Background / History

Yuangeng originally lived on Blue Star, where he died in an accident. With the aid of a Stone Door within his true spirit, he transmigrated into the Immortal Ancient Era and was born among White Origin’s vast population. His talent emerged early, and his cultivation consistently followed the lunar path 2.

At approximately one thousand years old, he passed an arduous trial in Qingwei Heaven and became the disciple of Heavenly Lord Mo, a True Immortal whose true form was a lunar ink qilin. Around age three thousand, he defeated a Golden Crow Clan prodigy in a sparring match and won half of the Heaven-Covering Immortal-Burning Art, using its solar principles to deepen his understanding of lunar essence 2.

After reaching the supreme level, Yuangeng spent seventy or eighty thousand years traveling and cultivating. He visited the Immortal Domain, attended Pan King’s Flat Peach Gathering, participated in a Golden Crow princess’s husband-selection gathering, and read a Burial King’s scriptures in the Burial Domain. During these travels, he became Dao companions with a Golden Burial Cultivator 2.

Although his knowledge of the original story warned him that the Foreign Realm would invade, it did not provide a reliable date. Two thousand years after the invasion began, five attackers who had each taken half a step into the immortal domain surrounded him. He killed two before being pinned to death, leaving only a wisp of his true spirit. Heavenly Lord Mo and the Six-Eared Immortal Ape obtained a Stone Coffin beneath a willow tree and buried him in the Primordial Ancient Mine using Burial Domain methods, hoping for his eventual rebirth or awakening 2.

Appearance

Yuangeng awakens with the appearance of a burly man in his twenties or thirties, sharply defined features, and a cold, imposing presence 2.

  • Hair and eyes: Black hair; pitch-black light surges within his eyes when he awakens 2 34.
  • Brows: Swordlike and keen as blades 2.
  • Clothing: Initially described in black-gold battle robes; later weaves an ancient-style robe from moonlight through Lunar Essence Dao Laws 2 3.
  • Aura: Resembles a towering black mountain, with a pressure comparable to the Ancient Mine’s supreme beings 2.
  • Qilin manifestation: Frequently accompanied by a towering four-horned black qilin, despite being human 4 6 7.

Personality

Yuangeng’s Dao heart remains steady after more than five hundred thousand years of cultivation. Once he understands his new circumstances, he sets aside resentment and confusion and plans for the future. Becoming immortal is his immediate goal, both to continue his cultivation and to seek surviving friends and his Dao companion 6.

He is an inquisitive cultivator who values useful knowledge over loyalty to a single system. He studies Emperor Jun’s techniques during their battle, examines the remains of his weapon afterward, and openly acknowledges that the Human Body Secret Realm system is superior to the cultivation system of his own era 4 6 11.

His goodwill is selective. He helps the Qilin Emperor and Ziwei’s human lineages, but withholds some ancient truths from present-era emperors because of their obsessive pursuit of immortality. He rejects cooperation with unstable Self-Slashed Supremes and intends to oppose them if they unleash turmoil 7 13 18.

Yuangeng is confident without treating every opponent as harmless. He recognizes Emperor Venerable and the Undying Heavenly Emperor as threats, prepares a fallback before confronting the latter, and relies on overwhelming strength rather than trusting the Kunlun Remnant Clan’s motives. Within the Underworld, he deliberately cultivates fear of his power to discourage betrayal 25 27 47.

Abilities & Skills

Lunar Essence Great Dao

Yuangeng treats lunar essence as the yin aspect of all Daos, encompassing cold, darkness, weakness, annihilation, and death 29.

  • Resonates with heaven and earth through his Lunar Dao Seed, drawing external Dao power into his techniques 4 5.
  • Uses Lunar Essence Finger, concentrating profound black, intensely cold lunar light into his hand 5.
  • Alters an entire world’s fundamental laws; during his battle with the Undying Heavenly Emperor, he removes the God-War battlefield’s impurities and leaves pure death 29.
  • Creates a death-filled black ocean and uses its laws to obstruct the Undying Heavenly Emperor’s escape route 29 32.
  • Employs a self-created death-Dao Taboo Method against the Undying Heavenly Emperor’s Immortal Platform 32.

