Background / History

The Ren Family possesses a heritage of more than a thousand years and is one of the families that founded the Bright Jade Dynasty. Its history is closely tied to warfare: over two thousand years, 37,000 direct descendants, more than one million affiliated personnel, and at least ten Family Heads died in battle; the family also preserves the names of 17,680,000 soldiers who fell while fighting beside it. 1 549

Under Ren Tianxing, the family rose from last among the Five Great Families to a position able to contend with the imperial family within roughly two decades. His rule concentrated authority in the Family Head, while the elders chiefly carried out his orders. 4

Ren Tianxing later transferred the Family Head position to his seventeen-year-old son, Ren Jie. The Council of Elders—particularly Second Elder Ren Junyang, Third Elder Ren Hanlin, and Fourth Elder Ren Wenxu—treated the inexperienced successor as a figurehead, restricting his spending and repeatedly challenging his authority. 3 4

Ren Jie’s refusal to remain controlled turned the family’s latent divisions into an open power struggle. He disciplined elder-backed officials, rallied the Guard Squad, and used the War Drums to summon the family’s veteran network when the Fang Family threatened the Ren residence. 23 57 61

Organization and Institutions

Family Head

The Family Head is the clan’s legitimate supreme representative, with authority over family resources, personnel assignments, military training, and emergency measures. Even when Ren Jie was dismissed as a puppet by the elders, his title carried formal authority throughout the family and the dynasty. 13 193 408

The Family Head maintains distinctive ceremonial assets, including Family Head attire, a token, a ring containing Ren Tianxing’s cultivation inheritance, and a dedicated residence with defensive formations and a levitating emergency courtyard. 27 141 212

Council of Elders

The Council of Elders manages routine family affairs and includes both inner elders—such as Ren Junyang, Ren Hanlin, and Ren Wenxu—and outer elders drawn from collateral lines or foreign enshrined experts. 3 203

The council repeatedly attempted to limit or remove Ren Jie. Its authority was curtailed during emergency mobilization, when ordinary elder orders ceased to apply unless the full council was present. 58

  • Ren Junyang — Second Elder; led efforts to restrict Ren Jie and later attempted to place him under house arrest. 3 203
  • Ren Hanlin — Third Elder; supported restricting the Family Head’s resources and later pushed for Ren Jie’s removal. 1 112
  • Ren Wenxu — Fourth Elder; joined the campaign against Ren Jie and criticized him for damaging the family’s reputation. 1 112
  • Ren XiongTu — Great Elder; emerged from seclusion to lead an attempt to depose Ren Jie, backed by the Emperor and military forces. 391 404

Myriad Inheritance Hall

The Myriad Inheritance Hall is the family’s most significant ceremonial hall. It is opened only for the inheritance of the Family Head position or for major clan events, and its name reflects the hope that the Ren bloodline will continue through countless generations. 404

Ren XiongTu opened the hall to convene a full Elder Council meeting and attempt to replace Ren Jie as Family Head. The effort ultimately failed after Ren Jie exposed the elders’ corruption and evasion of family obligations. 404 409 413

Family Rules

The family’s rules require direct descendants to undergo battlefield training. Training assignments may last from three months to three years, and members who evade training can be expelled from the family. 408

This rule became central to Ren Jie’s confrontation with Ren XiongTu: Ren Jie accused the Great Elder’s lineage and other branches of preserving themselves while previous generations had fought and died for the family. 408 409

Military and Defensive Forces

  • Guard Squad — A veteran force associated with Ren Tianxing and later personally reorganized by Ren Jie. Its members became fiercely loyal to the Family Head after he addressed their cultivation problems and trained them. 23 28
  • Heavenly Dragon Army — A 30,000-strong force trained at the Jade Spring Mountain Spirit Jade Mine under Zhan Tianlong. It received spirit jade, potions, weapons, cultivation methods, and formations on an exceptional scale. 404
  • Northwest Army — Led by Northwest Great General Ren Tianheng; renowned for its ferocity and developed with the Ren Family’s early support. 404
  • Southwest forces — Led by Southwest Great General Ren Tianqi; supported the Northwest through resources and training and possesses expertise in formations and strategy. 404 567
  • War Drums — An emergency mobilization instrument that summons Ren-affiliated forces in Jade Capital City and sends alerts to the family’s followers throughout the country. 58
  • Family defensive formations — The Ren residence possesses layered defensive arrays, while the later Ren Family Grand Array can combine the power of the clan’s cultivators on a massive scale. 213 834

By the Fallen Saint Valley campaign, the Guard Squad had reached Golden Immortal level, while Xie Jian, Tie Ta, and Tong Qiang had reached Great Luo Golden Immortal level. The weakest Heavenly Dragon Army soldiers had reached the peak of the Heavenly Immortal Realm. 842

Territories and Resources

  • Jade Spring Mountain Spirit Jade Mine — A former foundation of the family’s rise, later given to the royal family by Ren Tianxing and eventually returned as an imperial “reward.” Ren Jie suspected the grant was a trap, and subsequent losses confirmed the mine’s danger. 191 203
  • Northwest and Southwest — Longstanding Ren Family military rear areas. Their independent armies made the Emperor wary, though Ren Tianheng and Ren Tianqi increasingly operated like semi-autonomous regional lords. 404 529
  • Ren Family Small World — A concealed refuge prepared by Ren Tianxing in anticipation of a clan-extinction disaster. It contains scattered Ren bloodline members, old family experts, cultivation resources, and self-sustaining farmland. 652
  • Eternal Paradise Celestial Abode — A major source of income whose earnings surpassed the Chang Le Casino’s annual revenue; Ren Jie later stated that a single opening could support a million-man army for ten years. 456 529

