Chen Luo's reaction made Chen Jing realize she had been tricked again.
But why? Chen Luo had poured garlic all over himself too.
Chen Luo scoffed. "Trick you? Didn't you walk right into this yourself? Did I force you to pour garlic over yourself?"
"To tell you the truth, you're dead meat. Zombies are extremely sensitive to the smell of garlic."
Chen Jing broke down. "I just wanted to live! What's wrong with that?"
Chen Luo snorted. "Nothing. But picking on an honest man over and over was wrong, especially when that man is my brother. To put it in your own words, we all want to live. Is there anything wrong with sacrificing you?"
Chen Jing's innocent act only worked on honest men. With someone more ruthless, she would become nothing more than an outlet for their urges after the apocalypse. She would be lucky to get a tiny bit of sustenance each day to keep her alive.
In his previous life, Chen Jing had thought she had found a new protector, but it had actually been the beginning of her nightmare. Not everyone was Su Dazhu.
The zombies were about to reach their floor. Chen Luo couldn't be bothered to waste any more words on Chen Jing. He took his armor out of his Ability Space and put it on with practiced ease.
Chen Jing would soon be dead, and the dead couldn't reveal secrets. As for Su Dazhu, Chen Luo would tell him that the ability he had awakened was Space.
The sight of Chen Luo in his armor stunned them both.
Chen Jing finally understood where Chen Luo had gotten the confidence to pour garlic over himself.
Chen Luo said, "Dazhu, find a room and hide. Right now, you'll only hold me back."
Su Dazhu agreed. With armor like that, the zombies couldn't hurt Chen Luo at all. He really would only hold him back.
Chen Jing wanted to find a room too. The despair on her face vanished, replaced by a fawning, ingratiating expression.
"Chen Luo, spare me this once. After this, you can do anything you want to me."
Chen Luo chuckled. "I want you dead. Once you're dead, I'll let you go."
The zombies came up the stairs. Chen Luo kicked Chen Jing, sending her stumbling into the horde.
This time, Chen Jing broke down completely.
"What the hell did I ever do to you, Chen Luo? You've been targeting me since the moment we met!"
"Chen Luo, you'll die a horrible death!"
Chen Luo watched coldly, unmoved. My heart went cold long ago. Anyone who hurt me or my brothers in my previous life has to die.
Chen Jing had outlived her usefulness. If he hadn't wanted to show Su Dazhu how cruel people could be, killing someone like her would never have required so much effort.
I haven't even had dinner because I was busy dealing with you.
One Chen Jing clearly wasn't enough for all the zombies. The remaining zombies lunged at Chen Luo.
He electrocuted them with ease.
Looking at the blood and carnage strewn across the floor, Chen Luo fell apart.
"My home!"
Chen Luo wanted to cry, but no tears came.
He had miscalculated. The home he had lived in for over a decade had really suffered today.
Su Dazhu came out and looked at Chen Jing's remains with a complicated expression.
Chen Luo said little, simply calling Su Dazhu over to help carry all the zombie corpses out of the villa. Otherwise, how could anyone still live there?
It took them nearly half an hour to move all the zombies to the roadside some distance from the villa. That was the best they could manage.
Looking at the blood covering the floor, Chen Luo really couldn't be bothered to clean it up. A little maid would have been perfect right about now.
Ma Yu would be a good choice. She was quick and efficient at housework, but Chen Luo didn't know whether she was still alive.
Alive or not, he would let the apocalypse teach her a few lessons first. That would make things much easier when he went to see her.
So who would mop the floor?
Chen Luo didn't want to do it, but he would feel guilty making Su Dazhu do it while he rested.
Chen Luo turned his gaze toward... Dharma King.
You're the one.
Chen Luo found a few rags and a bucket, then taught Dharma King how to pour water and wring out the rags.
"Dharma King, I'm entrusting this important task to you. You can eat once you're finished."
"Woof, woof."
Dharma King was numb with disbelief, but how could he refuse something Chen Luo had asked him to do?
You really are a bastard.
Su Dazhu said, "Chen Luo, let's go get some things from the supermarket."
With Chen Luo's armor and Stun Baton, it would be a breeze.
Chen Luo had been working all day and didn't want to make the effort. Those few scraps weren't worth his attention anyway.
Chen Luo waved a hand. "I've got better food here. Come on, let's head upstairs and have a drink."
Su Dazhu had only eaten two slices of bread and a few snacks. That wouldn't have been enough for him even before awakening, let alone afterward.
At the dining table, Chen Luo brought out eight dishes one after another.
Big-plate chicken, beer duck, fish with pickled mustard greens, braised pork belly, a large braised pork knuckle, dry-fried cauliflower, scrambled eggs with green peppers, and homestyle tofu.
Chen Luo deliberately placed the big-plate chicken in front of Su Dazhu. He loved chicken.
Then he took out two bottles of chilled beer and a large serving of rice. The rice was for Su Dazhu, who didn't like eating dishes without it.
The fragrant food nearly had Su Dazhu drooling, and his eyes almost popped out of his head.
This was utterly absurd. Had it all appeared out of thin air?
Su Dazhu stared blankly. "Chen Luo, you...?"
With a soft chuckle, Chen Luo explained, "Dazhu, have you felt any changes in your body?"
Su Dazhu nodded. "My head hurt for a moment this morning, and afterward, I felt a lot stronger."
His increased strength was only one of Su Dazhu's changes. What he didn't yet know was that his vitality had also increased dramatically.
Once Su Dazhu gained a few more levels, an ordinary dagger would no longer pierce his body easily.
Chen Luo said, "Actually, I experienced this kind of change before the apocalypse began. If your change is a Strength ability, then mine is a Space ability."
"I suddenly discovered I could control a little spatial power. And since I kept feeling that some disaster was coming, I stored up some supplies."
It wasn't exactly a lie, but it wasn't as outlandish as being reborn either.
He would use the same explanation not only with Su Dazhu, but also with any trusted confidants he found in the future.
Su Dazhu nodded, only half understanding.
Chen Luo smiled. "I also had a feeling we'd become brothers. Come on, don't worry about all that. Nothing's more important than eating."
Looking at the table piled with dishes, Su Dazhu swallowed hard.
"There's too much food. We can't finish it all. Chen Luo, let's make it last. Two or three dishes would be enough."
Chen Luo declared generously, "It's fine. Dharma King can have whatever we don't finish. He hasn't eaten yet either."
Dharma King, who was busy wiping the floor, didn't mind in the slightest. Forget leftovers-when he had been a stray, he had been lucky to get slop.
Thank you, master.
But seriously, is wiping floors really something a dog should be doing?
