Background / History
Sylvia grew up with Victoria Cecil and studied alongside her under a village mage who had reached the elder hero domain. Their teacher used harsh methods, including dangerous spells and lessons near monster dens 3 11.
During the Demons’ attack on their village, Sylvia dragged Victoria toward the escape tunnel’s exit, preventing her from returning to the home where her parents were being killed 21.
By the beginning of the academy storyline, Sylvia is a candidate for the Holy Light Church’s next saintess and one of the few people who knows Victoria’s identity as the Hero. Greg attributes her continued candidate status to divisions within the Church rather than any lack of qualification 3.
Appearance
Sylvia has a slender figure, fair skin, and delicate features 19 36 38.
- Hair: Long, silky pink hair 2 19.
- Eyes: Usually described as pink; the divine-power test scene instead describes them as gray-blue 5 18 24.
- Expression and mannerisms: Frequently blushes, lowers her gaze, or clutches her clothing when embarrassed or anxious 5 18 42.
Personality
Sylvia is devout, conscientious, and initially strongly attached to rules. Before her nighttime excursion with Greg, she has scarcely broken even minor school regulations. Sneaking through the academy with him nevertheless awakens an unexpected enjoyment of forbidden adventure 36.
Her concern for others can outweigh her fear. She persuades Victoria not to jeopardize her assessment eligibility by confronting hostile nobles, spends hours trying to comfort her after her defeat, and insists on searching for missing upperclassmen despite the dungeon’s dangers 18 24 45.
Sylvia is shy under public attention and easily flustered by intimate subjects. Her trust in Greg grows through his rescues, apparent consideration, and forgiveness. That growing attachment also brings feelings she struggles to understand, particularly disappointment when she believes his attention is directed more toward Victoria 5 19 36 42 50.
Abilities & Skills
Goddess’s Blessing and Light Affinity
Sylvia possesses the Goddess’s Blessing and specializes in rare light magic. Greg recalls that her corresponding elemental affinity reached at most LV8 in the original game; this is not a confirmed current-story level 8 13 19.
- Light magic’s defining properties include isolation and enhancement 19.
- Her strongest demonstrated role is ranged protection and support 35 40 42.
- Despite her childhood instruction, she lacks practical combat experience and close-combat self-defense capability 11 41 42.
Wall of Light
Sylvia creates a defensive wall of milky-white light bearing sacred runes 19.
- Instantly blocks Angela White’s two wind blades 19.
- Withstands Hurricane Pierce, even when Angela commits all her remaining mana to the attack 19.
- Maintaining the defense leaves Sylvia sweating and breathing hard, but unharmed 19.
Enhancement Magic
Sylvia strengthens allies through light-based buffs 40.
- Light of Jotunheim · Strength Enhancement — increases Greg’s physical strength 40.
- Light of Alfheim · Agility Boost — makes his movements lighter and faster 40.
- Renews these enhancements during the goblin battle and supports Greg again against the three monsters threatening the missing upperclassmen 40 48 49.
Holy Light Bullet
Sylvia uses Holy Light Bullet to interfere with enemy attacks and movement 40 49.
- Disrupts and drives back goblins approaching Greg from the sides 40.
- Fires at the fleeing Shadow Devourer as part of Greg’s finishing attack sequence 49.
Divine-Power Verification and Religious Knowledge
Sylvia knows a secret Church rite capable of identifying the Goddess of Night’s divine power. Her prayer envelops Greg in golden light, which transforms into dark light and convinces her that his claimed divine connection is genuine 4 5.
- Recognizes the resulting manifestation as a pure blessing of night 5.
- Identifies Greg’s Holy Light Seal and explains that a saintess’s Purification Divine Art can remove it 5.
- Offers to perform that purification after becoming saintess; she does not demonstrate the art in the supplied chapters 5.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Wand — used to channel her enhancement spells during the goblin battle 40.
Relationships
- Victoria Cecil — Childhood friend and her most important companion. Sylvia knows Victoria’s Hero identity, helped her escape the village’s destruction, and supports her through her academy defeat and recovery 3 21 24 33 42.
- Greg Sass — Upperclassman and rescuer. Her initial disgust gives way to trust, admiration, and increasingly personal affection. She feels hurt when she interprets his protection as something done primarily for Victoria 4 7 34 36 42 50.
- Grace Quinn — Instructor who awards Sylvia Class A placement and serves as that class’s homeroom teacher 19 33.
- Angela White — Placement-assessment opponent whose wind attacks fail to penetrate Sylvia’s Wall of Light 19.
- Lilith Kahn — Victoria’s royal rival and a subject of Sylvia’s concern. Sylvia researches Lilith’s abilities and warns Victoria about Flame Explosion before their match 17 18.
- Nightmare / Goddess of Night — Detects an unidentified, displeasing scent on Sylvia. The supplied chapters do not establish its source 38.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Underground River Rescue
A Blackwater Octopus pulls Sylvia beneath the underground river. Greg gives her air mouth-to-mouth, kills the monster, and carries her back to the surface. The incident surprises him because this near-death scene did not occur in the original game 1 2.
After waking beside his campfire, Sylvia remembers something apparently kissing her underwater. Greg claims an octopus sucker touched her lips. Her subsequent divine-power test validates his claim to the Goddess of Night’s favor, substantially improving her opinion of him 4 5.
Before returning to the academy, Sylvia also passes on Ellie’s alarming message: Greg must appear within a week, or his former maid will enter the dungeon, hold his funeral, and kill herself. Sylvia mistakenly treats this as an exaggerated expression of loyalty 6.
Placement Assessment and Victoria’s Recovery
Sylvia earns Class A placement through her defensive victory over Angela White. After Victoria loses to Lilith and is hospitalized, Sylvia repeatedly visits and attempts to reassure her 19 24 33.
She embraces Victoria with relief when her fighting spirit returns. Learning that Greg helped bring about this recovery strengthens Sylvia’s trust in him, though his private late-night visit to Victoria also gives her an unexplained sense of unease 33 34.
Dungeon Investigation
With Victoria still recovering, Sylvia accompanies Greg to investigate dungeon abnormalities and search for three missing upperclassmen. Greg’s explanation that secrecy will protect the girls from gossip makes Sylvia interpret his evasive behavior as kindness 35 36.
She supports him against the goblins blocking the route deeper into the first floor. When a shaman attacks her from behind, she freezes and collapses; Greg saves her with Dark Wave. Her gratitude turns into disappointment when he explains that protecting her fulfills his promise to Victoria 40 41 42.
In the middle region, Sylvia insists that they continue searching for the missing students rather than merely pass through the unusually quiet dungeon 44 45.
Rescue of the Upperclassmen
On catching up with Greg, Sylvia calls him by name, inadvertently exposing his identity to Lia, Evan, and Leonard. She then supplies buffs and offensive support while he fights the Spineback Lizard, Mossrock Golem, and Shadow Devourer without dark magic 47 48 49.
Greg reprimands her for compromising their secrecy but quickly forgives her remorseful apology. She promises greater care, and his gentleness further deepens her affection 50.
Original-Game Threat
Greg remembers that Sylvia is supposed to be kidnapped during the original story’s first-act climax. This anticipated danger helps motivate his early intervention; the supplied chapters do not show the kidnapping occurring 33 35.
