Geography and Environment
- Polar regions: Major centers of human survival following migration away from increasingly hostile regions. Underground Cities exist at both poles 479 480.
- Equatorial belt: Becomes barren and intensely hot. Later battlefields feature cracked ground, volcanic ash, a dusky-yellow sky, and turbulent hot air 117 751.
- Oceans: Undersea volcanic activity, melting glaciers, and rising seawater contribute to the planetary disaster. Demon Clan forces later appear near submarine volcanoes in the Pacific 117 590.
- Postwar surface: Global nuclear war leaves widespread radiation, radioactive dust, and nuclear-winter conditions. World Tree coverage eventually creates localized safe zones 342 737.

| Equator Wasteland and Coastal Ruins | Assigned to the Half-Orc army during allied operations to hunt demons on Blue Star 681. |
The Great Deceleration
Blue Star’s crisis begins with an unexplained change in its geomagnetic field and a slowdown in its rotation. Earthquakes, eruptions, tsunamis, atmospheric loss, and extreme weather follow. By the opening of the story, two and a half years of survival pressure have driven desperate people to storm military bases for places in Underground Cities 1 117.
The Ark Plan offers only temporary relief. Later calculations attribute Blue Star’s worsening orbital decay to the continuing rotational slowdown, placing the planet on an accelerating course toward the Sun 34 496.
Documented Rotation Changes
| Rotation Period | Chapter | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 24 hours | 496 | Earlier baseline used in Qian Zhenhua’s comparison. |
| 25 hours | 231 | Officials estimate that rotation could stop entirely within three years at the observed rate. |
| Over 26 hours | 496 | The slowdown is intensifying, prompting a revised orbital-disaster forecast. |
| 27 hours | 816 | Identified in the chapter title as Blue Star’s current day length. |
Projected Orbital Collapse
These are model forecasts presented before later technological breakthroughs reopen the possibility of saving Blue Star, not completed events 496 660 720.
| Forecast Point | Predicted Condition |
|---|---|
| Year 40 | Blue Star reaches the vicinity of Venus’s orbit; runaway heating is expected to drive surface temperatures above 1,000°C 496 497. |
| Year 80 | Blue Star enters the range of Mercury’s orbit 496. |
| Year 99 | Blue Star is swallowed by the Sun 496. |
- Heating mechanism: Evaporating seawater intensifies the greenhouse effect as the planet approaches the Sun 497.
- Underground limits: Rising temperatures would eventually make even Underground Cities unsustainable 497.
- System-wide danger: Blue Star’s altered orbit disrupts the gravitational balance of the inner Solar System. Mars is therefore rejected as a reliably safe replacement home 497.
- Continuing threat: Even after rescue becomes technically feasible, atmospheric loss and solar approach remain long-term climate dangers 817.
History
Discovery of Terra
Lin Mo identifies the magical world of Terra as a possible lifeline for Blue Star. A stable two-way Astral Teleportation portal gives Great Xia the prospect of relocation and settlement beyond its failing home planet 5 48.
Satellite surveys strengthen that hope: Terra is reported to be twice Blue Star’s size, with more than four times its habitable area and abundant minerals and life. Great Xia commits to securing a foothold there while Blue Star remains the Expeditionary Force’s source of advanced ammunition 117 128.
Global Nuclear War
A global nuclear assault devastates Blue Star’s surface through explosions, radiation, earthquakes, tsunamis, and ecological collapse. Nuclear winter follows. All thirty-six of Great Xia’s Underground Cities survive with zero casualties, while Great Xia retains half its satellites and the other major countries lose theirs 342.
The destruction also isolates personnel at the Lunar Base. Communications resume after a week, but ruined surface launch facilities prevent their return by rocket. Lin Mo’s later portal connection provides a route home 491 498.
Great Xia subsequently launches missiles against nearly a hundred Antarctic Underground Cities, establishing itself as the power setting Blue Star’s rules 374.
Diplomatic Opening
Great Xia initially conceals Blue Star’s condition from Terra, fearing that outsiders will discover its weakness. Elder Zhao therefore orders the existing permanent-portal site renovated rather than inviting foreign mages to establish new coordinates 255.
As cooperation deepens, continued exclusion threatens mutual trust. Delegations from the Elves, Dwarves, Holy Human Race, and Half-Orcs visit through Arctic Base after health inspections. Dwarven craftsmen are also sought for rune work on Great Xia’s enormous spacecraft 399 400.
Lin Mo later opens an Astral Portal to Blue Star through his own spatial magic. Plans follow for portals linking the Arctic and Antarctica, making movement between polar Underground Cities easier 477 479 480.
Demon Clan Invasions
The Demon Clan reaches Blue Star through a wormhole inside Eagle Country’s Freedom Underground City. Its destruction confirms that the same enemy fighting Terra has penetrated humanity’s home world 521 525 527.
Cho’Gath later deploys every available Space-Jumping Beast, opening more than fifty hidden wormholes. Demon activity spreads across Antarctica, the Arctic fringe, the Western Continent’s underground ruins, the Pacific, and the equatorial belt 588 590.
