Appearance
- Build and face: Short and baby-faced; described as young 10 11.
- Headwear: Wears a yellowish-brown hat of the same style as Ponzu’s 10 13.
Personality
Pokkle is ambitious and eager to earn recognition through discoveries and successful investigations. He initially treats the Chimera Ant outbreak as an opportunity to gather valuable information or locate an unknown species’ nest, trusting his own judgment more than Joey’s warnings. Later, comparing himself with Gon and Killua strengthens his determination to improve 11 25.
His ambition does not entirely override his responsibility toward his companions. As his squad’s only licensed Hunter and Nen user, he decides to withdraw if the other teams remain unreachable rather than expose his less capable teammates to further danger. In combat, he protects Ponzu and adapts quickly to an enemy’s weaknesses 13 14 15.
Pokkle is observant but harsh in his judgments. He tests Joey’s reactions, investigates his background, and interprets his unusual recovery as evidence of a hidden treasure. Convinced that Joey is a wanted murderer and narcotics trafficker, he considers capturing him for a bounty and killing him if he abandons Kite’s assignment. Kite later describes Pokkle as overly eager for quick results, but not stupid 12 25 45.
Abilities & Skills
Seven-Colored Bow
Pokkle forms a bow and arrows from Nen through an archery stance, without a physical weapon. Different colors produce different effects; three are described in the supplied chapters 12 15 22.
| Arrow / Bow | Effect | Applications and limits |
|---|---|---|
| Orange Bow | Speed-focused arrows; his fastest option 15. | Fires a rapid barrage during the forest ambush, with arrows described as faster than bullets. Less powerful than Red Bow 14 15. |
| Red Bow | Changes his aura’s properties to fire, increasing destructive power 15. | His most powerful arrow. Pierces the crocodile Squadron Leader’s left eye and leaves a charred hole through its head 15. |
| Black Bow | Produces a toxin that briefly confuses all five senses 15. | Comparatively slow. When shattered, the arrow becomes poisonous mist; contact with an open wound allows the toxin to spread inside the target. The poison is not inherently lethal 15. |
- Ranged interception: Seven-Colored Bow is suitable for attacking approaching Chimera Ants before they reach the group 22.
- Combination attack: Uses Black Bow to disorient the wounded crocodile, then targets its eye with Red Bow after observing that rifle fire cannot penetrate it deeply enough 15.
- Limits: The crocodile catches and crushes one of his arrows. Even his apparent killing blow fails to stop its body from rising under dark Nen 14 15.
Nen Perception
Pokkle has mastered Nen, though his knowledge remains limited compared with that of a veteran Hunter 12.
- Sees Killer Queen and its detached chariot while aura surrounds his eyes 10.
- Uses an archery gesture to test whether Joey can perceive Nen, judging his reaction to the otherwise invisible bow 12.
- Detects aura distinct from Joey’s when a corner of Joey’s cloth bundle is briefly exposed 25.
Investigation and Leadership
- Information gathering: Quietly questions villagers about Yoshikage Kira after noticing the unusual entity beside him. Ponzu considers gathering information one of Pokkle’s strengths 12 25.
- Deduction: Recognizes inconsistencies between Joey’s apparent lack of Nen training, his control of Killer Queen, and his ability to see Nen 12.
- Field investigation: Collects Chimera Ant remains as evidence and accepts a phone to document the battlefield 11.
- Squad management: Selects a concealed campsite, organizes night watches, coordinates Ponzu’s communications, and establishes conditions for retreat 13 14.
History
Investigation in NGL
Pokkle enters NGL with Ponzu and two amateur Hunter companions. He is the squad’s only licensed Hunter and the only member who has mastered Nen. Before meeting Joey in the forest, he notices Killer Queen beside Yoshikage Kira in a village and quietly investigates Kira’s background 12 13.
A red arrow strikes the Chimera Ant pursuing Joey shortly before Pokkle’s group arrives. Pokkle recognizes Joey as Yoshikage Kira, tests his responses, and requests information about the attack on the village and a nearby drug plantation 9 10.
