Background / History

Gu Xiaobao came from the Eastern Wastelands Ancient Village, where he was raised by his grandfather, Gu Kun. Although only five years old, he had inherited power connected to the Ancient God Race after his parents and clansmen sacrificed themselves for him. The inheritance left severe aftereffects: he appeared as an unusually large, black-skinned man and struggled to bear the power within him. 452 497 500

He met Ren Jie while Gu Kun was seeking aid for the Ancient Village. Gu Xiaobao immediately became attached to Ren Jie, whom he called “Master,” and demonstrated an unusual ability to recognize and track his aura. 456

While left in Sky Water One Color City, an Illusion Demon Stone triggered his Ancestor Symbol Awakening. Terrified visions of his clansmen caused him to lose control, grow beyond three meters tall, and devastate an inn and its surroundings. The Sky Water Sect captured him to exploit the awakening, and Shui Zhipeng attempted to seize his body before Ren Jie intervened. 469 486

Gu Xiaobao later saved Gu Kun from Black Iron Soldiers, but Gu Kun died protecting him. Ren Jie preserved Gu Kun’s remains within Gu Xiaobao’s Longevity Lock, then helped the grieving child vent his rage through a day-and-night fight. Afterward, Gu Xiaobao accepted Ren Jie as his master and resolved to grow strong enough to protect those he loved. 489 490 498

Appearance

Gu Xiaobao’s appearance changes drastically depending on the state of his inherited power. After surviving the Thunder Tribulation and having the Ancestor Talisman sealed within him, he regained the body of an ordinary young child—apart from his exceptionally dark skin. 497 499

  • Black skin, repeatedly compared to charcoal or a black human-shaped briquette. 497
  • Initially appeared as a tall, sturdy “big black guy.” 452
  • Can enlarge his body into a giant form when unleashing inherited power. 469 645
  • Often wears animal-hide clothing. 505
  • Has bright eyes and a notably expressive face despite his intimidating strength. 527

Personality

Gu Xiaobao is fundamentally innocent, emotional, and childlike. He loves food, toys, crowded markets, and opportunities to fight; he becomes visibly excited when allowed to shop or engage in combat. 469 501 527

His grief over Gu Kun’s death and the destruction of Ancient Village left him emotionally vulnerable. When distressed, his immense power can erupt uncontrollably, but Ren Jie’s guidance gradually teaches him restraint, judgment, and responsibility. 498 533

He is deeply loyal and protective toward Ren Jie and Wen Shiyu. He initially views any perceived rival for Wen Shiyu’s attention with hostility, but he can be corrected when reminded to think before acting. 522 533

Abilities & Skills

Ancient God Inheritance

Gu Xiaobao inherited power associated with the Ancient God Race and the Ancestor Talisman.

  • His bloodline and essence blood can react with Ancient God relics, including opening the Ancient God Suppressing Heaven Diagram. 579
  • His Ancestor Symbol Awakening remotely channels a powerful inheritance into his body. 469 486
  • The inheritance grants extraordinary physical power but initially caused instability, pain, and changes to his body. 469 497
  • Ren Jie sealed the Ancestor Talisman within him, allowing him to return to a stable child-sized form and gradually endure its power. 497

Exceptional Physical Strength

Gu Xiaobao’s body is his principal weapon.

  • He broke a Taiji Realm cultivator’s condensed giant hand and cracked Shui Haomiao’s water-mirror defense. 469
  • He tears apart restraints through brute force and closes distance before opponents can use Magical Treasures effectively. 523
  • He defeated Ren Xing with a simple punch and demonstrated giant-form killing intent powerful enough to leave Ren Xing convinced he would die. 645
  • He defeated three Taiji Realm experts during the battle against the Skysea Empire. 553

Aura and Divine Soul Tracking

Gu Xiaobao can identify and pursue remembered auras.

  • Once he remembers a person’s aura, they cannot escape his detection unless they deliberately erase it. 456
  • He can locate people and Demon Beasts by circulating his power and sensing their residual aura. 456
  • Ren Jie considers this ability unusual enough to be connected to Gu Xiaobao’s inherited power. 456
  • His senses can be affected by Ancient God-related formations and relics, causing agitation or emotional distress. 578 579

Combat Development

Ren Jie deliberately trains Gu Xiaobao through experience rather than instruction alone.

  • He fought Demon Beasts to learn practical control over Taiji Realm strength. 499 501
  • He learned to evaluate opponents, avoid giving Magical Treasure users room to act, and use his physical advantages decisively. 523
  • His weakness was initially combat inexperience; despite Taiji Realm strength, Ren Jie judged that an experienced Taiji Realm opponent could have killed him. 499
  • Qi Tian’s overwhelming defeat of him taught him not to underestimate stronger opponents. 536
