| Dao attainment — Extreme Dao emperor | 8 | Retrospectively stated to have proved his Dao just after turning 1,000. As bearer of the Heavenly Heart Imprint, he became the reigning sovereign of his era. |
| Second lifetime | 8 | Unable to renew his life through his own power, he relied on Immortal Medicine. His second life lasted more than 10,000 years, but his immortality research had not produced a third rebirth. |
| Rudimentary Four-Horned Qilin form | 8 | During his spar with Yuangeng, he grew a second pair of horns by imitating the briefly witnessed Four-Horned Black Qilin Aspect. The battle clarified his cultivation path despite his defeat. |
| Lifespan extension within his second lifetime | 33 | Longevity substance from a Road to Immortality tributary added approximately three to five years of unimpaired imperial lifespan. This was not a new lifetime. |
| Third-lifetime transformation attempt — unsuccessful | 35 37 38 | Developed a dream-based transformation method, but his primordial spirit became trapped for 1,500 years. Yuangeng awakened him; a completed third lifetime remains unconfirmed. |
Background / History
The Qilin Emperor was born on the world later known as the Qilin Ancestral Star. In his youth, he fought rival prodigies with his Qilin Staff and firmly believed in his own invincible path. After his Dao attainment, his birthplace became a pilgrimage destination for Blue Qilin and other qilin clans throughout the universe 7 8.
His early reign reinforced that confidence: the Myriad Races revered him, his own race worshipped him as an ancestor, and his Dao laws, vitality, and techniques continued improving. He once dismissed the Self-Slashed Supremes of the forbidden zones as failures who had sacrificed an emperor’s dignity for longevity. Aging forced him to reconsider when he could not achieve a second life without Immortal Medicine 8.
As his second lifetime approached its end, neither his longevity research nor his pursuit of immortality offered a reliable escape. About a thousand years before meeting Yuangeng, he visited the Primordial Ancient Mine, Immortal Mausoleum, Divine Ruins, Reincarnation Sea, and other forbidden zones to investigate a possible fallback. Yuangeng’s arrival gave him an alternative to eventual death or self-severance 8 9.
Appearance
- Human form: An upright, imposing man compared to an ancient pine, with long gray-white hair and a dignified Qilin Treads the Heavens robe. His movements naturally accord with the myriad Daos 5.
- True form: An immense azure qilin, described as majestic as a star when he seals the alliance pact 9.
- Combat appearance: His gray-white hair turns azure when he raises his strength to its peak 8 26.
- Later aging: After three thousand years, his hair becomes fully grizzled, dry, and brittle, visibly reflecting his fading life force 37.
Personality
The Qilin Emperor combines sovereign pride with a strong sense of responsibility. He approaches the survivor of Yuangeng and Emperor Jun’s battle because, as the reigning emperor, he considers controlling dangerous Extreme Dao beings part of his duty to protect living beings. His pride initially makes him reluctant to acknowledge Yuangeng as alliance leader 5 9.
He remains courageous and eager to learn despite his age. During his spar with Yuangeng, injury rekindles his fighting spirit rather than discouraging him. He also welcomes dangerous exploration and exchanges of cultivation knowledge—rare opportunities after millennia without an equal-level sparring partner 8 10 26.
His desire for longevity is rooted in wanting to witness a wider world, not merely preserve his authority. He accepts the alliance after recognizing Yuangeng as a genuine opportunity, generously supports his new cultivation path, and remains capable of retreating decisively when outmatched 9 11 15 28.
