface once the scripted deaths are no longer waiting for him. On his fifth day underground, Duke Sass’s House formally expels him; he discards the letter, knowing that the family is destined to be destroyed midway through the original story 1.
The original Greg had already sabotaged Victoria’s entrance test and publicly declared that commoners had no right to attend the academy. He had also been engaged to Lilith’s older sister, but her father canceled the engagement after discovering his lack of magical talent. These actions and failures shape the hostility the transmigrated Greg inherits 2 9.
Appearance
Greg has an exceptionally handsome face and a lean, muscular build, but his appearance does not initially overcome the heroines’ inexplicable aversion to him 1 3 9.
- Hair: Long, dazzling blond hair; when wet, it can cover his face enough for him to attempt a disguise 2.
- Eyes: Amber 14.
- Build: Defined back muscles and shoulder blades; nearly a head taller than Lilith during their first dungeon encounter 3 9.
- Clothing: An academy uniform that becomes dusty, scorched, torn, and bloodstained during his survival efforts 27 34.
- Disguise: Uses a mask when rescuing the missing upperclassmen, although Lia recognizes his golden hair and build 47 48.
Personality
Greg prioritizes survival over heroic ambition. He treats divine favor with suspicion, refuses to become a goddess’s disposable pawn, and rejects Nightmare’s request to conquer the Five Great Dungeons. Even after learning that he is a demigod, he would rather lie low until the ending than pursue a dangerous divine destiny 13 14 15.
He is resourceful and quick to improvise explanations. His claim to be a goddess’s emissary begins as a bluff, while his urgent first-floor expedition is presented as concern for missing students rather than a response to his own deadly quest deadline. His explanations often contain enough truth to persuade Victoria and Sylvia 3 5 34 35.
His speech is profane, teasing, and frequently lewd. When Lilith asks how the heroines compare, he evaluates their bodies instead of their combat strength. Despite this behavior, he rescues others, offers encouragement, and readily softens when Sylvia apologizes—then berates himself internally for abandoning his resolve 9 10 11 26 50.
Abilities & Skills
Dungeon Talents
Greg’s transmigration grants talents specifically suited to surviving and growing stronger underground 1.
- Dungeon Explorer: Increases damage dealt to any entity by 20% while inside a dungeon; upgradeable 1.
- Praise the Dungeon: Prevents his actual luck from falling below zero inside a dungeon; upgradeable 1.
- Dungeon’s Charity: Slightly increases experience gained inside a dungeon; upgradeable. One documented reward gives 22 bonus experience on top of 220 base experience 1 32.
- Digestive Bacteria: Gives a chance to acquire a random skill or skill fragment from enemies killed inside a dungeon. This fixed talent bypasses normal aptitude and level barriers to acquiring skills and increasing proficiency 1 32.
- Unactivated talent: His initial panel includes an unidentified entry awaiting activation 1.
Dark Magic
Nightmare’s gifts give Greg LV10 Dark Magic Affinity, exceeding the elemental affinity levels he remembers Victoria and Sylvia possessing. Usable dark magic did not exist in the original game; it appeared only in historical references to the extinct faith of the Goddess of Night 8.
- Dark Bracer LV1: Creates forearm guards of churning black mist that devour or weaken incoming attacks. It swallows an enormous falling bronze bell, consumes part of a goblin’s cleaver, and adds lethal shadow effects to his punches 29 40.
- Dark Wave LV1: Launches a thumbnail-sized black speck that inflicts numerous debilitating effects, including weakness, blindness, confusion, fear, mana disruption, life drain, sensory deprivation, paralysis, mental collapse, and an instant-death check. Its first use kills a LV23 Goblin shaman 41 42.
- Ultimate-spell classification: Nightmare identifies Dark Bracer as the ancient “strongest shield” and Dark Wave as the “strongest spear.” His unexplained command of both makes her question whether his soul has some prior connection to hers 44.
- Limitations: Greg initially understands neither spell fully. His first Dark Wave is an emergency gamble, and he recognizes that missing the shaman could have cost Sylvia her life 29 41 42.
Elemental Magic and Combat Technique
Greg combines basic spells with knowledge of monster behavior rather than relying solely on raw magical power 49.
