Chapters 254–279 Vol. 3 Read

Ch. 254Hancock's wager

Granny Nyon sought outside help to negotiate for Boa Hancock, who accepted Karn’s coercive game in exchange for the photographs proving her past as a slave. Meanwhile, the Marines decided to execute Ace and prepare for war against Whitebeard.

  • After learning that Hancock and the Kuja Pirates had been defeated, Granny Nyon ordered Amazon Lily’s remaining treasure and warriors prepared for a voyage to Alabasta, and sent a letter to Sabaody for help.
  • Hancock stayed in her cell, too afraid that the photographs of her slave mark would expose her past, and Karn offered her a chance to win them back through the Women’s Further Education Course.
  • Hancock accepted Karn’s game, and he warned her that he would kill ten Kuja Pirates if she hurt anyone in his company.
  • Granny Nyon secured Shakuyaku and Rayleigh’s help to reach Alabasta, since the kingdom’s ship had been destroyed and they needed the Swimming Serpents to cross the Calm Belt.
  • Marine Headquarters decided to execute Ace after Blackbeard exchanged him for a Shichibukai position, and began arranging a campaign against the Whitebeard Pirates.

Ch. 255The Shichibukai assemble

Karn released Hancock and the Kuja Pirates after accepting compensation from Amazon Lily, then received a Marine summons to attend a Shichibukai meeting at Marineford. On Sabaody Archipelago, Wiper learned that Eustass Kid had the highest bounty among the gathered Supernovas and prepared to confront him.

  • Granny Nyon paid Karn more than thirteen billion Beli in compensation, and Karn agreed to release Hancock and the other Kuja Pirates.
  • Karn returned Hancock’s photographs and let her leave, while she struggled with her growing reluctance to kill him and concealed the belt made from nanoparticles.
  • Captain Hina delivered the Marine summons, and Karn agreed to travel to Marineford in a few days.
  • At the Karn Chamber of Commerce’s Sabaody branch, Wiper’s group learned that several Supernovas had gathered on the islands.
  • After hearing that Eustass Kid had a bounty of 315 million Beli and had killed many civilians, Wiper ordered Raki and Braham to prepare to move.

Ch. 256Supernovas

Wiper and the Shandia warriors attacked Eustass Kid in Sabaody, blowing up a bar before confronting him to capture him alive. At Marine Headquarters, Karn and the other Shichibukai were briefed on a major war operation, and Hancock secretly let Karn into her room afterward.

  • Wiper and the Shandia warriors entered a bar on tree No. 21 looking for Kid, then Wiper threw a bomb inside.
  • The bomb destroyed the bar and killed many pirates, but Kid survived and faced Wiper, who said he planned to capture him alive.
  • Sengoku and Tsuru briefed Karn and the other Shichibukai on a major Marine operation, while Hancock struggled to conceal her reaction to a hidden device.
  • Karn and Moria argued over who would claim the corpses after the war, and Sengoku stopped them from fighting.
  • Hancock returned to her room, felt the device vibrate again, and opened the door to let Karn inside.

Ch. 257The World Government's Targeting

Sengoku faced pressure from the Five Elders to punish Mage Karn’s subordinates for insulting the Celestial Dragons, while Karn backed the Shandia and pursued a rare Woods-Woods Fruit user. The chapter ended with Robin showing Wiper and the others the Chamber of Commerce’s powerful final-tier supplies for Sky Island to consider.

  • Kizaru reported that Karn’s subordinates had helped stop the Supernovas at Sabaody, and Sengoku ended the call without agreeing to arrest them.
  • The Five Elders ordered Sengoku to make Karn hand over the subordinates who insulted the Celestial Dragons, but Sengoku refused to risk turning Karn against the Marines.
  • Karn praised Wiper’s group for capturing Eustass Kid and Scratchmen Apoo, and authorized Robin to offer the Shandia the Chamber of Commerce’s final tier of supplies.
  • Robin told Karn that the intelligence department had tracked down Aramaki, a rare Woods-Woods Fruit user, and Karn ordered her to negotiate for his ability before resorting to force.
  • Robin reassured the injured Shandia that Karn would protect them, then gave them a list of powerful supplies and enhancements to discuss with their leaders.

