Tobirama is a white- or silver-haired boy with red eyes and a habitually stern, expressionless face. Repeated physical “corrections” from Yanbai make him increasingly handsome and strengthen their resemblance 1 4 10 36.

His harshness toward Yanbai is rooted partly in protective concern. When Yanbai claims he entered the battlefield to help his brothers and keep Kawarama and Itama from being deployed, Tobirama’s anger subsides. He also apologizes after learning more about the suffering associated with Yanbai’s healing 2 9.

Despite his hostility toward the Uchiha, Tobirama supports peace maintained through treaties and rules. He longs for an environment where children do not need weapons and eventually considers that Yanbai’s friendship with an Uchiha might serve reconciliation. Yanbai’s Assigned Minder

Tobirama repeatedly interrupts Yanbai’s attempts to heal wounded Uchiha. The encounter in Chapter 1 is already the third such interruption, preventing Yanbai from completing another attempt to copy Uchiha abilities. Tobirama catches the fleeing Yanbai and brings him back to Senju territory 1.

After hearing Yanbai’s explanation, Tobirama softens but still insists that he remain inside the clan grounds. Butsuma formally places Yanbai under his supervision because of the danger posed by the child’s unusual healing ability 2.

Yanbai defeats this supervision with help from animals. Birds cover Tobirama in droppings containing a volatile paralytic toxin, while cats and dogs drag him back into the compound. The dose is mild enough for him to recover fairly quickly, and he later accepts Yanbai’s apology with a gentle nod 4 7.

Losing Direct Control

Tobirama joins his brothers in shielding Yanbai from Butsuma and asks their father to forgive him after Yanbai challenges the clan’s expectations of his healing 8.

Yanbai subsequently subjects Tobirama, Kawarama, and Itama to painful cycles of beating and healing, ostensibly to correct physical imperfections. Tobirama eventually transfers the practical responsibility for watching Yanbai to Hashirama. After receiving further “corrections” while following them, he stops tailing the pair 10 11.

He does not abandon his concern. When Hashirama returns alone and gives an unusually polished explanation, Tobirama asks Butsuma to accompany him into the forest to find Yanbai 16.

Discovering the Uchiha Connection

Unable to monitor Yanbai closely without straining their relationship, Tobirama uses an unusually intelligent rat as an intermediary. He brands it with a cherry-blossom mark and tethers it where Yanbai will find and heal it. Yanbai names the rat Cherry Ink, and its visible mark makes it easy for Tobirama to track 34.

Following Cherry Ink reveals that it lives in Uchiha territory and carries Yanbai’s food to Madara. Tobirama also discovers that Madara has received Yanbai’s clothes. He initially interprets this as the Uchiha exploiting his younger sibling, but decides not to tell Butsuma or confront Yanbai in a way that might drive him away 33 34.

After considering the possibility of reconciliation, Tobirama questions Yanbai directly. Yanbai admits that he and Hashirama share Madara’s dream of creating a place where people can reconcile, and that Tobirama was excluded because his cleverness might expose Yanbai’s true nature. When Yanbai reveals his real objective—copying the Sharingan—Tobirama reluctantly agrees to help. He keeps watch during Yanbai’s nighttime visit to Madara and later participates in the grilled-fish cover story that satisfies Butsuma 40 41.

The Date Escort Mission

Tobirama relays Yanbai’s intelligence about Date Yuzhi to Butsuma, prompting their father to send Yanbai with Senju Longshu’s escort team. Tobirama accompanies him, and both detect a concealed presence shortly before the Uchiha attack 47.

During the ambush, Yanbai pulls Tobirama out of an explosion, heals his facial wounds, and protects him from a swordsman with Wood Release.