- Water Gun: Initially LV2; reaches LV3 during the three-monster battle. Its upgraded form produces a sharper water arrow capable of wounding the Spineback Lizard 8 49.
- Fireball Spell: Initially LV1; reaches LV2 in the same battle. Greg can launch several fireballs with virtually no windup against low-level monsters 8 9 49.
- Weak-point targeting: Attacks the Spineback Lizard’s softer throat and the Mossrock Golem’s chest energy node 49.
- Attack interruption: Kicks a stone into the Shadow Devourer’s materialization path to interrupt Shadow Strike 49.
- Close combat: Uses a short sword, evasive footwork, punches, and kicks alongside magic 32 40 49.
- Support dependence: Sylvia’s strength and agility buffs, barriers, and disruptive light spells substantially ease his fights against groups 40 48.
Tentacle Bind
Tentacle Bind is obtained from the Blackwater Octopus and later adapted to control tentacle-like wooden branches 2 47.
- Coating the branches in dark mana allows Greg to control them like extensions of his body 47.
- His dark-enhanced version withstands considerable punishment and continuously weakens restrained enemies 47.
- LV1 proficiency limits how many branches he can control. Powerful monsters can still corrode, tear apart, or otherwise escape the restraints 47 48.
Survival and Utility Skills
| Skill | Documented level | Application or limitation |
|---|---|---|
| Boohoohoo / Whimpering | LV4 | If Greg does not resist, an enemy becomes unable to bring itself to attack him for four seconds. Works only once per target per day 1 32. |
| Burrowing | LV2 | Lets part of his body merge into the ground for rapid movement. Duration and depth depend on proficiency and terrain; misuse risks suffocation, entrapment, or disorientation. An earlier test leaves him stuck underground 32. |
| Underwater Adaptation | LV3 | Listed among the skills acquired during his early dungeon hunting 1. |
| Resistances | LV1–LV2 | Blunt Impact Resistance LV2, Earth Magic Resistance LV2, Water Magic Resistance LV2, and Cold Resistance LV1 1. |
| Elemental affinities | LV1 | Earth and water affinities acquired before his dark-magic awakening 1 8. |
| Ancient Language | LV1 | Listed among his innate skills; no specific application is shown in the supplied passages 8. |
| Sowing | LV2 | Increases the chance of impregnating a female by 60%, ignoring racial boundaries. Greg reacts with disgust to acquiring it 43. |
| Intangibility | LV1 | Immunity to physical and elemental attacks for five seconds, limited to one use per day 50. |
Game Knowledge and Practical Survival
Greg’s repeated playthroughs provide detailed foreknowledge, but only within the portions of the game he explored 1 15.
- Recognizes death-triggering objects, including a trapped container and an enchanted rope that can strangle a sleeper 4.
- Knows early dungeon layouts, monster attack patterns, spell windups, and hidden weaknesses; deeper dungeon levels remain unfamiliar 15 49.
- Hunts, cooks monster meat, makes jerky, and records observations in his survival diary 1 9 22.
- Uses curfew and nighttime movement to reduce contact with students and dangerous surface events 22 36.
- His predictions are not infallible: Sylvia’s near-drowning and Lilith’s victory over Victoria both contradict his expectations 1 23.
Weaknesses and Restrictions
- Negative luck: His panel displays luck as “10 (black),” later described as negative ten. Outside the dungeon, even attempts to avoid known death triggers produce new accidents and encounters 1 25 34.
- Holy Light Seal: A seal encases his genitals and prevents their use for one year. Sylvia states that a saintess’s Purification Divine Art can remove it, prompting him to seek the current saintess before she leaves office 5.
- Shared life: If either Greg or Nightmare dies, the other dies as well. Nightmare cannot undo their existing bond 13 14.
- Incomplete divinity: Demigod status does not give him complete divine authority or high rank. He hopes that restoring Nightmare’s strength might eventually provide protection comparable to Victoria’s, but this remains an aspiration 14 30.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Short sword — Used while hunting shallow-region monsters 32.
- Mask — Conceals his identity during the rescue of the missing upperclassmen, intended to minimize his connection to Catherine 47.