Immortal Ancient Method and Inheritances

His original cultivation depends on a flawless Lunar Dao Seed that bridges his body and the surrounding world 2 14.

  • Accumulates more than five hundred thousand years of cultivation experience 4.
  • Thoroughly studies at least five True Immortal inheritances, alongside Immortal King Methods and Burial King Scriptures 4.
  • Examines methods from the Primordial Ancient Realm, Immortal Domain, Burial Domain, Foreign Realm, and Boundary Sea 4.
  • Can temporarily restore his original cultivation by merging the Eternal Ancient Ruler into his body 27.
  • Remains subject to the present universe’s loss of life essence; adapting his original cultivation does not prevent his flesh and Primordial Spirit from aging 11.

Qilin and Golden Crow Methods

Yuangeng combines techniques learned from Heavenly Lord Mo and the Golden Crow Clan with his lunar cultivation 4 7.

  • Qilin Method: Manifests a lifelike four-horned Ink Qilin whose defense withstands Emperor Jun’s full-force axe strike 4.
  • Immortal Qilin Aspect: Transforms into a mountain-like four-horned qilin while demonstrating the method to the Qilin Emperor 42.
  • Reversed Heaven-Covering Immortal-Burning Art: Converts solar principles into lunar essence; mastering this reversal originally enables his supreme-level breakthrough 2.
  • Lunar Essence Wings: Uses pitch-black wings derived from Golden Crow methods to travel through the starry sky 4.

Great Kun Immortal Art

The Great Kun is one of the strongest lunar essence immortal arts in his repertoire, drawing on the Kun Peng tradition’s association between the Kun form and lunar essence 28.

  • Manifests an enormous black Kun whose tail strikes with universe-overturning force 28.
  • Combines the manifestation with lunar essence death, creating a Kun that emerges from a death-filled ocean to devour its target 29.
  • Uses it against the Undying Heavenly Emperor, initially matching his Flying Immortal technique 28.

Burial Domain Methods

Yuangeng integrates Burial Domain principles into his Lunar Essence Great Dao rather than treating them as a separate discipline 8 30.

  • Deathly stillness: Uses a move derived from studying the Burial Domain’s origin to suppress the Qilin Emperor with a single Dao body 8.
  • Bury Ten Thousand Lifetimes of Reincarnation: A Burial King art transmitted to him out of regard for his Dao companion. His Primordial Spirit manifests a death-filled universe to attack an opponent’s spirit 30 32.
  • Death-and-Life Grand Array: The Corpse Emperor seeks to study this array for inspiration in cultivating another Reincarnation Seal 50.
  • His burial Dao resembles the Netherworld Venerable’s because both cultivated methods from the Burial Domain, not because Yuangeng originated from the Underworld 44.

Human Body Secret Realms

Yuangeng studies imperial scriptures to create his own body-as-seed cultivation path 15.

  • Develops his own Sea of Bitterness scripture and repeatedly refines it 17 36.
  • Cultivates all five secret realms into closely linked, universe-like structures 38.
  • Produces a water-element Divine Spirit from the kidneys within his Dao Palace. This spirit assumes Burial Emperor attire and occupies his Underworld throne while his true body leaves 50.
  • His early Other Shore cultivation alone cannot match the Undying Heavenly Emperor; he restores his Immortal Ancient Dao Fruit before their battle 27.

Reflect the Ancient

Yuangeng uses Reflect the Ancient to investigate an object’s past 41 46.

  • Traces the Bodhi Seed’s provenance while searching for surviving traditions of the Immortal Monk King 41.
  • Applies the technique to battered iron recovered from the Underworld’s ancient remains 46.

Faith Thought Power

His public battles and teachings generate worship across Big Dipper, Ziwei, Flying Immortal Star, Qilin Ancestral Star, and the Cosmic Frontier 40.

