[Snow Mountain Destroyer · Fox Wolf: Combat Power 66]
A creature that looked somewhere between a wolf and a fox appeared outside the fence while Ye Fei was eating lunch.
Standing in his doorway, Ye Fei looked at the intruder, whose display showed only a name and combat power, with no special abilities listed. He was certain that redeeming the heavy crossbow had been the right choice.
"Yip?"
Little Fox gulped down the meat and soup in her bowl, then ran outside to look at the white creature. She tilted her head curiously, unsure what it was.
"Qingxue, go back and finish eating!"
Ye Fei waved Little Fox back into the house.
This Fox Wolf had not attacked outright. It seemed more interested in observing and testing them.
"Yip..."
Little Fox blinked at Ye Fei as he told her to go inside, then turned and went back.
On her way, she also bumped Little White Tiger back into the house just as the tiger was about to poke its head out.
If they were not allowed outside, they would stay inside and watch from the window.
"Qingxue, Feng Bai, we need to take part of our house apart!"
Ye Fei watched the Fox Wolf raise its head and seemingly smile before leaving, then hurried to adjust his house's layout.
The changes were simple. He removed the roof ridge and tiles, then laid down two extra layers of planks so the roof would not break underfoot.
He went into the yard, put the Crafting Bench into his Inventory, then took it out again once he reached the roof, allowing him to craft up there whenever needed.
To keep the Crafting Bench out of the way, Ye Fei made some more planks. After interlocking them lengthwise and crosswise, he built a square platform on the roof, two meters wide and one meter high.
Once everything was ready, he set up the Wind Spirit Repeating Crossbow.
Heavy Crossbow Bolts were still being crafted. Ye Fei put the finished ones into his Inventory and began adjusting the weapon.
As for the Wooden Fences...
Those had been ready for some time. For now, he had placed only three layers around the yard, with many more held in reserve.
His small house already contained at least ten Storage Cabinets.
But there was nothing particularly valuable in them. Aside from two Storage Cabinets filled with meat, the rest held basic timber and Wooden Fences.
"Roar-"
A roar that sounded like neither a fox nor a wolf rang out, and a wave of snow rose from the ground around Ye Fei's home. Seen from the rooftop, it had a beauty all its own.
Unfortunately, behind that wave of snow were eleven white, wolf-shaped creatures charging toward him!

They were already here, and only now was he supposed to start preparing defenses?

Watching the Fox Wolves attack two sections of the fence, Ye Fei raised his hand and began making adjustments.
There was a feature in the homestead settings that he had tested before.
Within a circular area extending thirty meters from the center of his house, he could place homestead fences anywhere.
In other words, as long as he had enough resources, he could build an enormous circular enclosure sixty meters in diameter.
But that was merely the maximum limit. Ye Fei certainly had no intention of doing that.
His yard might look small now, but when wild beasts attacked, he could use fences to surround them directly.
Trapping his prey and giving himself plenty of time to hunt them down from a distance felt wonderfully safe and convenient!
As fences appeared behind the pack, the slightly larger Fox Wolf leader turned and tried to charge out.
But by the time it reacted, Ye Fei had already placed the first ring of fences, followed by the second, the third, the fourth...
Only after surrounding them with six rings of fences did Ye Fei leave house adjustment mode. He loaded a Heavy Crossbow Bolt into the repeating crossbow and began aiming.

The repeating crossbow's first shot merely grazed a Fox Wolf's leg, doing little damage.
"A repeating crossbow really is different from a bow."
Ye Fei shook his head in mild frustration. He had already loaded the second Heavy Crossbow Bolt, and he aimed at the one he had wounded and fired again.
There was a three-second interval between shots, accounting for loading the bolt and giving the mechanism time to reset.
Under the Fox Wolves' attacks, two Wooden Fence sections, each with 20 defense and 2,000 durability, could be destroyed in a minute.
But in that same minute, Ye Fei could fire twenty Heavy Crossbow Bolts.
His own combat power might be low, but this repeating crossbow was purple quality. The Heavy Crossbow Bolts' attack power was certainly formidable against the beasts outside.
[Piercing Attack]
"Aaargh-awooo-"
After three shots skimmed past, Ye Fei finally landed a piercing hit with his fourth.
The bolt pierced a Fox Wolf's abdomen.
When the Heavy Crossbow Bolt struck, its force slammed the Fox Wolf straight into a Wooden Fence.
On open ground, it probably would have carried the creature a meter or two.
Unfortunately for the Fox Wolves, they were enclosed within ring after ring of fences. Until they destroyed those fences, they did not even have room to leap around.
And even with their considerable destructive power, whenever a fence vanished after its durability reached zero, Ye Fei quickly switched modes and filled the gap.
The piercing effect left the wounded Fox Wolf howling nonstop. The other Fox Wolves gathered around it and bit apart the Wooden Arrows still lodged through its abdomen.
With the obstructing Wooden Arrows gone, it could move again.
But although the Wooden Arrows were gone, the bleeding caused by the piercing wound remained.
Seeing that the Fox Wolf had lost a fifth of its health bar and was still losing more, Ye Fei aimed again, preparing to land another piercing shot.
But although the bolts carried piercing power, the effect did not trigger every time.
Several consecutive shots only broke through skin and flesh without triggering a second piercing effect, but the Fox Wolf's health still fell to three-fifths.
Ye Fei did not rush. Rushing was pointless anyway; the repeating crossbow could not fire until its interval was up.
One bolt after another, no matter how the other Fox Wolves tried to shield it, he stood on the rooftop and focused his attacks on that single target.

Once again, the piercing effect triggered.
And this time, the Heavy Crossbow Bolt pierced the Fox Wolf's head.
Its health, already worn down to nearly half, was instantly depleted.
Its head shattered. That was a killing blow.
