• A server boy declared that pirates deserved to die, and a young man in a black trench coat broke a pirate's wrist and drove several pirates away.

• Klein found Adelaide dead with her blood drained and learned from Aldrich that she had been discovered by Olivia.

• Ludwell discovered that the supposed ruins of the ancient Grim Reaper were fake and sent his undead to slaughter the pirates around the Black Tulip.
• Edward attacked Ludwell with Fiendfyre and repeated spells, but Ludwell used the Death God's Ring to summon the Bronze Gate and overwhelm him with undead.
• Edward summoned Phoenix, which dispersed the undead and returned Ludwell's Death God's Ring to him.

The chapter ended with Kottman pinning Kalvetua to a wall with a lightning arrow after the sea serpent destroyed the invading feathers.

• Edward learned that Phoenix could track the Elven Ruins by following the feathers’ lingering aura, but his attacks could not break the bone wall around the altar.
• Kalvetua tried to withdraw from the sacrificial gate and resist the feathers, but Jahn Kottman maintained the gate and intensified his attacks.
