Meeting Tianyun Hyuga

Tenten belongs to a wealthy Konoha family that runs a ninja tool shop. When Tianyun enters the Academy’s Elite Class, he deliberately takes the seat beside her, hoping to establish a connection that will eventually earn him money. Tenten is interested in his strength rather than his appearance and tells him that he must become the strongest student before she will spend time with him 9.

After Tianyun defeats several classmates, Tenten points out that the others have not surrendered. His subsequent ultimatum sends most of the class fleeing. Worried about being blamed by Iruka, she briefly agrees to play with Tianyun, then leaves school herself. She refuses to let him follow her home and withdraws her invitation when he continues pestering her 10 11.

They meet again at Ichiraku Ramen, where she is collecting lunch for her busy parents. When Teuchi calls Tianyun her friend, Tenten corrects him: Tianyun is merely a new transfer student whom she hardly knows 12.

Free Martial-Arts Lessons

Tianyun waives Tenten’s five-hundred-thousand payment for Tai Chi instruction because he sees her as a future major customer. This improves her opinion of him enough that she asks whether teaching the style to outsiders might get him punished by the Hyuga Clan. Embarrassed by his teasing and her classmates’ attention, she insists on paying the additional tuition, but he refuses that as well 18.

In the Academy’s training forest, Tianyun personally corrects her movements. Although the attention makes her shy, she values the opportunity to learn faster under his guidance. When Iruka summons Tianyun to the Hokage, however, she tells him she no longer needs his instruction and is going home 19 20.

Connecting the Weapon Business

Tenten’s attitude changes when Tianyun claims he can strengthen ninja tools. She gives him a specially made kunai, accompanies him to the training forest, and examines the weapon after his demonstration. Finding its sharpness and hardness doubled, she keeps it and promises him three specially made replacements 26.

She then takes Tianyun to her family’s shop and introduces him to Tiesheng. After teasing her father about the kunai’s origin, she explains that Tianyun enhanced an existing weapon rather than forging a new one. She objects when Tianyun demands payment for another demonstration, but Tiesheng stops her from interfering. Tenten retreats to her room while the two negotiate an equal-profit partnership 27.

Tiesheng subsequently insists that she return to school with Tianyun. She becomes the messenger between them, carrying money and ninja tool sealing scrolls to the Academy each day. Her deliveries help the Anbu observer Black Wind connect Tianyun to the shop’s unusually powerful weapons 28 32.

Temporary Teaching Assistant

After the Elite Class is disbanded, Tenten and its six other remaining students must spend a year as temporary teaching assistants before graduating. She resents the delay and blames Tianyun for the class’s dissolution 44.

Ordered by the Hokage to welcome new students, she grabs Tianyun and asks him to stay so she can avoid the task. Naruto’s question about whether she will become his sister-in-law embarrasses her into letting go. She then declares that she will welcome only the girls and that the boys can enter on their own 44.

Personality

Tenten is proud, blunt, and difficult to impress with empty boasting. She demands proof of Tianyun’s strength, challenges his excuses for causing trouble, and repeatedly tells him to stop following or bothering her. She also recognizes that his persistent attention does not reflect genuine romantic interest 9 10 11 26.

She is eager to improve and enthusiastic about exceptional weapons. Embarrassment does not stop her from accepting useful martial-arts coaching, and the enhanced kunai excites her enough to bring Tianyun home immediately. She takes pride in her family’s craftsmanship and enjoys teasing her father before explaining the weapon’s improvement 19 26 27.