The Small World originally housed at least six additional Taiji Realm experts beyond Ren Jiuzhi, Ren Jiuqiao, and Ren Xing, as well as more than two hundred Yin Yang Realm cultivators. 652

Internal Power Struggles

Elder Opposition

The elder faction sought to weaken Ren Jie from the beginning of his tenure, portraying him as a reckless hedonistic young master whose behavior endangered the family’s reputation. Their conflict with him became a focal point for outside forces hoping to divide the Ren Family. 1 25 112

When Ren Jie was poisoned and critically injured, the elders discussed removing him and redistributing family interests. Ren Tianzong forced them to invoke the Five Great Families Secret Agreement and prepare the entire family for a response against whoever had attacked the Family Head. 112

Great Elder Ren XiongTu’s Coup

Ren XiongTu emerged from seclusion claiming support from the Emperor. He intended to use Ren Tianheng and Ren Tianqi’s returning forces, as well as the promised command of 500,000 New Army troops, to remove Ren Jie. 391

The coup culminated in the opening of the Myriad Inheritance Hall. Ren Jie countered by using the Family Rules against the elder faction, exposing their embezzlement and their descendants’ avoidance of battlefield training. He removed Ren Junyang, Ren Hanlin, and Ren Wenxu from the Council of Elders. 408 409

Ren XiongTu’s deposition attempt collapsed. He was severely injured by the Guard Squad and committed suicide, while numerous Yin Yang Realm experts aligned with him were injured or killed. 413

Alliances and Affiliates

  • Ren Tianzong and Yun Feng'erRen Jie's Sixth Uncle and Sixth Aunt. Ren Tianzong defended Ren Jie against the elders, activated the Five Great Families Secret Agreement after his assassination attempt, and remained one of the family’s principal protectors. 112 414
  • Wen Family — A full ally of the Ren Family. Wen Mo and Wen Yong openly supported Ren Jie, and the two families pledged to stand together against external threats. 435 549
  • Bright Jade Mountain Manor — Old Pill King Yu Changkong incorporated the manor into the Ren Family and pledged its members to fight alongside it. 549
  • Sky Dragon Sword Manor — Sword King Long Ao incorporated the manor into the Ren Family and committed its personnel to the Northwest and Southwest campaign. 549
  • Eastern Wastelands Great General Wei Shilong — Joined the Ren Family, strengthening its external military network. 529
  • Zhenhai Great General Hai Yang — Joined the Ren Family alongside Wei Shilong. 529
  • Family affiliates and veterans — The family historically supported loyal veterans and collateral personnel with livelihoods, businesses, and protection. Ren Jie sought to restore their confidence by publicly defending them and promising support for those who remained loyal. 362 376 529

Story Role / Major Arcs

Rise of Ren Jie

The family begins divided: Ren Jie holds the title of Family Head, while the elders attempt to control its finances, reputation, and decision-making. Ren Jie’s resistance restores the authority of the Family Head and wins the Guard Squad’s allegiance. 4 23

Conflict with the Fang Family

Ren Jie’s acceptance of Chang Lao Si as a disciple and his confrontation with the Fang Family escalate into a public military mobilization. The War Drums gather veterans and affiliated forces, demonstrating that the Ren Family retains deep reserves of loyalty and martial strength. 54 57 61

Jade Spring Mountain Crisis

The imperial grant of the Jade Spring Mountain Spirit Jade Mine becomes a source of heavy casualties, financial pressure, and internal conflict. The elder faction attempts to exploit the disaster to replace Ren Jie, while Ren Jie treats the mine as both a threat and a training ground for the Heavenly Dragon Army. 191 203 404

Defense of the Ren Residence

When the Nine Headed Dragon King and Black Widow attack, the family activates its defensive formation. The failure of the other major families and the Imperial Palace to respond exposes the political isolation surrounding the Ren Family. 213

Deposition Crisis

Ren XiongTu’s attempt to remove Ren Jie nearly turns internal conflict into civil war. Ren Jie neutralizes the elder faction, preserves the family’s broader foundation, and emerges with direct control over the clan. 404 409 413

Expansion and National War

With the Wen Family, Bright Jade Mountain Manor, and Sky Dragon Sword Manor aligned to it, the Ren Family becomes the core of a broader alliance. Ren Jie publicly invokes the family’s history of battlefield sacrifice and leads forces toward the Northwest and Southwest against the Skysea Empire. 456 549

Small World and Reformation

Ren Jie discovers the Small World prepared by Ren Tianxing and reunites with hidden Ren bloodline members and old ancestors. He restructures the army, revises cultivation systems, and integrates the Small World’s younger generation with the family’s external forces. 652 660 667

Later Growth

During Ren Jie’s absence, Wen Shiyu manages the family’s affairs and oversees a new cultivation system. Over three and a half years, the Ren Family grows beyond the scale of ordinary Ten Thousand Year Sects and approaches the stature of a Supreme Great Teaching. 737

Legacy

The Ren Family’s identity is inseparable from sacrifice, military service, and the principle that its members and followers should not be abandoned. Ren Jie explicitly seeks to establish the expectation that any Ren Family member—or anyone serving the family—will have the clan’s support when harmed outside its territory. 255

“Maybe some people won't remember them, but the Ren Family will remember everyone.” 549

“As long as there is one Ren Family member alive, we will never let the enemies of the Skysea Empire succeed.” 549
