Background / History

Immortal Domain Origins

The Undying Heavenly Emperor was a Five-Colored Phoenix who fell from the Immortal Domain while young. Returning to his homeland became his overriding ambition. He remembered cultivators using the Dao Seed system, but knew little of the Boundary Sea’s Other Shore, Above the Heavens, or the circumstances surrounding the Desolate Heaven Emperor’s actions 25 27 28.

Rise and Betrayal

During the Mythological Era, he attracted Emperor Venerable’s attention and gained substantial benefits. Once strong enough to reject the role of a pawn, he joined forces with the Kunlun Remnant Clan. Despite not yet having attained the Dao, he wielded the Immortal Bell stained with Kunlun blood to ambush Emperor Venerable, who had reached at least the Heavenly Emperor domain 25.

He later appropriated the bell for himself. Although the Kunlun Remnant Clan became his enemy, the bell’s spirit willingly supported him, believing that his aptitude might allow him to surpass Emperor Venerable 25 36.

God of the Myriad Races

In the Primordial Era, he became the god of the Myriad Races, studied countless great Daos, and inspired worship across the universe. His mastery of faith power was unmatched in that era. He fashioned a divine body from incense and collective belief, initially inhabiting it himself before allowing it to nurture an independent primordial spirit—the Undying Daoist 25 34.

The Daoist patrolled the realms on his behalf and later hid in the Reincarnation Sea under his orders. He was intended as a concealed piece within the Life Forbidden Zones, ready to ignite chaos during a major upheaval 34.

The God War

The Undying Heavenly Emperor was identified as the hidden hand behind the God War and its greatest beneficiary. His Blood Pool contained the blood, bones, primordial spirits, and weapons of several Extreme Dao beings, together with vast quantities of Quasi-Emperor essence. He refined these remains into medicine for his transformations 26 27.

Appearance

His human form is exceptionally beautiful, with a sharp gaze, slender fingers, and five-colored feathers 27.

  • Phoenix body: A hundred-zhang-long Five-Colored Phoenix, revealed when his lifeless body reverted to its original form 32.
  • Primordial spirit: A three-inch-tall five-colored immortal phoenix seated upon his Immortal Platform 30.
  • Blood and plumage: Five-colored immortal blood and radiant feathers; even his corpse remained wreathed in undying light 32 33.

Personality

The Heavenly Emperor combines exceptional talent, resolve, courage, and cunning with a willingness to sacrifice others for immortality. He regards his victims as people already condemned to short lives and argues that helping him become an immortal gives their deaths a worthy purpose. His longing for home is genuine, but he uses it to justify predation upon the mortal universe 25 27.

He is intensely proud of his bloodline and considers mortal inhabitants “lower-realm” beings. He claims that only someone of his stature deserves the Kunlun Immortal Bell. Yuangeng’s superiority wounds that pride, turning his confidence into fury; once his final trump card is confiscated, he abandons the fight and attempts a desperate escape 30 31 32.

Abilities & Skills

Immortal Phoenix Bloodline

His bloodline carries the universe’s fundamental Dao: a True Phoenix’s cry can embody a heavenly scripture, while the movement of its feathers can express a great art 38.

  • Possesses extraordinary flesh and bloodline power, with inherited potential extending to the summit of the True Immortal realm 38.
  • Manifests a towering Five-Colored Immortal Bird whose wings strike like Heavenly Blades 29.
  • Sacrifices phoenix blood to empower weapons; a blood-fueled blade strike cleaves Yuangeng’s Giant Kun 31 32.
  • Flies at tremendous speed, though his race is not renowned for supreme speed in the manner of the Kunpeng 32.
  • His dependence on inherited power becomes a limitation: both Yuangeng and the Immortal Bell’s spirit judge that his phoenix bloodline has bound his cultivation path 32 36.

Nirvana and Longevity

He preserves his cultivation without self-severance and repeatedly transforms in pursuit of immortality 27 29.

  • Uses five-colored nirvana flame during his escape from a lethal primordial-spirit clash 30.
  • Possesses the Heavenly Phoenix Nirvana Art; portions of his scripture later help inspire the Qilin Emperor’s attempt to attain a third lifetime 38.
  • May return through nirvana even after his true body’s death. Neither Yuangeng nor the bell’s spirit regards complete extinction as certain 32 36.
  • No successful posthumous revival is documented in the supplied chapters 48 49.

Faith Power and the Undying Daoist

He turns the collective belief of the Myriad Races into a powerful divine Dao body 34.

  • Initially walks the universe within the faith body himself 34.
  • Allows it to develop the Undying Daoist, an independent spirit whose life and death remain under his absolute control 34.
  • Faith directed toward the Heavenly Emperor continually strengthens the Daoist, whose power rivals a true Extreme Dao Supreme despite never undergoing an emperor’s tribulation 34 35.
  • The Daoist cannot share a mental connection with him, limiting its knowledge of his condition 34.

Nine Secrets Unified Art

He unites the Nine Secrets into a supreme offensive technique 29.

  • Releases their combined radiance against Yuangeng 29.
  • Repeatedly deploys the art through the awakened Heavenly Blade 30.
  • Its attacks are neutralized by Yuangeng’s death immortal light and Dao Seed 29 30.