  • Recognizes faith power through his familiarity with Sacrificial Spirit cultivators and the Immortal Monk King’s lineage 34.
  • Keeps devotional power outside his flesh and Primordial Spirit while examining its principles, thoughts, and karma 39.
  • Experiments with ancient scriptures designed to harness faith power 40.
  • The amount he receives is insufficient for a realm breakthrough or comprehension of immortality and barely assists his cultivation 40.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Stone Door — The mysterious object within his true spirit that aided his transmigration. Yuangeng believes it also preserved his body and enabled his eventual restoration; its full nature remains unknown to him 2.
  • Lunar Dao Seed — A flawless immortal seed and the foundation of his Immortal Ancient cultivation. It reaches the pinnacle of the Human Dao and is later incorporated into the Eternal Ancient Ruler 2 14.
  • Eternal Ancient Ruler — A smooth, crimson-and-black ruler forged from Dragon Pattern Black Gold and Phoenix Blood Red Gold. It carries his Immortal Ancient Dao Fruit and allows him to recover his former cultivation when drawn into his body 14 27.
  • Stone Coffin and lid — An Immortal King Secret Treasure personally refined by the Ancestral Sacrificial Spirit. Primarily intended to nourish and protect his buried flesh and soul, it also possesses defensive runes capable of resisting the Kunlun Immortal Bell. Yuangeng uses its lid as a weapon and the coffin itself to capture the bell 31.
  • Kunlun Immortal Bell — Captured from the Undying Heavenly Emperor, then willingly enters an affinity-based covenant with Yuangeng. It can attack, defend, suppress, manifest numerous transformations, and cleanse his Primordial Spirit. Their agreement is intended to end when he ascends and departs 31 36.
  • Undying Heavenly Blade — Retained after the Undying Heavenly Emperor’s death. Its divine spirit is dead, but Yuangeng considers the blade itself excellent 34 47.
  • Primordial Life Stones — Receives two sizable stones from the Ancient Mine’s Supremes; one later serves as an introductory gift to the Lunar Essence Divine Church 13 16.

  • Netherworld Scripture and Origin Scripture — Gains access to these works through his dealings with the Underworld 50.

Relationships

  • Heavenly Lord Mo — Master and lunar ink qilin True Immortal. Teaches him the Qilin Method and helps arrange his burial after his death 2 7.
  • Six-Eared Immortal Ape — White Origin’s True Immortal Sacrificial Spirit. His immortal blood transforms the young Yuangeng; he later assists Heavenly Lord Mo in obtaining the coffin and burying him 2.
  • Golden Burial Cultivator — Unnamed Dao companion of high standing in the Burial Domain. Yuangeng hopes she has survived and considers reuniting with her a reason to pursue immortality 2 6.
  • Qilin Emperor — Ally, cultivation partner, and member of the Immortal Ancient Pact. Supplies imperial scriptures, joins the confrontation with the Undying Heavenly Emperor, and receives methods intended to help him achieve another lifetime 9 15 27 38.
  • Si Yanning — Leader of the Lunar Essence Divine Church. Benefits greatly from Yuangeng’s teaching and later explains Ziwei’s worship of him as Heavenly Venerable 16 39.
  • Si Qi — Lunar Essence Quasi-Emperor who accompanies him to Flying Immortal Star and retrieves the Human Emperor Seal with his approval. Yuangeng also refines his Dao blood, awakening its Imperial Dao Laws 21 22 24.
  • Solar Essence Quasi-Emperor — Accompanies him during the Kunlun confrontation and warns that the clan may be using him against the Undying Heavenly Emperor 22 25.
  • Emperor Jun — First major opponent after his awakening. Yuangeng studies his secret-realm techniques before killing him 4 5 13.
  • Undying Heavenly Emperor — Enemy whom Yuangeng targets because of his disregard for other lives and the danger he poses to future transformations. Yuangeng captures his bell and kills him 25 31 32.
  • Corpse Emperor, Prison-Suppressing Venerable, Yama Emperor, and Rebirth — Underworld partners who grant him access to their resources and followers, provided he does not obstruct their search for the Netherworld Venerable 45 46 47.
  • Kunlun Immortal Bell’s spirit — A sentient artifact partner rather than an unwilling possession. Accepts Yuangeng through a loose covenant based on affinity 36.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Awakening and Slaying Emperor Jun

Yuangeng’s emergence above the Primordial Ancient Mine alarms the Hundred Clans and the forbidden zone’s Supremes. He learns that his burial has carried him through the entire Chaotic Ancient Era into the late Primordial period. Emperor Jun challenges him, and the two move to the Supreme Battlefield at the Cosmic Frontier 1 2 3 4.