Great Xia seeks high-order help from Terra and eventually welcomes 550,000 allied troops. Their operations fall under Great Xia’s unified command, with drones, terminals, supplies, and aircraft providing guidance 564 567 681.
Blue Star’s forces clear Demon Clan footholds and probe through an enemy wormhole. Later attacks become coordinated threats against Blue Star, Terra, and Kona; interrogation eventually reveals that Cho’Gath has supplied Blue Star’s coordinates to other Demon Gods 642 744 845 865.
Restoration and Planetary Migration
World Tree Recovery
World Trees provide the first visible reversal of Blue Star’s environmental collapse.
- Seed acquisition: Lin Mo purchases two seeds from the Elves for one hundred million gold coins each and proposes using nuclear-reactor energy to accelerate reproduction 348.
- Surface revival: Grass and fresh vegetation appear around a surface World Tree despite surrounding nuclear contamination. A settlement project receives thirty thousand construction workers 480 482.
- Expansion: Great Xia reaches eleven mature World Trees, which produce one hundred new seeds over six months 737.
- Purification: Their life domains reduce nuclear dust below safety thresholds, restore clean water, and reactivate microorganisms in polluted permafrost 737.
- Resettlement: Three groups of Arctic residents return to surface homes with normal health-monitoring results. Patrol robots keep people and animals inside purified areas 737.
- Restoration strategy: Safe zones are to expand from high latitudes toward the middle latitudes and eventually across the planet 737.
Engineering Plans
| Stage | Plan and Assessment |
|---|---|
| Initial abandonment decision | Existing industry would need at least ninety years to construct a planetary-engine array—too late to overcome the worsening solar approach. Great Xia concludes that Blue Star cannot be saved with its current capabilities 497 500. |
| Kona technology proposal | Qian Zhenhua identifies automated industry and Heavy Engineering Robots as ways to accelerate construction. He proposes using the Moon as a gravitational towing platform to stabilize Blue Star 660. |
| Rescue judged feasible | Revised calculations indicate that Blue Star and the Moon can be pushed out of their orbits before Blue Star falls into the Sun. Both must ultimately leave the destabilizing Solar System 720. |
| Environmental recovery estimate | Kona’s transformation procedures predict roughly one hundred years to restore pre-Cataclysm conditions; adding World Tree effects reduces the simulation to approximately fifty years 768. |
| Ongoing construction | Planetary engines on Blue Star and the Moon continue receiving minimum guaranteed resources despite the demands of the Kona war 945. |
Civilization and Technology
Industry and Cultivation
- Technological civilization: Blue Star develops through industry rather than a native cultivation system. Great Xia’s experiments with Holy Human cultivation methods fail in every tested group 166.
- Proposed explanation: Scientists suspect differences in fundamental universal rules: Blue Star lacks the energy described as “qi,” and its humans have not developed the ability to use it from birth. Lin Mo is an exception requiring explanation 166.
- Uneven advancement: Antimatter weapons greatly exceed the maturity of some other technological branches. Zhao Gang cautions that this does not make Blue Star industrially or technologically superior to Kona overall 651.
- Civilization rating: After recently achieving controlled nuclear fusion, Great Xia assesses itself as barely reaching Type I, with its exceptional antimatter technology contributing to that judgment 665.
- Automated production: Small Universal Factories in all thirty-six Underground Cities remove shortages of basic necessities and automate standardized manufacturing 737.
Civilian Life
Early survival revolves around obtaining an underground bed and waiting for nutritional rations. Nuclear war and repeated invasions prolong this insecurity; only later does stability allow ordinary concerns such as marriage and family life to return 817.
Automation initially reduces ordinary work to four hours daily, accompanied by four hours of mandatory learning and skills updating. Prolonged war later brings twelve-hour shifts and six-day workweeks, producing exhaustion, complaints, and early unrest over the resources committed to Kona 737 945 946.
Planetary Defense
- Underground protection: Great Xia’s thirty-six Underground Cities withstand the global nuclear assault without casualties 342.
- Layered surface defenses: Heavy artillery, electromagnetic cannons, laser arrays, plasma cannons, concealed missile silos, and close-in interception systems surround the cities 737.
- Unmanned forces: Third-order Combat Robots become standard main units; fifth-order heavy robots exceed ten thousand, and Pangu Mechas reach 537 737.
- Strategic weapons: Nuclear and antimatter weapons counter high-ranking demons, but delivery remains difficult against fast-moving Demon Gods. Terra’s high-order fighters supply capabilities ordinary Blue Star humans lack 527 646.
- Orbital firepower: Spaceships and orbital platforms employ plasma weapons, lasers, and electromagnetically accelerated tungsten rods 628.
- Lunar fortress: The Moon is being developed into Blue Star’s outer defensive line, incorporating planetary engines and a Planet-Buster Cannon to protect the planned interstellar voyage 740 945.
- Coordinate security: Great Xia deliberately omits Blue Star’s precise coordinates from its first broadcast to Kona. Cho’Gath’s sale of those coordinates nevertheless exposes the planet to further invasions 649 865.