Ch. 258CP9

After Marine Headquarters announced Ace’s public execution, Whitebeard’s forces sailed for Marineford while Sengoku prepared for war. Back in Rainbase City, Karn exposed three infiltrators as CP9 agents and captured them, planning to use them later.

  • Cobra offered Alabasta’s troops to help Karn, while Vivi regretted not staying with him after learning Ace would be executed.
  • Whitebeard rejected Marco’s suggestion to ally with the Beasts Pirates and ordered his fleet to sail for Marineford to rescue Ace.
  • Sengoku mobilized Marine forces, installed P-3 Grenade Launchers, and monitored the Big Mom and Beasts Pirates as Marineford prepared for battle.
  • Karn returned to Rainbase City, extracted Kid’s and Apoo’s Devil Fruit abilities, then killed them so he could claim their bounties after the war.
  • Nico Robin brought Rob Lucci, Kaku, and Jabra to meet Karn, and Karn recognized them as CP9 agents.
  • Rob Lucci, Kaku, and Jabra attacked Nico Robin, but Karn bound and incapacitated them with lightning before ordering them locked up.

Ch. 259The decisive battle began

Karn retaliated against the World Government for targeting Nico Robin and prepared to use the Paramount War to display his strength and harvest valuable resources. As Ace’s execution approached, Sengoku revealed Ace’s parentage, and the Whitebeard Pirates launched their attack on Marineford.

  • Karn ordered Rob Lucci and two other CP9 agents killed and displayed at Rainbase, planned a powerful bomb for Mary Geoise, and left Robin in command of expanded defenses.
  • Karn returned to Marineford as the Marines completed preparations for Ace’s execution, while Sengoku’s forces failed to locate Whitebeard’s fleet.
  • Sengoku announced that Ace was Pirate King Roger’s son, and Karn told Hancock that the Marines had already lost to Roger by making Ace’s birth the charge for his execution.
  • Whitebeard’s pirate ships appeared outside Marineford, and then the Moby Dick surfaced inside the bay with Whitebeard at its bow, calling out to Ace.

Ch. 260The Paramount War, Part One

Whitebeard began the Marineford war by unleashing a tsunami, while Karn and the Marines attacked and fought back. After Whitebeard recovered his strength with Restoration Potions, Luffy arrived to save Ace, and Karn struck at his warship with lightning.

  • Whitebeard shattered the sea and sent tsunamis toward Marineford, but Aokiji froze them and immobilized the Moby Dick in the bay.
  • Karn unleashed a 200 Million Volts: Raigo at the Moby Dick, and Whitebeard shattered the lightning with an Air Quake punch, injuring Marines with the scattered bolts.
  • Hawkeye attacked Whitebeard, Jozu blocked the slash, and fighting broke out as Whitebeard intercepted the Marines' bombardment until he destroyed their battery walls.
  • Whitebeard injected five Restoration Potions, regained his vigor, and challenged Sengoku to continue the battle.
  • Luffy's warship entered the bay as he shouted that he had come to save Ace, and Karn attacked it with an 80 Million Volts: Raigo.

Ch. 261Kaido of the Beasts Appears

Karn killed Oars and took his corpse as Whitebeard's forces pushed toward Ace, while the battle at Marineford intensified. The chapter ended with Kaido arriving and attacking the battlefield, prompting Sengoku to order the Marines to stop the war from being broadcast.

  • Luffy arrived at Marineford with Jinbe, Ivankov, and Buggy, but Karn blasted their warship apart with Raigo, killing many of the Impel Down escapees.
  • Karn held back as the fighting escalated, while Whitebeard used a Restoration Potion and unleashed an Air Quake that Aokiji and Kizaru blocked together.
  • Oars charged toward the execution platform to rescue Ace, but Karn pierced his heart with a lightning spear and took his corpse away.
  • Karn returned to the battlefield and decided to wait until Whitebeard died before acting again.
  • Kaido arrived in the form of an enormous azure dragon and attacked Marineford, so Sengoku ordered the Marines to cut off the Image Den Den Mushi; one stolen by the Impel Down prisoners remained active.

Ch. 262So you're Kaido?

Kaido arrived at Marineford and attacked both Marines and Whitebeard’s forces, while Jack led the Beasts Pirates against the Marine fleet. After Kaido demanded to find the arms dealer, Karn crippled Doflamingo and then blasted Kaido far out to sea, where the explosion raised a massive tsunami threatening Marineford.

