Background / History

Ancient Era

The Heavenly Emperor rose from a nameless cultivator to a renowned powerhouse of the Great Thousand World, accompanied throughout his life by the Heavenly Emperor Sword. He became one of the ancient Nine Emperors and presided over the Ancient Heavenly Palace 27 28.

When the Outer Realm Evil Clan attacked the palace, he faced the Devouring Heaven Demon Emperor, also known as the Nine Corpse Heavenly Demon Emperor. This opponent was a fusion of nine Demon Emperors from the Devouring Demon Clan. Using One Qi Transforms into Three Pure Ones, the Heavenly Emperor slew eight of its bodies, but ultimately sacrificed himself to seal the surviving threat 26 89.

His palace was destroyed during the ancient conflict. Lu Heng, formerly his mount, abandoned him during the war and later served the enemy 21 81.

Awakening and Succession

The Heavenly Emperor’s consciousness awakened when the Demon Emperor reappeared, but the demon’s overwhelming power initially prevented him from manifesting. He nevertheless witnessed Futu Yijing protecting weaker cultivators despite being only an Earthly Sovereign 27.

After Xiao Yan and Lin Dong subdued the demon, Xiao Yan revealed the Heavenly Emperor’s surviving imprint. Borrowing his sword from Mu Chen, the Heavenly Emperor annihilated the sealed Devouring Heaven Demon Emperor and opened spatial passages to dismiss the gathered inheritance-seekers 26 27.

He selected Futu Yijing to inherit One Qi Transforms into Three Pure Ones, favoring his demonstrated courage over potential alone. He transmitted the technique and his cultivation insights, then channeled the Heavenly Emperor Sword’s power into Futu Yijing to help him cross the Heavenly Sovereign barrier 27 28.

Survival in the Human Emperor Seal

Expecting to disappear after assisting his successor, the Heavenly Emperor instead accepted Futu Yijing’s offer to preserve his soul within the Human Emperor Seal. He guarded the breakthrough, sent Mandala, Mu Chen, and Nine Nether away before the tribulation, and subsequently guided Futu Yijing’s cultivation of his inherited technique 29 30 31.

The seal strengthened his soul and allowed him to reunite with Mandala. During the Sword Domain expedition, he unlocked its restrictions to expand its spiritual-energy storage, awakening and reuniting with his old friend, the Human Emperor 32 40 41.

He continued advising Futu Yijing, including guarding his spiritual-meridian refinement and suggesting materials for an experimental secret art. In the Ancient Era Saint Abyss, he possessed White Piece to defend his disciple and killed a Profound Demon Emperor with his sword 52 55 71.

Resurrection and Renewed Service

After becoming the Futu Ancient Clan’s chief, Futu Yijing supplied three intact Heavenly Sovereign bodies and asked Xiao Yan to resurrect the Heavenly Emperor, Human Emperor, and Ancestor Futu. Their rebirth succeeded after half a month, bringing the clan’s Saint Grade total to five 79 80.

With their original factions destroyed and their disciple leading the clan, the Heavenly Emperor and Human Emperor chose to join the Futu Ancient Clan. The Heavenly Emperor later helped support Nine Nether against Huang Jin and joined the fighting against the Outer Realm Evil Clan at Northern Wilderness Hill 81 97 116.

Appearance

• Remnant manifestation: A luminous figure in white robes, with a graceful, composed bearing and an imperial pressure that inspires reverence 26.
• Resurrected body: Appears as an elderly man when emerging alongside Ancestor Futu and the Human Emperor 81.
• Through White Piece: His possession brings an emperor-like aura; he carries the Heavenly Emperor Sword and freely twists the surrounding space 71.

Personality

The Heavenly Emperor places the Great Thousand World’s survival above his own life. Even after death, he chooses and empowers a successor with the coming war in mind, explicitly anticipating the additional Heavenly Sovereign fighting strength that Futu Yijing’s incarnations could provide 26 27.

He is affectionate toward Mandala and warmly invested in his disciple’s growth. He praises Futu Yijing’s honesty, rejoices at his breakthrough, and takes satisfaction when his disciple prioritizes an expedition against the enemy over seeking a personal inheritance 27 30 40.

Despite his stature, he acknowledges the strength of later generations. He considers Xiao Yan and Lin Dong beyond his former level and praises the Green-Robed Sword Saint as at least his Ancient Era equal. His mentorship is not infallible: he admits forgetting to tell Futu Yijing to refine his spiritual meridian 44 55.