His accumulated knowledge and foundations overwhelm Emperor Jun’s ultimately sublimated strength. Yuangeng survives their final clash holding part of the shattered Platinum Battle Axe, then studies its forging methods rather than unleashing a Dark Turmoil 5 6.

Alliance with the Qilin Emperor

The reigning Qilin Emperor welcomes him to Qilin Ancestral Star. Yuangeng reveals the existence of other realms and identifies becoming immortal as the step beyond their era’s limitations 6 7.

After demonstrating the gap between Extreme Dao practitioners with a single Dao body, he establishes the Immortal Ancient Pact. Their blood-bound agreement recognizes him as alliance leader and requires mutual assistance and protection of each other’s peoples 8 9.

Changing Cultivation Systems

Rapid aging forces Yuangeng to reconsider his original path. He obtains divine metals from the Ancient Mine and forges the Eternal Ancient Ruler to hold his Dao Seed and accumulated cultivation. With the Qilin Emperor’s help, he studies numerous imperial scriptures to develop his own Human Body Secret Realm method 11 12 13 14 15.

At the Lunar Essence Human Emperor’s former residence on Ziwei, he observes the emperor’s cultivation across the years. He subsequently completes the initial cultivation of his second life and reaches Other Shore 16 17.

Supporting Ziwei’s Human Lineages

Yuangeng publicly identifies himself as human and announces a scripture exposition at the Lunar Essence Dao Ground. He teaches for one year, then travels to Flying Immortal Star to recover the Human Emperor Seal from the Kunlun Remnant Clan 18 20 21 22 23.

His pressure nearly provokes a battle with the Qiongqi Emperor, but the Vermilion Luan Venerable intervenes and the seal is returned. Before leaving, Yuangeng also seizes a vast earth vein and seals it within his Bitter Sea 23 24.

Defeating the Undying Heavenly Emperor

Information from the Kunlun Remnant Clan leads him toward the Primordial God War’s secrets. Recognizing their attempt to set him against the Undying Heavenly Emperor, he proceeds anyway and brings the Qilin Emperor with him 25.

Yuangeng restores his Immortal Ancient Dao Fruit before fighting. His lunar death techniques and Burial King art suppress the Heavenly Emperor, while his Stone Coffin counters and captures the Immortal Bell. He blocks the enemy’s retreat toward a branch Road to Immortality and delivers the fatal attack against his Immortal Platform 27 28 29 30 31 32.

Seclusion and Worship as Heavenly Venerable

Yuangeng establishes a small forbidden zone in the transformed Ancient World beneath Yinghuo’s sea eye, intending it to support future allies as well as himself. After securing the Immortal Bell’s cooperation, he spends three thousand years refining his new cultivation system 35 36 37 38.

During his absence, Ziwei develops worship of the Three Sovereigns: the Lunar Essence Human Emperor, the Solar Essence Saint Emperor, and Heavenly Venerable Yuangeng. The title is chosen because the festival’s founders do not know his preferred exalted title; he accepts it without objection 39.

Becoming the Burial Emperor

An invitation from the Corpse Emperor brings Yuangeng to the Underworld. Their discussion establishes that his resemblance to its founder comes from shared Burial Domain cultivation. The Heavenly Nether Treasure attacks through the Underworld’s formations but flees after their clash 43 44 45.

The remaining four Supremes offer him authority over the Underworld. Its vast Burial Zone and available followers persuade him to accept a partnership. He establishes his halls and throne, declares himself the Burial Emperor, and later leaves his Dao Palace water-element Divine Spirit to occupy the throne while his true body departs 46 47 50.