  • Kaido attacked the battlefield indiscriminately, while Jack ordered the Beasts Pirates’ ships to engage the Marine warships and Momousagi went to confront him.
  • Sengoku ordered missiles against Kaido, and Kizaru struck him from above, knocking him out of his dragon form.
  • Kaido demanded that Jack find the arms-dealing Shichibukai, prompting Karn to seize Doflamingo and burn away his severed limbs.
  • Kaido revealed that Doflamingo supplied weapons to the Beasts Pirates, then charged Karn with his spiked club.
  • Karn struck Kaido with a massive Tailed Beast Bomb, driving him more than ten kilometers out to sea before it exploded and created a tsunami.
  • Sengoku called for Kuzan to stop the tsunami threatening Marineford.

Ch. 263World's Strongest

Karn unleashed a colossal Tailed Beast Bomb at Kaido, devastating Marineford and leaving Kaido gravely wounded while the world learned of Karn’s overwhelming power. Sengoku ordered Ace executed immediately, but Luffy and Whitebeard renewed the rescue effort as the battle resumed.

  • Karn lifted Buggy onto an ice pillar, made him hold up the Image Den Den Mushi, and formed a massive Tailed Beast Bomb above Marineford.
  • Karn hurled the Tailed Beast Bomb at Kaido, and Aokiji repeatedly raised icebergs to protect Marineford from the blast and resulting tsunami.
  • The explosion flattened the Marine Headquarters building and nearby town, while Kaido survived but was gravely wounded.
  • Whitebeard dispersed the storm clouds, and Sengoku recognized that Karn’s power had become known throughout the world.
  • Sengoku ordered Ace executed, but Luffy knocked out the executioners with his Conqueror’s Haki, and Whitebeard ordered his crew to rescue Ace and go home.

Ch. 264The war ended

After the war at Marineford ended, Karn collected Whitebeard’s corpse and refused Shanks’s request to return it, while the Red Hair Pirates brokered a ceasefire. Karn then attacked Jack the Drought’s ship, leaving Shanks convinced that a major upheaval was coming to the New World.

  • Karn recovered Kaido from the seabed, restrained him with Seastone chains, and stored him in the Pet Bag to harvest his blood and lineage factor.
  • At Marineford, Luffy rescued Ace, but Akainu killed Ace and Whitebeard died after fighting the Marines.
  • Karn appeared beside Whitebeard’s body and stored it, then warned the Whitebeard Pirates not to challenge him.
  • Red-Haired Shanks stopped Akainu from killing Koby and persuaded Sengoku to end the fighting.
  • Karn refused Shanks’s request for Whitebeard’s body unless Shanks paid him fifty Devil Fruits.
  • Karn struck Jack the Drought’s pirate ship with Raigo and flew toward Jack after the ship sank.

Ch. 265The World Government Comes Under Attack

After the Paramount War, Karn planned to move the Karn Chamber of Commerce’s headquarters to the New World and claim territory left vulnerable by the defeat of the Whitebeard and Beasts Pirates. Meanwhile, the Navy learned that Impel Down had suffered a mass escape and that the World Government’s Holy Land Mary Geoise had been attacked.

  • Karn imprisoned Kaido and Jack in Rainbase City, then assigned a shadow clone to extract Whitebeard’s Devil Fruit ability serum.
  • Karn told Nico Robin and the others that the Karn Chamber of Commerce would pursue territory in the New World, while Wiper and his group prepared to scout ahead.
  • Nico Robin identified Sinaan Island as a possible new headquarters, and Karn told Vivi that the Chamber of Commerce would leave Alabasta because the World Government’s actions put it at risk.
  • Wiper and the others departed aboard a flying ship, while Nico Robin began arranging the move and Karn planned to withdraw from the Shichibukai and end the Navy arms trade.
  • Sengoku learned that Shiryu had joined Blackbeard, injured Magellan, and helped prisoners escape from Impel Down’s Infinite Hell.
  • A Navy captain reported an explosive attack on Mary Geoise and lost contact with the World Government, so Sengoku ordered Kuzan and Borsalino to provide support.