- Wooden branches — Serve as the medium for his dark-enhanced Tentacle Bind 47.
- Protective tent — Purchased for two gold coins using most of the money obtained from Ellie; replaces sleeping directly on cold stone 31.
- Academy Dungeon Survival Guide (Diary) — Records his daily survival conditions and unusual monster movements 1.
- Rare reflection Gem — Given to Victoria in exchange for her promise to help clear the first floor after the placement assessment 6.
- Basic magic gem — Retrieved after killing the Blackwater Octopus 2.
Relationships
- Victoria — The original game’s protagonist and the character responsible for the most of Greg’s deaths. Their inherited hostility gradually becomes cooperation after he rescues Sylvia, supplies a Gem, and encourages Victoria following her defeat. She entrusts Sylvia’s safety to him 2 6 26 34 35.
- Sylvia — Rescued by Greg from both the Blackwater Octopus and the Goblin shaman; becomes his support partner. Her trust develops into affection, while Greg learns to pay more attention to protecting her during combat 2 40 42.
- Nightmare — Goddess of Night, benefactor, and unwillingly accepted life-bound partner. She lives in his shadow or appears as a black cat; their relationship is marked by arguments, teasing, and his resistance to her dungeon-conquest agenda 13 14 15 22.
- Ellie Hill — His former personal maid, who resigns from the Sass family after his expulsion and insists on staying with him. Greg considers her the only person he can completely trust. Her LV68 strength cannot help him clear the academy dungeon because its entrance admits students only 6 27 29 31.
- Lilith Kahn / Lily Carlo — A princess Greg rescues while she is disguised as a merchant’s daughter. His cooking and casual treatment challenge her poor opinion of him. His warning about Victoria’s feint contributes to her unexpected placement-assessment victory 9 12 23.
- Duke Sass’s House — His former family and the original Greg’s principal source of support. Greg accepts his expulsion without grief, knowing the house sides with demons and is doomed in the original plot 1 2.
- Evan, Leonard, and Lia — Three missing upperclassmen he rescues. Sylvia exposes his name in front of them, undermining his disguise; Greg subsequently plans to warn them to keep the incident secret 48 50.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Refuge in the Academy Dungeon
- Establishes a camp beneath the academy to escape the original Greg’s scripted deaths 1.
- Saves Sylvia from the underground river and begins repairing his relationship with Victoria 2.
- Receives Redemption of the Villainous Noble, a quest requiring him to clear the first floor before the first act ends 2 8.
- Discovers that his invented claim to serve the Goddess of Night is unexpectedly validated by Sylvia’s blessing test 5.
Nightmare’s Pact
- Identifies the black cat at his camp as the Goddess of Night and learns that she has bound their lives and divine essence 12 13 14.
- Learns from Nightmare that the Five Great Dungeons imprison alien Outer Gods whose awakening could destroy the world, rather than merely serving as monster-filled challenges 15.
- Refuses to volunteer to conquer all five dungeons 15.
Surface Excursion and Reunion with Ellie
- Leaves the dungeon at night to answer Ellie’s threat to enter it, hold his funeral, and kill herself if he fails to appear 6 22.
- Discovers that Lilith has defeated Victoria, contrary to the original game, and reassures Victoria after checking on her injuries 23 26.
- Reunites with Ellie at the city clock tower and survives a falling bronze bell through Dark Bracer 26 27 29.
First-Floor Investigation and Upperclassmen Rescue
- Expedites his expedition because Victoria remains injured, danger appears ahead of schedule, and Sylvia’s original kidnapping event is approaching 31 33 35.
- Enters with Sylvia, defeats the goblins blocking the middle-region passage, and kills their shaman with Dark Wave 40 41 42.
- Recognizes the unusually deserted middle region as likely evidence of a Screech device driving monsters away 44.
- Rescues three upperclassmen and fights the Spineback Lizard, Mossrock Golem, and Shadow Devourer without openly using dark magic. His basic spells improve, and the Shadow Devourer yields Intangibility 47 48 49 50.
- His first-floor quest is not confirmed completed in the supplied chapters 50.
