Background / History
Meicun grew up within the Hyuga Clan and adopted its emphasis on strength. She married Leiyu Hyuga, a jonin with some standing in the clan. Three years before the opening events, he died during an A-rank mission in the Land of Lightning. Konoha paid her compensation, and the Hyuga Clan continued supporting his wife and child 1 5 6.
After Leiyu’s death, Meicun devoted herself to raising Tianyun and teaching him to become a ninja like his father. With a child under seven, she qualified for Konoha’s peacetime exemption from missions while retaining financial assistance. Personality
Meicun is hot-tempered and physically forceful in disciplining Tianyun. She strikes his head, pulls him home by the ear, and frequently threatens punishment. Her anger can turn quickly into affection or pride: when he expresses genuine ambition, she hugs and kisses him, and she rewards his reported victories with a lavish dinner 1 2 14.
Her strictness accompanies considerable anxiety about his welfare. On his first school day, she worries that classmates will bully him and struggles against the urge to check on him. She also questions whether learning ninjutsu so young could harm his development and considers returning to missions to finance his training 14 16.
Meicun strongly respects the Main Family and regards protecting it as the Branch Family’s duty. Nevertheless, she agrees to conceal Tianyun’s awakened Byakugan rather than risk his being taken away to serve as a Main Family guard.