Ch. 266Hancock's decision

After the World Government learned that a Karn Chamber of Commerce impostor had bombed its headquarters, Sengoku left in anger and reconsidered the Marines’ plans. Back in Amazon Lily, Hancock revealed a decision that shocked Granny Nyon: she wanted to ally with the Karn Chamber of Commerce.

  • Pirates looted Whitebeard’s former territories while the World Government’s destruction boosted the Revolutionary Army’s reputation.
  • The Four Elders told Kong, Sengoku, and others that Rob Lucci had delivered the bomb, prompting Sengoku to accuse CP0 of undermining the Marines’ war plans.
  • Sith Bartin reported that the real Rob Lucci had been executed by the Karn Chamber of Commerce four days earlier, revealing that the attacker had been an impostor.
  • Sengoku warned the Elders against targeting Mage Karn, left with Kuzan and Borsalino, and decided to adjust the Marines’ plans.
  • Granny Nyon asked Hancock what had been troubling her, and Hancock’s proposed alliance with the Karn Chamber of Commerce shocked her.

Ch. 267The situation in the New World

Hancock chose to pursue cooperation with the Karn Chamber of Commerce as the New World grew more unstable, while the Marines and Alabasta prepared for the consequences of Karn’s move. The chapter ended with Karn’s forces claiming islands once protected by Whitebeard and continuing their campaign against pirates.

  • Hancock rejected Granny Nyon’s offer to negotiate and decided to speak with the Karn Chamber of Commerce herself.
  • Sengoku learned that Magician had withdrawn from the Shichibukai and stopped arms sales to the Marines, then ordered preparations to manufacture Karn’s weapons.
  • Cobra and Igaram reluctantly agreed to let Vivi travel to the New World, while Alabasta relied on its remaining Karn branch and newly supplied weapons.
  • The Red Eye Pirates seized a former Whitebeard island and demanded heavy tribute from its towns.
  • Valentine killed Red Eye, and Miss Doublefinger and Mantis placed the island under Karn’s protection before heading to their next target.

Ch. 268Alliances on multiple fronts

King Neptune chose the Karn Chamber of Commerce over the Big Mom Pirates to protect Fish-Man Island, while Hancock traveled to Alabasta to negotiate an alliance with Karn. Karn proposed relocating Amazon Lily to the New World and showed Hancock a plan for expanding their shared territory.

  • King Neptune and his ministers agreed to seek protection from the Karn Chamber of Commerce rather than the Big Mom Pirates.
  • Hancock arrived in Alabasta with the Kuja Pirates and traveled by Maglev Train to Rainbase City.

Ch. 269Amazon's Relocation

Hancock returned to Amazon Lily with an alliance agreement that would relocate the kingdom to the New World, and its leaders accepted the deal’s promised territory, ships, and weapons. Meanwhile, Blackbeard set out to build his power in the New World, while Big Mom’s crew reconsidered provoking Karn after his strength became clear.

  • Hancock told Marigold, Gandamaru, Granny Nyon, and the Kuja Warriors that Amazon Lily would ally with Karn and move to the New World.
  • Granny Nyon and the others read the agreement and accepted its offer of at least twenty-one islands and advanced ships and weapons.
  • Hancock ordered preparations for the relocation and planned to leave the Shichibukai once Amazon Lily reached the New World.
  • Blackbeard learned of Karn’s actions and ordered his crew to head to the New World, recruit more power, and seek suitable Devil Fruits.
  • Big Mom’s children stopped her from attacking Fish-Man Island, and she ordered them to gather information on Karn while they planned to negotiate for desserts.

Ch. 270The Turbulent Sea

Karn strengthened his forces and expanded the Karn Chamber of Commerce’s reach after defeating the Beasts Pirates and making Wano Country a vassal. He left Wano after installing Kozuki Hiyori as daimyo, while Nico Robin stayed to help secure her rule, and the chapter ended with Karn preparing to pursue Aramaki.

  • Karn developed underwater, Azure Dragon, and Mammoth serums, then used the Azure Dragon serum to enhance Wiper and the Shandia warriors.

Ch. 271An astonishing haul

After returning to the Marvel Universe, Karn reviewed his One Piece World haul, set plans for several Devil Fruit abilities, and began investigating the Time-Turner and his other collected knowledge. Meanwhile, Betty expanded Umbrella’s operations, and Tony Stark received intelligence about Kane Penter and the Wizarding World as S.H.I.E.L.D. continued searching for spies.

