Background
Yu Kingdom was founded through martial conquest. Its founding ruler, the Ancestor Dragon Emperor, rose in revolt, swept across the realm, and established the state after the fall of the previous dynasty. To secure a land crowded with martial sects, the founding regime created thirty-two military garrisons whose purpose was pacification and stability. 103 129
The dynasty inherited the previous regime's fear of heterodox power. It reclassified the former dynasty's Equality Sect as the Ghost Underworld Sect and prohibited the Demon Taming Art, treating such arts as threats to the ruling order rather than merely dangerous techniques. 11 129
Yu Kingdom's political culture combines loyalty to the sovereign with filial piety. Because martial artists are difficult to restrain directly, the court promoted filial piety—second only to loyalty—as a means of governing them through family obligations. 19
Government and Institutions
- Holy Emperor — The supreme sovereign and holder of the greatest share of national fortune. The emperor later became Yu Kingdom's first Celestial Realm ruler. 620 636
- Zhu Imperial Clan — The dynasty's ruling house, protected by the Imperial Guards. 172
- Imperial Court — Maintains strict rank, ritual, and palace-etiquette systems; only a small number of people may freely enter and leave the Imperial City. 334 629
- Thirty-two Garrisons — Military garrisons founded to pacify local forces and keep martial sects under imperial control. 103
- Imperial Astronomical Bureau — Originally responsible for celestial observation and the calendar; it later expanded to monitor demons, beasts, hidden sects, and mystic talent. 172
- Martial Evaluation Department — Conducts a Martial Evaluation of combatants across the world once every ten years. An ancestral rule forbids later emperors from influencing its results. 273
- Peacekeeper and Immortal Inspection — The Peacekeeper presides over the assessment, promotion, and demotion of immortal cultivators serving as officials, as well as the Immortal Rite. 486
- Nine Dragons Sealing Heaven Array — A national formation entrusted to Li Rui; it defended the capital against Myriad Laws Palace Celestial Realm experts and aided the Holy Emperor's tribulation. 627 629 636
Military
Yu Kingdom was founded on martial strength and continues to elevate military cultivation as a central qualification for command. Military officials generally advance in office after improving their martial realms. 19 173
- Annan Garrison — A southern military command that originally fielded twenty thousand troops and seventeen guards. 104
- Anning Guard — Established in Clear River to suppress the Ghost Underworld Sect and secure the region; its construction transformed Qinghe into a vastly expanded new city. 103 106 136
- Annan Garrison expansion — In response to Purple Gold Palace and southern-border threats, the court transferred the Jiannan and Huaidong forces into Annan Garrison and relocated the enlarged command to Clear River. 358
- Military merit system — Routine training can earn Small Merits; ten Small Merits become one Middle Merit, and ten Middle Merits become one Great Merit. 118
- Martial privileges — Upper Three Ranks martial artists are exempt from kneeling before the emperor, reflecting the court's need to accommodate powerful cultivators. 407
Foreign Relations
Witch Kingdom
Yu Kingdom and the Witch Kingdom were allied during the fall of the Profound Dynasty, but later had little contact after the Witch Kingdom closed its borders. 207
Yu Kingdom supported the Witch Kingdom's new ruler during a succession crisis. In return, the two states opened mutual trade, and a Witch Kingdom princess was married to Yu Kingdom's Sixth Prince. 207 319
- The first mutual trade was organized through Clear River's Trade Affairs Department. 217 224
- The alliance later included joint negotiations over the Qinghe spirit mine. 417
- Yu Kingdom dispatched a major embassy to the Witch Kingdom before military action against Eastern Wu, since bypassing the Witch Kingdom would have damaged its national fortune. 371
- The relationship remained unequal and tense: Yu Kingdom sought influence in the Southern Border, while Witch Kingdom officials feared becoming dependent on their northern neighbor. 255 374
White Jade Capital
Yu Kingdom gained White Jade Capital as a patron, stabilizing its position among immortal powers. 556 620
After Li Rui became a True Lord, White Jade Capital authorized him to establish a Lower Sect within Yu Kingdom and govern the Twelve Towers and Five Cities. 815
Human Emperor Hall
The Human Emperor Hall regulates the ranks of immortal dynasties. Yu Kingdom required its approval to become a second-rate and later a first-class Immortal Dynasty, and was required to share a portion of its fortune under that system. 636 820
Fenxin Immortal Dynasty
The First Class Fenxin Immortal Dynasty demanded that Yu Kingdom acknowledge its emperor as an elder brother and pay three thousand Tribute Money annually—half of Yu Kingdom's yearly fortune. 652
The demand escalated into war. Yu Kingdom's Holy Emperor later personally led the East Sea campaign against Fenxin forces, and Yu Kingdom subsequently incorporated substantial former Fenxin territory in Taihua Province. 822 843
Myriad Laws Palace
The Myriad Laws Palace attempted to exploit Yu Kingdom's imperial succession, backing First Prince Zhu Kang in exchange for allegiance and access to the Immortal Tomb in the Ten Thousand Mountains. 620
The plot failed when the Holy Emperor executed Zhu Kang and activated the Nine Dragons Sealing Heaven Array against the invading Celestial Realm experts. 627
National Development
Clear River and the Southern Border
The campaign against the Ghost Underworld Sect provided the pretext for Yu Kingdom to establish the Anning Guard in Clear River. The court's larger objective was to build a base for commerce with the Witch Kingdom. 103 207
Construction of the guard and new city expanded Qinghe more than fivefold, multiplied its population more than fourfold, and greatly increased tax revenue. 136
Immortal Dynasty
During the Immortal Rite, the Holy Emperor forged an immortal cauldron using national fortune after Li Rui dispersed external evils sent to disrupt the ceremony. This marked a major step toward establishing an immortal dynasty. 519
The Holy Emperor's Celestial Realm breakthrough, assisted by Li Rui and the Nine Dragons Sealing Heaven Array, secured Yu Kingdom's formal promotion to a Second-rate Immortal Dynasty. 636
Yu Kingdom later reached First Class Immortal Dynasty status, with its advancement attributed in large part to Evergreen True Monarch's standing and support. 820
Customs and Law
- Calendar — Yu Kingdom uses a lunisolar calendar established by the Imperial Astronomical Bureau. A standard year has twelve months, totaling 354 days; the first day of the year is called New Year's Day. 125
- Martial-world policy — The court seeks obedience and service from martial sects rather than indiscriminate extermination; officials must balance distance from sects with practical cooperation. 136
- Noble titles — The dynasty tightly restricts hereditary titles due to the precedent of feudal-prince rebellions in the previous dynasty. 275
- Imperially bestowed archways — Such honors range from Imperial Decree to Imperial Grace, Imperial Edict, and imperial authorization, with imperial authorization being the lowest grade. 105
Relationships
- Witch Kingdom — Allied trade partner and southern rival; relations were reinforced through a royal marriage alliance and cooperation against shared threats. 207 319 417
- White Jade Capital — Patron immortal sect; later established a Lower Sect within Yu Kingdom. 556 815
- Human Emperor Hall — Authority responsible for recognizing Yu Kingdom's advancement as an Immortal Dynasty. 636 820
- Fenxin Immortal Dynasty — Powerful hostile dynasty whose tribute demands led to war. 652 822
- Myriad Laws Palace — External hostile force that sought to turn Yu Kingdom into a dependent state through First Prince Zhu Kang. 620 627
- Ghost Underworld Sect — Long-standing outlawed cult targeted by the Imperial Court and used as the immediate justification for establishing the Anning Guard. 103 129