Immortal-Metal Origin Arts

He comprehends and fully integrates the origin arts of the five immortal metals used in his Heavenly Blade, merging them with his own Dao 29.

  • Produces five distinct immortal radiances and sharply increases his offensive aura 29.
  • Makes the blade’s descent resemble punishment from the Heavenly Dao, with power far beyond an ordinary Imperial Dao Weapon 29.

Primordial-Spirit Combat

His primordial spirit is tempered through more than a million years of cultivation 30.

  • Merges with the Flying Immortal Waterfall to attack with five-colored primordial-spirit flames 30.
  • Threatens to dissolve Yuangeng’s primordial spirit to extract his ancient knowledge 28.
  • Cannot withstand Bury Ten Thousand Lifetimes of Reincarnation directly; survives an initial clash by detonating the waterfall 30.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Undying Heavenly Blade / Five-Colored Heavenly Blade — His life-linked Dao weapon, forged from five immortal metals. It gravely wounds the Qilin Emperor and cracks the Eternal Blue Gold Staff with one slash. Yuangeng later destroys its divine spirit but keeps the intact blade 28 29 32 47.
  • Kunlun Immortal Bell — His strongest trump card. Its waves shatter Yuangeng’s Great Kun, and its engravings manifest immortal mountains and ancient beasts. Yuangeng captures it inside an Immortal King-level stone coffin 30 31.
  • Blood Pool — Medicine refined from powerful cultivators’ remains. He draws it into his Immortal Platform to prepare for battle; most of his remaining resources had been invested in the pool, which is destroyed during the confrontation 27 28 33.
  • Flying Immortal Waterfall — A rare longevity treasure carrying a hint of the immortal path. He sacrifices it to escape Yuangeng’s primordial-spirit attack 30.
  • Nine-Turn Golden Pills — Restorative treasures used during the battle and attempted escape. Two more are recovered from his corpse 30 32 33.
  • Emperor primordial-spirit pill — A separate golden pill refined from an emperor’s primordial spirit, consumed to replenish his damaged spirit during his flight 32.
  • Nine immortal metals — A collection of all nine types, recovered after his death. He had enough material to forge a nine-colored blade but chose five colors to match his Phoenix Dao 33.

Relationships

  • Emperor Venerable — Early benefactor whom he later ambushed with the Kunlun Immortal Bell 25.
  • Kunlun Remnant Clan — Former allies turned enemies after he appropriated their immortal artifact. The Vermilion Luan Venerable directs Yuangeng toward his hiding place 24 25.
  • Kunlun Immortal Bell’s spirit — Willing supporter who admired his potential. After his defeat, the spirit declares their bond exhausted and forms a covenant with Yuangeng 36.
  • Myriad Races — Worshippers whose faith sustains his divine Dao body and the Undying Daoist 34.
  • Undying Daoist — Independent spirit born in his abandoned faith body; serves as his agent and hidden fallback in the Reincarnation Sea 32 34.
  • Yuangeng — Opponent who defeats him, seizes his bell, destroys his true body, and later nurtures his corpse 27 31 32 49.
  • Qilin Emperor — Reigning emperor who confronts him alongside Yuangeng and suffers a severe defeat. Later benefits from portions of his nirvana scripture 28 38.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Confrontation Beneath Yinghuo

  • The Vermilion Luan Venerable reveals that the stolen Immortal Bell is on Mars. Yuangeng takes the Qilin Emperor through the Mars Sea Eye to investigate 24 25 26.
  • In the Heavenly Palace, the Undying Heavenly Emperor defends his sacrifices and declares that both visitors will supply the Extreme Dao blood needed for his ultimate transformation 27.
  • He defeats the Qilin Emperor with one slash, but Yuangeng restores his Immortal Ancient cultivation and meets him as an equal 27 28.
  • Yuangeng then overwhelms his phoenix manifestation, blade arts, and united Nine Secrets with lunar essence death techniques 29 30.

Defeat and Death

  • After losing the Flying Immortal Waterfall, he uses the Kunlun Immortal Bell. Yuangeng counters with his stone coffin and confiscates the bell, breaking the Heavenly Emperor’s will to fight 30 31.
  • He attempts to enter a branch of the Road to Immortality that he had previously forced open with the bell, despite the almost certainly fatal timing 32.
  • Yuangeng blocks the entrance, drains his essence with a burial technique, and strikes his Immortal Platform with Bury the Immortal. Death runes permeate his body and freeze his primordial spirit into fragments 32.
  • His death prompts Dao thunder, black-red blood rain, and the mourning of the myriad Daos. Yuangeng subsequently destroys the Undying Daoist, eliminating his principal known fallback 33 34 35.

Posthumous Corpse Cultivation

  • Yuangeng studies the preserved phoenix corpse over the following three thousand years, deepening his understanding of its bloodline 38.
  • After completing the Burial Emperor Hall, he buries the corpse beneath its death-to-life formation, intending to nurture another self within it 48 49.
  • The Corpse Emperor suggests that the body might form a Reincarnation Seal. This remains a possibility rather than a completed resurrection 49.