  • Karn returned to Karn Manor with dozens of Devil Fruit ability serums and planned to give the Woods-Woods Fruit to Tsunade, the Tremor-Tremor Fruit to Kushina, and the Snow-Snow Fruit to Nonō.
  • Karn confirmed that his Azure Dragon ability had reached the limit his body could safely handle, then went to study the Time-Turner and the Legendary Wizard’s legacy.
  • Betty learned that Karn had returned, spoke warmly about their relationship, and continued overseeing Umbrella’s expanding military security contracts.
  • Phil Coulson gave Tony Stark intelligence that Kane Penter had mentioned the Wizarding World, and Tony agreed to investigate it with Banner and T’Challa.
  • Tony decided to have Pepper monitor Stark Industries while he supported the Avengers, as Nick Fury kept S.H.I.E.L.D. investigators unaware of the suspected spies inside the organization.

Ch. 272Pepper's capture

Pepper Potts broke into Stark Industries to investigate its weapons division, but Karn caught her and arranged for her arrest. As Tony Stark and the Avengers considered how to free her, Nick Fury revealed that he had secured help from a mysterious superpowered woman.

  • Pepper Potts used Tony Stark's spoofing hard drive to access Stark Industries' network and discovered files on new-energy mechanical guards.

Ch. 274The Idea for a Magic Academy

Nick Fury organized efforts to find a way to reach Pepper Potts while warning Tony Stark not to act alone. Meanwhile, Kane decided to establish a magic school for orphans and went to seek The Ancient One’s help, leaving Betty to begin organizing it.

  • Nick Fury told Tony Stark to contact lawyers about seeing Pepper Potts while he investigated the military, and warned Stark to coordinate with Coulson instead of acting alone.
  • Kane concluded that spreading magic might let him influence time and decided to cultivate young orphans as wizards rather than wait for natural-born magic to emerge.
  • Kane planned an orphanage and magic school, then headed to the New York Sanctum to meet The Ancient One and consult Kamar-Taj’s library.
  • Betty assigned Sharon Nia to organize the school, set a four-month target for classes to begin, and asked Laura to recruit two more assistants.

Ch. 275Trap

Karn learned about the Vishanti’s magic from the Ancient One and left Kamar-Taj with books to study. Meanwhile, Sharon Carter and Simmons infiltrated Karn Manor, where Karn exposed their identities and confronted them alongside the giant snake Aoda.

  • Karn discussed magic with the Ancient One, traded alchemical items and magical insights for books, and departed Kamar-Taj using Apparition.
  • The Ancient One told Mordo that Kamar-Taj could not practice Karn’s magic, though his alchemy might help sorcerers bear magic’s price.
  • Coulson sent Simmons and Sharon Carter to investigate Karn Manor while Karn was away at a Pent Group board meeting.
  • Sharon Carter and Simmons discovered the manor’s hidden grounds and entered its largest villa, where the giant snake Aoda appeared and asked Karn if he could eat them.
  • Karn revealed that he had blocked their signals, identified Sharon as a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, and used magic to strip both women of their equipment.
  • Aoda entered the villa and addressed Karn as his master.

Ch. 276The Fall of the Female Agents

Kane captured S.H.I.E.L.D. agents Sharon Carter and Simmons, coerced them into accepting his sexual demands, and sent them away with intelligence exposing Hydra’s leaders. Nick Fury ordered S.H.I.E.L.D. missions sealed while Kane prepared to travel to the Shinobi World.

  • Kane read Sharon Carter’s memories, learned about S.H.I.E.L.D.’s deployment, and threatened to feed her and Simmons to Aoda unless they went upstairs with him.
  • Coulson lost contact with Sharon Carter and Simmons, then heard their cries over the restored communicators and sent agents to Karn Manor, but the agents were arrested and transferred to the military.
  • Sharon Carter and Simmons left Karn Manor hours later with a hard drive of intelligence, and Sharon reported what had happened to Coulson and Nick Fury.
  • Nick Fury discovered that Councilman Malick, Alexander Pierce, and other senior figures belonged to Hydra, then ordered S.H.I.E.L.D. missions sealed and gave Captain America temporary Level 8 clearance.