Despite Joey’s recommendation to leave NGL, Pokkle initially favors gathering more information and contacting other investigation teams. When Ponzu cannot reach the other squads for two hours, he chooses to hide overnight and return to the checkpoint if communications have not resumed by morning 11 13.
Forest Ambush and Rescue
Ponzu’s bees locate a distress signal, prompting Pokkle to lead the squad toward another team’s last known position. They find mutilated bodies and follow evidence of possible survivors, only to be ambushed. Both amateur Hunter companions are killed 14.
Pokkle and Joey fight a crocodile-like Squadron Leader. Joey’s explosions open wounds that allow Pokkle’s Black Bow poison to take effect; Pokkle then fires Red Bow through its eye. When the apparently dead creature rises under pitch-black Nen, he grabs Ponzu and flees 15.
Kite rescues Pokkle and Ponzu, and they subsequently reunite with Joey in a devastated village. Pokkle introduces Joey to Kite as Yoshikage Kira, an NGL resident and member of Zaiyilo’s Narcotics Organization. He later helps guard the party during its horseback journey toward the border 18 19 22.
Plans to Pursue Joey
After Joey departs with Kite, Gon, and Killua, Pokkle tells Ponzu that he suspects Joey possesses a stamina-restoring treasure. His evidence includes Joey’s rapid recovery, his protectiveness toward his bundle, and the unfamiliar aura Pokkle briefly sensed inside it 25.
Pokkle proposes remaining in NGL to train, gather information, and earn credit. He intends to leave Joey alone if he completes Kite’s task, but intercept and kill him if he flees. Ponzu refuses to stay, arguing that the danger outweighs the possible bounty or treasure and urging them both to leave 25.
Identity Leak and Kakin Connections
Pokkle eventually leaves NGL. Andrei identifies him as the source of the leak exposing Joey’s identity as the Murderer and his suspected recovery treasure, drawing the attention of Bounty Hunters and Crime Hunters 38.
Biscuit criticizes Pokkle’s resulting notoriety, while Kite suspects that someone has exploited him for his valuable firsthand information about NGL. This remains a suspicion rather than a confirmed explanation 45.
Andrei later reports that Pokkle is still connected to the Hunters targeting Joey, has run into trouble, and has become involved with people from Kakin. The investigation into Joey’s pursuers also reveals Yoshikage Kira’s past connections with Kakin’s Fourth Prince, Tserriednich 50.
Relationships
- Ponzu — Teammate and close companion, presented by Joey as another man’s girlfriend. Pokkle relies on her bees for communication, reconnaissance, and tracking; she refuses his request to remain in NGL and pursue Joey 13 25.
- Joey / Yoshikage Kira — Temporary ally and subject of investigation who becomes a prospective bounty target. Their cooperation against the Chimera Ants gives way to mutual distrust, and Pokkle later leaks Joey’s identity 10 12 15 25 38.
- Kite — Rescues Pokkle and Ponzu and escorts them toward the border. Pokkle warns him about Joey’s criminal affiliation; Kite later argues that Pokkle may have been manipulated 18 19 25 45.
- Gon and Killua — Their rapid improvement motivates Pokkle to seek further training in NGL. Pokkle shares a horse with Gon while guarding the departing group 22 25.
- Two amateur Hunter teammates — Serve under Pokkle during the investigation; both are killed in the forest ambush 13 14.
Divergence from Joey’s Recollections
- In the original events Joey remembers, Pokkle is captured, and Neferpitou obtains knowledge of Nen from his brain. Joey therefore considers saving him a way to delay the Chimera Ants’ understanding of Nen 5 13.
- Pokkle survives this version of the encounter. Joey later identifies saving him as one of the interventions that significantly changed the Chimera Ant incident 38 44.
- Joey recognizes that this cannot guarantee a lasting delay: other Nen-using Hunters in NGL could still be captured 23 25.
