Headquarters had put special "care" into the awards ceremony, even hiring a filming crew. They said the footage would play on a loop on the base's big screens.
There were no televisions in the base now, and ordinary people had no internet access.
It was a pretty miserable state of affairs.
There were only a few large electronic screens installed at fixed locations. They occasionally displayed important information, but mostly played the news.
When Qin Luo and the others arrived, they discovered that their squad wasn't the only one receiving commendations. Five or six other combat squads were there too. Those squads had between seven and twelve members, making theirs the smallest.
More importantly, the five of them had simply thrown on casual clothes before heading out, only to arrive and discover that the other squads had dressed to the nines.
Was this supposed to be some grand occasion?
One group was even wearing suits...
Qin Luo was at a loss for words, while Chen Xiaofei and Bai Shu nearly burst out laughing.
Wang Weihu felt embarrassed on the suited combat squad's behalf too. It made his skin crawl.
But none of that mattered.
They were treated like props. To make the video look better, they even had to do a rehearsal. It left them numb. The newly arrived official looked like a real pain in the ass, and he was even rather rude to the combat squads.
Chen Xiaofei couldn't help asking Bai Shu, "Where did this new official come from?"
He certainly had a temper.
Although they trusted Headquarters and believed everyone was working hard for humanity's future, there were always a few bad apples among them.
Bai Shu adjusted his glasses and said quietly, "Keep doing wrong, and you'll bring about your own downfall."
